NBA 2K15 should be allowing preloading at some point today. GMG sent out keys if you bought it from there (25% off) this morning so you can register it to your account as a pre-order.

Got to like when sites like IGN, Polygon, Gamespot post not so good scores people easily blast them or shrug them off as non-trustworthy, but when they post good scores "holy shit, look at them 9s and 10s!"

On mobile.
Ill do it when I get back.

After 18 hours, I finally finished Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, 100%. I don't think I ever played a game non-stop like this before. I just couldn't put it down. There are some minor flaws, overall it's wonderful. But I think in the end this game accomplished what it set out to do. Great job Monolith, you got yourself a winner here. I'm very satisfied with this game.

Pow! I believe the general consensus is that it is quite short if you critical path it. But if you play around with the nemesis system then it can take any amount of time.

The best part is the fact that numbers are completely arbitrary, no magazine or site has such thing as like a detailed scale of what each point is supposed to mean, and everyone, both gamers and reviewers alike, all know that the above is true but gamers still pretend like they believe numbers are everything. It's such a silly charade.

Ok post. I give it a 7.

So while 93 does tell me that the reviewer enjoyed the game using this...

I once gave an unexpected game a 10/10, partially because it genuinely was fucking fantastic, but also partially to mess with people's expectations. The issue came out and, to no one's surprise, all of our readers lost their goddamn minds because "only certain games deserve certain scores". Yet I still haven't learned that people (or at least vocal forum denizens) pretty much only read reviews to confirm their own opinions, as opposed to actually learning anything about the game, and it still catches me off guard.

Ok makes sense then. Thanks for that.
Yeah I'm just going for the story. Currently at 8 hours which is still good for that sort of thing. Mission 18 definitley liking it though.

Did you receive the first Bloodborne Alpha mail which just gave you the chance to get in?

Nope. Guess I should've done something to even get that far but totally missed the boat.

Also hasn't the Alpha already started in Europe? Oh wait, you got DC today. Speaking of which, can't wait for the DC review thread, hehe.

I'd highly recommend just screwing around a bit. The story is probably the most derivative and boring part of the game. Doing stuff with the nemesis system is so much fun. I just keep doing all the vendetta missions to avenge my fallen brothers and having a ton of fun.

It was enough a thing to make this mildly funny meme and then was forgotten forever by everyone

Wait what, how long has the client had that dirt/splashes in the chrome?

Not sure how I haven't seen this before. It is amazing and justifies the development of TES Online.

So, the Alien: Isolation reviews are a bit all over the place, huh? Not too sure what to make of them, really, being (as it seems) the sort of experience that may just not appeal to everyone. Still seems to be the sort of personal experience one will need to make their own judgment on, more so than with some other styles of game/gameplay. Kinda like when reviewing and evaluating films or something.

On another note, I was hoping (naively!) that the Uplay update might integrate the Steam friends list. Having such a diverse and learned collective of Steam buddies (most of whom are from this community) is one of my favourite and most treasured aspects of the Steam service, and Uplay titles feel particularly barren in respect to leaderboards etc in comparison.

I've messed around with enough missions to get to the last tier for unlocks.
Just taking a break from them. Though I could see myself coming back in the future to mess around with them more.

I'm trying to be a sensible individual in a review thread. Why do i torture myself like this? No one wants to have a reasonable discussion in those threads, freedom, stop it.

GOD DANG IT, I NEED TO SELL YOU GUYS ON SILENCE OF THE SLEEP. It's really, really good so far. I need to mention it again.

No seriously, I literally think this is the best horror game I've played so far this year out of all the indie horror Steam releases. It's really, really good and a good bit unique, but very well executed. Some great art direction and audio design with a developer who's made something that is both interesting, and actually scaring me a few times, and avoiding pitfalls indie horror games usually fall in. It really starts picking up at chapter 2.

Some choppy gifs:

Yep, it is great, Neverending Nightmares was a bit disappointing but now this game comes around the corner and is surprisingly good. Reminds me a lot of the old Silent Hill.

That's exactly my stance on it. Neverending Nightmares wasn't terrible, it was okay, but very disappointing. But Silence of the Sleep may be the best horror game to have released this year, I really enjoyed Claire and DreadOut (and both are very underlooked), but I think this may be the better game. It does have a lot of Silent Hill vibes in the best possible way though.

