Seems Shan Gui didnt sell too well:

Shan Gui did not reach our expected sales, and the dub remaking may cost more than 5 thousand dollars to finish, so we've shelved this plan.

Too bad, since I liked it, but actually it was far too short (30-45 minutes) and just a kinetic VN, so there were no choices. But I would say the art, music and the dub was actually quite good.
I enjoyed it.

On 20th October though it will be 2,49$, so maybe that will help the sales.

I think you are heavily underestimating the amount of custom shit each dev does to their UE3 games that simply will not port over with couple clicks of a button.
Yes, they could do it but it means extra work.
So they won't because some devs actually want to ship games in a reasonable time-frame.

Unless you prefer everyone delays their games even more.

They could have used UE4 from scratch if they wanted.Any extra stuff needs more time and efforts even withing the same engine. Why go even further, with each new update UE4 brings new stuff that devs need to incorporate the newly added features. 4.5 brings new subsurface skin shading and can get you results like the video showed by jimenez: http://n4g.com/news/1218722/new-beginning-for-call-of-duty-activision-revealed-next-gen-visuals

http://n4g.com/news/1218606/activision-shows-off-next-gen-visuals

http://n4g.com/news/1218713/activisions-impressive-tech-demo

So even devs using UE4 have to start from scratch when the update comes if they want to incorporate it

Wait, so devs/pubs should use this engine to justify people going out to buy hardware?

Last I heard, the companies you mention aren't making consoles, they're making games. If they think they can make a more stable, better playing and more cost effective game using UE3, why shouldn't they?

Some UE3 games (like I mentionned before) can run even worse than if they used UE4. So you don't need really a new hardware if you could run the nightmarish performing UE3 games.

2.50? I might support it with my card money

From what I've seen, the majority of this disinformation is the direct bi-product of the PC vs Consoles debate lately. Someone makes up an argument that "720p is better than higher PC resolutions because it's easier for your eyes to process" and people run with it to the point that it basically becomes an urban legend. The real reason behind it is they feel the need to justify their initial investment in a high-priced console, and human psychology tells us that one way people rationalize choices they've made is to discredit their alternatives so that their choice is justified in their own mind.

The reality is that the whole "PC vs Console" debate is pointless and counterproductive. Everyone is free to choose how they want to play their games and shouldn't be ridiculed or put down by others for choosing a platform that works for them.

Yeah I wholeheartedly agree. Though the debate in differences between owners of a particular platform and the competition has taken on many forms over the years (today's resolution wars were yesterday's bit wars) it really does get away from the uniqueness of the platform. Alright fair enough some are more similar than comparing a NES to a C64 to an Amiga which were all out at the time and had vastly different capabilities, library's and even the same title for each was usually wildly different but even a PS4 has things a WiiU can't do and vise versa let alone appealing to different audiences too.

Though it's not like this embattled stance is one taken by every owner of said system and is more than likely a very small percentage. Sadly though they do sometimes become the most visible. Personal I tend to stay out of the way of such debates as I've really nothing to add nor anything to gain though they're bloody hard to avoid.

Where the bold and brash claims come from I'm a little puzzled. Maybe it's just ignorant kids, maybe it's like all urban myths that spread like wild fire if that's the chorus people want to hear, maybe it's hearing something from what they perceive as an authority figure so it must not be questioned. Who know's but I'll say this when I was having issues getting Watch_Dogs running and not stuttering like Porky Pig Mario Kart 8 came out and despite it's resolution and lack of anti-aliasing, despite it also having framepacing issues, despite it being on the WiiU I had lots and lots of fun with friends and family. That's the main thing I try to get out of this hobby (well that and +1's to the Steam game count).

yes lets ignore all the 9s and 8s its getting everywhere else, lets focus on the IGN review to make up our minds

It isn't getting high scores everywhere else though, far from it, and the points the lower scoring reviews make sound reasonable.

its getting more decent scores than 5.9s thats for sure, so neither should you use a random 9 review to say "this game is amazing!" nor should you cherry pick the 5.9 from IGN and go "oh well guys guess we were wrong in hoping for a good game"

I can agree with that.

Ok makes sense then. Thanks for that.
Yeah I'm just going for the story. Currently at 8 hours which is still good for that sort of thing. Mission 18 definitley liking it though.

Even though I finished everything in 18 hours. I sorta speed run my way through the 2nd half of the game. So if you and anyone else take it at normal pace. To completely beat the game. It would probably take another 2-3 hours.

The last mission is a bit longer than most other main story missions. 18 hours is pretty perfect when it come to a game like this. Not too short not too long IMO.

