I don't really need a tag, but I figured I'd get one to make people jealous. Is it working?
Kurt why you gotta always show me up. So rood. ;-;

I'm surprised you threw Dark Souls 2 and 3 on there and not 1. I thought a lot of people disliked 2. I should probably play Vampire the Masquerade, I think I own that. It's text heavy right? So like, doable with just a trackpad? I lost my mouse somewhere when I came back from vacation lol.

I'm not actually sure how well VTMB would play with a trackpad; It's got combat you can play in first person or third person. It's not great combat, and there's portions of it folks basically advocate skipping all together near the end, but it's there.

The fan patch is pretty much mandatory too.

edit: entirely unrelated but I didn't want to double post

I really want to post my list there but I'm not really creative with words.

So I guess I'll just PM a lazy list version instead to the OP.
I don't think you really need to post paragraphs to justify your choices (even though mine ended up that way because fuck if I know how to explain myself concisely). There are people there that just wrote a sentence for each game.

I'm only mentioning it because I'm just interested in what SteamGAF recommends for RPGs.

Damn it, there goes that idea. I really need to go find my mouse. Thanks for the heads up on the fan patch.

I doubt it's doable with a trackpad, but yeah, you don't NEED to fight all the time. And I really liked Dark Souls 2, probably even more than 1.

my points grouped according to platform:

Nintendo +11
Xbox +8
Sony +2
PC +12

I completed 11 of the 12 console RPGs I picked.
I've completed only a quarter of the PC games that I voted for.

I caved and got Stardew Valley for Steam. I was waiting for the Switch version but I'm done with that. Plus it has mods and I'll be playing it on my laptop anyways.

How does Pillars of Eternity compare to Divinity Original Sin? All the OS2 talk lately is really making me want to play the first one but it never got discounted into impulse purchase price range. All I have that's remotely similar is PoE and Wasteland 2.

One is real time with pause, the other is turn based.

Divinity is turned-based? Uh, I thought it was RTwP too. I'm fine with either, though. I mean more in the overall quality sense. Like, the PoE setting seems kinda like generic fantasy compared to the more colorful vibe I'm getting from Divinity. Which one has the better story?

PoE is story, story, story, terrible battle system.
DOS is battle system, battle system, battle system, terrible story.

That bad, uh? Sounds like PoE might be more up my alley then. I need a good story to keep me going in long RPGs. Thanks.

Actually, no, Divinity didn't have a terrible story, just that it wasn't it's main focus. The writing is charming and lovable, it doesn't take itself too seriously.

What a milestone

I have 2600 achievements and 30% complationrate, ugh seeing that makes me realise it going to take a really really long time until I get anywhere with my complationrate. T_T Or I have to play any game I start to 100% haha

Gotta let that which does not matter slide. Fun > completion rate any day. Try those games with abandon, and don't feel bad about 1% completion games when something doesn't take your fancy. It's far more rewarding and fun to try the games in your library without fear of self imposed consequences than to obsess about stats.

Hitman: The Full Experience 18.19€
Hitman: The Complete First Season + DLC 22.79€

So which of those two is the one to get?

You are right of course, BUT, feeling the little pressure of trying a game a bit longer after the initial "I don't want to" reaction to a game has made me find games that I really liked which I didn't at first. But if I really don't like a game I do give up on it even with 1% completion rate.

Both gives you everything if I am correct

Ah ok, I guess one of them is an older version. I'm thinking about taking the plunge into Hitman, used to love them back in the day but unsure if I have the patience for those kinds of games these days. But it seems so good!

I love TF2 so much, I mean, I used to, but then Valve shat on it.
It's still fun on the surface, but the magic is gone :(

Don't play it much now, but for me the best period of the game was when it was properly updated, with new game modes, changes to the classes, Meet the... videos, comics and all that. It was fun and exciting.

They might have gone slightly overboard now, but I'm glad that the game is so much more then it was at release.

Oh yeah, it was a hell of a time. The leadup time to the updates, new items and whatnot, fun times. It peaked with the Engie update for me I think - which means I still played hell of a lot after that, but nothing came close to the exciting times of the Medic update.

Knurek is "edgy reply at the cost of accuracy".

PoE has some great lore and world-building, good character stories, decent overall story and a good battle system.
D:OS has one of the best battle systems of all time, amazing freedom in your world interactions, and some nice humor.

Thanks for the clarifications. It still sounds like PoE might be more my thing if it has a bigger story focus but I'll probably still grab D:OS eventually. I would've probably been a little disappointed by it if I had gone in expecting a great, epic RPG story. So it's better that I know ahead of time not to expect one. I've looked at some videos and the combat system does look pretty great, though.

PoE story was much better than D:OS imo. I haven't played D:OS 2 yet, but I hear the story has been improved significantly, so that'd probably give PoE a run for its money now.

Sir, in one of those two games you can steal a chest from the tutorial area, spend the entire game filling it up with the heaviest garbage you can find, and then calmly drop it on a world destroying terror's face at the end of the game to squash it.

One of those games has a singing crab you can only listen to if you're versed in animal speak.

One of those game features several life lessons involving cheese and the social implications of owning a sufficient amount of said cheese.

The other game does not. Choose wisely.

Side note: Divinity: Original Sin 2 takes the bar and drop kicks it into orbit.

I still play a couple games a week or so. But nearly as much as the good old days. For me it isn't anything to do with the gameplay. TF2 is still a better game than almost any other shooters in the gameplay department, but my primary servers have long since shut down. It's enjoyable to play a few casual games with randoms, but nothing will ever replace the feeling of going to a server at the end of the day and knowing nearly every single player. Of course, this quality doesn't really exist in any games anymore now that everything is lobby driven. I'm still excited to see what changes they continue to make as the game approaches the decade old mark. It's crazy to think that there's more time between the release of Team Fortress Classic and TF2 than TF2 and today. Game has legs.

I would not expect anything really, Robin Walker is not even working on the game anymore :( It seems like it's in maintenance mode and now fully community driven.

lol that suicide simulator thread

Person A: - How can this shit be on Steam!!
Person B: - Well, here's actual arguments for why it is, and here's some reasonable arguments for what could happen if Steam curates more.
Person A: - OMG stop worshipping companies!
Person C: - Yeah, Steam is a mess!

Person A and B have also never used Steam.

I think the core of the problem is that the game shouldn't have been existed in the first place.

What's the point of the new Steam curation system that replaced Greenlight if this kind of games could still slip in to the store? Or was that actually unrelated?

Marvel vs Capcom really shows how bad Capcom is with dlcs.
Base game is 50€, the season pass is 30€.
30€ for six additional characters, and at least one of them from what I know, Black Panter, is already in the story mode of the game. Even the Monster Huntress, with her gameplay trailer, should be in the game already.
I mean, you pay 50€ for a "full game" and six characters cost just 20€ less than that.

I dont get the attitude in those (monthly) Steam shitting threads though. People are okay with Sony getting a cut of a game where you torture little girls in prison and they moan and get sexually aroused or shooting underage girls to get orgasms, but oh no. A suicide simulator or Isis simulator game that looks like ass? Valve gets money by that? Thats too far!!!

Yeah to me this is a different issue to the usual "get these shitty asset flips off Steam" complaint. The existence of a game calling itself Suicide Simulator crosses a line that makes me uncomfortable and worry that a vulnerable person would come across it.