Not sure if you're talking about the Alien Review thread or not, but I just gave it a glance and man is it a painful read. Essentially stroking those who reviewed it well while also slandering/discrediting those who scored it low.

Read at your own risk.

This is why I like the thumbs up / down / ~ thing Steam uses, as it will only provide the most basic of indications for the game along with the total reviews involved, while I can then simply flick through reviews in full for a better indication and clear understanding of just how subjective the reviews are and I can disregard joke posts. Far more useful than IGN - "Amazing", then look up the review to find you have no idea of where the quote was taken from. Perhaps it was from the sentence "It is amazing how bad this game is"?!

Yeah reviews don't mean poo to me only when they are able to point out serious flaws within a game, and real flaws not the ones were said reviewer doesn't know how to play. Sure they provide a so called baseline of the game, but we all like different things. Someone who hates tower defense games is already going to have a negative mindset when giving a review of that genre. It really helps validate the idea that they didn't fuck when purchasing a game. I know I've felt this way before when I've pre ordered something.

Hey we're only human. We might agree or disagree on some concepts there but are sometimes when we like and dislike different things and sometimes for different reasons too. Nothing wrong with that but it's never really communicated very well by metrics unless you know that person to a t. End of the day though review scores aren't going anywhere. The ridiculous 100 point scales, the 5 star systems and the 'yes. no maybes' (which is just a silly 2-3 point scale) will remain in place for a long, long time as they're too good for publisher to use as marketing tools (good score providing). And for the outlets themselves it's a way for them to drive more traffic through either contention or MetaCritic visibility.

NotTheGuyYouKill started a thread about how review score got so 'broken' and Stump as always with sage like advice just replied.
Read the review, ignore the score. Magically unbroken.
And that's just it, you're not going to change the process of how reviews are going to be scored, metered, compared or quantified but you could just read the context of said review and make your own judgement.

The dialog is also written well. I still need to try Claire and DreadOut, shoud put it on the wishlist.

Hmm, it seems so, I read before that in some sites that they used UE4, but seeing trailers and screens, I recognized ll UE3 assets and effects (limited ones). Wikipedia also states it uses UE3. Shame on them.

I'm actually glad they're using UE3, because otherwise I wouldn't be able to run it!

Wishlisted this, looks pretty cool.

Why? They're not a big studio.
If they paid for an engine and have experience in using it, it would be crazy to switch to a new one halfway through production.

Big studios like Warner Bros still use UE3 while the small studios are the ones that use UE4 THE MOST. Acquiring UE4 is not sth impossible since there are so many ways to get it even fro free.

UE4 not only looks miles better, but it runs a lot better than the craptastic UE3.

Yup, for me to find out where the story is going but the dialog is interesting and the story is as well. The characters also have a fun, Lynchian sort of style to them. The Red Tie Man so far has been what has intrigued me the most. I haven't finished the game, only got to Chapter 3 Day 1.

But I am going to mention this game now as it is unknown right now but I honestly do think it may be one of the indie horror greats, one that has totally surpassed my expectations on it.

Listen to him, you should all buy this game instantly :D Would be great if there would be more games like this.

Yeah, no.
It's not the acquisition of UE4 that's the problem, it's having to retrain the new pipeline and redo assets and code for it. Games don't magically look better because you're using a newer engine, you know, it takes hard work =p

Epic released tools and plugins to instantly port UE3 content to UE4. You bring your game content from UE3 to UE4 and very few clicks you convert your game to use UE4 assets with no big hurdle. Ok it won't look as good as a game built from scratch with UE4, but still it can benefit from the additions and make it look better. Also going from UE3 to UE4 is not a big difficulty for those used to work on UE3.

For example those devs switched from UE3 to UE4 with ease and got better results and they are small devs too: http://xingthegame.blogspot.com/2014/04/we-made-switch-to-unreal-engine-4.html

There is no excuse for someone to not get better. The only excuse is easy money.

One more choppy gif of Silence of the Sleep, doesn't show too much but is the area where the game starts really picking up.

Devs change engines for their own needs. There is literally no way Epic could account for all of that in a conversion tool. So no, it actually is a big hurdle.