Ups, wasn't aware that there are this many reviews already out there. So what is wrong with IGN o_O Why are they scoring this game so low compared to the other reviews?

Because even reviewers are people and people like different things?

Also, time for some Mordor. Playing video games, what is that.

IGN - 5.9?
Then that game is 10/10

Never forget.

Heavily modified UE3 WILL NEVER equal what UE4 offers now, we are at 4.5 version and UE3 took 8 years to reach 3.5 version.

Also your last argument doesn't stand, then why we buy new PCs, new graphic cards, new consoles? Why even devs come up with new techs or engine? If graphics won't improve many will lose their jibs and die. Graphics don't make a game better, but it the first thing you notice in the game, the thing that greets you first, sth THE GAME NEEDS. Also graphics can take part into the gameplay and not look pretty only just like how GOW3 graphics helped in bringing new titans gameplay, and how simulview tryue sky ( a tool that creates realistic clouds and skybox ), only used now in Driveculb where clouds creates shadows on the racefield and hide the sun and when they move and expose the sun again it dazzles you in the racefiled and you can't drive for certain time. This kind of things participate in the gameplay.
Truesky is compatible with UE4 engine if some people want to use it.

I never said a modified UE3 would equal UE4. But you cannot easily port to UE4 a game running on an heavily modified UE3. It would be time and money consuming, and for what results? And maybe the modifications you've made to the UE3 make it more suitable for the game you want to make, when Epic only gives you some generic tools.

Also, reading the blog post from Xing devs, what you seem to describe as an easy process seems to be quite painful (I quote: "Almost nothing transfers over...the landscape sort of can, but you have to re-size it and repaint it. To be honest at one point, staring at a blank map again with incorrect lighting, no painting and only 5 meshes in my arsenal, I wanted to cry").

On a project the size of Batman or such AAA games, that could be a disaster. Would it really be worth it? IMO, no. But if you want an example of a game that constantly switched engines or versions to "get better", look at Daikatana...

I would also like to think that buying a $600 GPU is a social act that feeds graphics programmers and artists' families, but I'll stick to my crappy laptop to run Spelunky and 3D games on whatever settings allow me to play at 60fps.

Of course graphics can have an impact on the gameplay. But I really doubt a move from UE3 to UE4 will.

I would agree if it was a 7 or 6.7 or something like this, but with a 5.9 maybe there are some aspects in the game that are not that great. I mean IGN isn't the only site with a little "lower" review score. I know it doesn't make sense to talk about scores, but maybe it shows that there could be something in the game which is not for you.

EDIT: Ok 3.0 for God Hand is hard :D

GOD DANG IT, I NEED TO SELL YOU GUYS ON SILENCE OF THE SLEEP. It's really, really good so far. I need to mention it again.

No seriously, I literally think this is the best horror game I've played so far this year out of all the indie horror Steam releases. It's really, really good and a good bit unique, but very well executed. Some great art direction and audio design with a developer who's made something that is both interesting, and actually scaring me a few times, and avoiding pitfalls indie horror games usually fall in. It really starts picking up at chapter 2.

Some choppy gifs:

[IM]

I am off to a pretty rough start as the game bugged out when I started the game for the first time and tried to adjust the resolution, couldn't figure out at first that E was the key to move the dialog forward and this multimonitor issue: http://steamcommunity.com/app/321870/discussions/0/61618974279743585 but so far it's pretty great (first 20 minutes). Like 2D Silent Hill with the items, sounds and overall look.

There is an interesting tendency for people to choose outlier reviews, and use them as the sole indicators of the quality of a game. The merit of review scores (or lack thereof) has been discussed to death, but it's fascinating to me when a game is generally getting reviewed well, and then a negative review comes out and people point that that review alone as proof that the game isn't very good (or when a sole review is positive on a poorly reviewed game). The same thing happened last week with Mordor.

Granted, games that review well aren't necessarily good, especially factoring for differing tastes. There is certainly merit to looking at outlier opinions to analyze why they differ from the majority. And maybe you even agree with these outlier opinions, or find them to be more informed. It's just a bit silly to use the fact that a single person disliked the game as evidence of it being bad (without any justification beyond that), when the majority of the people who played it (so far) feel differently.

It's pretty obvious the big difference in the Alien reviews is if they feel the AI is "fair" or not. The poor reviews found the game frustrating, and that's going to leave a negative taste. Honestly it's nice to see some variance in the reviews, you can get a better impression of how it actually plays rather than just uniform praise or scorn.
