Square just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about console gaming culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in pc gaming where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in consoles, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the console gamers, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase FFXIII for any system, nor will they purchase any of Square's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Square has alienated an entire market with this move.

Square, publicly apologize and cancel FFXIII for steam or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Look ma, I posted it again!

I like Trails in the Sky much better than Final Fantasy XIII, too. I think it's much better.

But it's still nice to have more Japanese RPGs on Steam.

Hah I borrowed 13 from a friend and thought it had potential; I assumed the bad writing was a localization issue.
So I imported it, to find out that the localization was actually pretty much spot on.

Here's hoping they give us Japanese options though, that'd definitely make me buy it to support that.

I imagine it shouldn't be too hard to "undub" the ofiicial steam versions and get japanese
audio with english text. Better yet, I hope someone gets around to subbing the game
to actually match the japanese script because there are differences.

English localization made the dialogue needlessly hammy and obtuse. Especially when
it came to Etro.

I know, I loved XII--breath of fresh air. It was actually felt more fantasy-oriented since it took place in the world of Ivalice. Loved the bazaar town early on, the environment designs, and the multitude of different races. I had a lot of fun with it.

I did not, however, like XIII. I... just felt it was so tedious and the battle system--for me--was anything but fun.

Nothing about your post i disagree with(outside of thinking the battle system was decent)

I just wanted to say great Blue Sub avatar :P

I Believe SE is in a situation that for FFXV to make any money after so many years in development, it has to come to other platforms. This points in that direction, if true.

Even if it is true, is it reasonable to expect any improvements beyond 1080p and 60 FPS? I would have expected something barebones tbh.

Lmao. holy fuck. dying here.

Was any of the games in the trilogy what could be called good?
The whole trilogy is a depressing blight on the Final Fantasy franchise. If these actually do come out, I would keep far, far away and only pick them up during a Steam sale for $0.00.

day 1 on steam. I actually liked FF13, and I never played the others

also that rant about console betrayal, if real, is easily...EASILY my favorite post on Gaf in months, if not of all time

On one hand, this kind of irks me since I'm almost done with FFXIII-2 (not counting the DLC, which I don't have).

On the other hand, LR on PC with actually decent engine performance is a godsend. I still have no idea how this guy pulled off all this crazy shit on the 360 version.

Will buy

Ooh speaking of DLC - I wonder if the DLC comes separate or it will come with the game itself - either ways if FFXIII-2 (and LR I'm not sure if it has DLC....) does come out - I'll get the DLC this time since I passed on it on the PS3 ver.

But having one good one means we shouldn't have another that isn't quite as good... Didn't you know that?

It's an edit of the original "Square just shot themselves in the foot..." meme/GAF joke, bro.

You're missing the point as to why people are excited for FFXIII on PC. its not because they are the greatest games ever made its because it opened the possibility of future FFs to come to the PC.

Because Xbox one and PS4 are close to PC's i'd expect pretty much every third party not nailed down for some reason to be on PC as well. Its just a fact of life, especially considering how FF has a history in PC too.

I wonder if they will make the pre-rendered scenes realtime now?

The PS3 pre-rendered cutscenes are already there, why would they make them real time for a port? There are hundreds of fake realtime cutscenes in this game, they aren't going to go back and redo them. The whole point of TLOU not doing that was because the game is designed especially to play a video at that time, you'd have to actually redo major parts of the game to make them real time.

13-2 is the best one.

That's not saying much at all though, but it does capitalize on some of the more nuanced aspects of the combat system from 13. It's more open, it often feels like an actual RPG instead an assortment of pretty corridors. But, again, the cast and the plot and the way it fits into 13 and 13-3 is all implemented abysmally. So if you're like me where a bad story can submarine your playing experience, you're not going to get much out of it.

Fuck, you want a great RPG with a shit story, go play Grandia 3. Still has the greatest combat system of any RPG, PERIOD.

Skip all cutscenes, ignore all story. Follow those two steps and you've drastically improved the quality of the XIII series*.

*haven't played Lightning Returns but I'm pretty confident the advice still applies

Grandia 3's story is not bad! Its positively full of charm and heartwarming moments!

Lightning Returns feels like the perfect game to be MST3K'd.

Like seriously, I was cracking jokes all over that ending because of how stupid it was.

I'd actually really like someone like Super Best Friends to lampoon the cutscenes.

Nope probably not. Even the 60 fps might be pushing it. They may lock it to 30 fps, bump up the resolution and push it to steam
and i would buy it day one, im weak :(

Stop being tsundere and just accept you love me already.

In any case, I guess this is getting announced tonight/today at Tokyo Gameshow? There's no way Square would edit their entire site and leave it like this on the "Live"/public facing portals without it being announced sometime today (US) or Thursday (Friday for Japan).

I didn't miss that point at all, thats what 80% of people in this exact thread have been saying. I'm referring to the idea that one great JRPG on steam should be the last.

Good news, didn't like the first game but there were things I enjoyed like the combat system (despite it getting old towards second half), haven't played the sequels, I tried the demo but found the framerate to be a bit bad on the ps3, wouldn't mind giving them a try though.

Game would look cool as hell at higher resolution, it looked good enough at 720p, can't wait to take a shitload of pictures.

lets be honest here, SE knows how to make pc ports. they add all the bells and whistels on a PC game and theyre stories even told by the developers of sleeping dogs where SE asked them to make a good pc game with all the options. i can see this port being 1080p, 60fps with some nice added shit very easily. i have faith in SE
