Stalker would be hard as balls on a gamepad. You really need to go for headshots, tilt your head around corners, etc. It demands a lot of fine-precision over your movements.
I really don't understand people that play FPS on PC with gamepad. You wouldn't play a RTS on PC with gamepad because M/KB is superior in every way. PC gamers learnt how to play with Gamepad. Console gamers can learn the MKB combo as well...

Stalker is already hard as balls even with the keyboard and mouse. I had to bump the settings down to Novice just to stand a chance. Even ignoring the fact that the UI designed for a keyboard and mouse, it'd be impossible to enjoy it with a gamepad.

Odd. At any rate, it's just the game uninstalled. I got sick and tired of running into radiation and anomalies. That ruined any enjoyment I got from the rest of the game.

I suspect you'll like Pripyat a lot more, for that reason alone. Anomalies are mostly contained to certain areas, making exploration a lot easier.

What is there to understand other than people want to use different control methods? People have been playing FPS games with sticks since goldeneye on the 64 and are just used to that. I play MoW: Assault Squad all day with my KB/M, but I prefer to play my FPS with a gamepad. Just personal choice.

That's reassuring. Nothing was more of a mood killer than having to go out of my way to avoid Anomalies just to hit a location.

Kinda reminded me of the convicts in Dead Rising, actually...

You can't play a game like Stalker with a Gamepad. It's not even worth trying. You would die right in the first shootout with bandits. You don't have the precision or the accuracy.

Learn the Mouse and Keyboard and you'll come to understand why it's not a matter of personal choice.

Here is my take on Guild Wars as a person who has played it a crapload since launch from a PvE perspective:

Just to add to this, Guild Wars has a lot of great features that make it different from other MMO's:
-no subscription fees (only microtransactions for character slots, vanity costumes, skill unlocks)
-level cap at 20, but equipment mods and skill unlocks mean you don't stop "getting better"
-an emphasis of skill over farm
-the ability to respec your character without cost (you have two professions and while your primary is fixed, you can choose any of the other professions as your secondary)
-the ability to instantly warp to any previously-visited location
-scaling is excellent (I can run it on an integrated graphics card) and the UI is clean and efficient. Also, the time between patching and logging on is really fast.
-only cities and towns are persistent. Areas with enemies are instanced so you aren't fighting with others for drops and spawns.

The biggest drawback IMO is that the lack of persistent areas and community-based features means you're basically going through the game solo. The heroes and henchmen mitigate this somewhat (recently they let you have an entire party of heroes) but unless you can get into a large, active guild it's hard to group up (late-game missions are pretty populated though so it's not hard to get into a party).

B-b-b-b-but people have been using kb+m since before that!

We can all agree that playing an RTS game on the PC with a gamepad is just plain dumb. But playing an FPS/3rd person game on the PC with a gamepad or a keyboard/mouse just comes down to personal preference.

Gameplay wise it more then holds up, it does so much more then moderns games do. Graphically however it can be pretty rough depending on your tolerance for old 3d graphics.

I'd recommend updating the renderer though: DirectX 9 or DirectX 10

Is it worth spending money/tickets to make your ship yellow? Seriously?

Yes it's worth it. The skin is cool and the default ship is harder to see in the visual mayhem.

So what's the proper way to uninstall a game w/o deleting game saves?
Apparently Steam doesn't delete saves because it just deletes the game's subfolder in the Steam folder, and saves are generally stored elsewhere, like My Documents or %appdata%, but if you're concerned, you can always google and find out where the saves are stored for that particular game and then simply copy the folder and keep it somewhere.

BURGER.MOUTH and ROASTIN.MARSHMALLOWS, right? Isn't that the only game with two summer achievements?

Oh, three then. There's also one about a Fish that you get from 2-6. So three summer achievements.

Flight Control HD added 3 as well but only one of them was summer related and we've already had the ticket for it.

I am thinking about getting Deus Ex GOTY, but I have never played it before. Got a couple questions about it:

1. Does the gameplay still hold up?
2. Is it still fun?
3. Is the second game, Invisible War worth extra $2.50?
4. Are there any mods or anything to update the graphics or gameplay?

I'm not familiar with the game at all, but if a friend and I bought it, would we be able to play through most of the game together?

Jack up the auto-aim and the gamepad plays nicer imo. If you where trying to make a point at least mention Quake or Unreal Tournament. Which are just bad games on the controller. Kids these days with their Stalkers.

At 2,50 you should buy just for the sake of owning it.

There is no 2nd game that steam shows invisible war with the franchise sale button is a glitch.

I agree with this. RTS is pretty much a mouse and keyboard game. But for FPS I rather use a pad, it's more comfortable and I hate having to have my hands in the position to use the kb/m when with a pad I can sit relaxed and play.

Learn it? I have played hundreds of hours of Battlefield 1942 and 2. I just simply prefer a gamepad like the 360 controller. KB/M just isn't for me and it is a personal choice.

wait so does the call of pripyat loyalty program work for just call of pripyat? Do i still need the original games?

What's really impressive about AI War - keep this in mind as you play it - is that the entire game was essentially created from the ground up by one person, with very little outside assistance. Truly an incredible feat, especially for a game that has more depth and scope than most full-priced retail titles. Arcen has actual staff now and the game is better for it - I'm pretty sure all of the original art assets have since been replaced, and I know there are a couple other guys who worked on the expansions - but it's still pretty cool to know this was the brainchild of one guy, laboring alone for months and months until his vision became reality. Very inspiring.

His name is Christopher Park...I love reading interviews with this guy. He's obviously quite intelligent, and he's much more open in speaking about the process of indie design than most developers are.

I played CoP without having touched the others and I absolutely loved it.

It's possible, and not necessary to play Shadow of Chernobyl before call of Pripyat. But would I recommend it? Not really.

You need either of the other STALKER games to take advantage of the loyalty program.

Yes, although the first level is not one of the better levels and you might feel a little overwhelmed and underwhelmed simultaneously. If you play, wait until you've gotten to the airplane about 3 missions in, and that's when the game starts getting truly amazing.

Yes, it's still fun today.

No, Invisible war is not worth $2.50. It's a running joke that you have to hate Invisible War to become a mod here (my thread about the ways in which the game failed, long EviLore's similarly negative impressions of the game)

There's exactly one mod for Deus Ex that you'll want. Someone wrote a DirectX 10 rendered for all UE1 games which is compatible with Deus Ex. :) There are a few other texture mods but nothing that you GOTTA HAVE.

Cheers.

Deus Ex is amazing. A lot of it hasn't aged very well, but it's still one of the best games ever made. Amazing story, incredibly deep and open-ended gameplay. I still think it's one of the best examples of player "choice" ever made.

Haven't played the second, but have always heard it's pretty bad.

How do i do the Monday Night Combat Achievement? And Yet it Moves Achievement? I already got those 2 games.

I tried to play Beat Hazard with a keyboard and mouse but was virtually unplayable for me. Ordered a wired 360 controller off amazon $30 :)

Now you get the best of both worlds.

I managed to get my XBCD drivers working with Beat Hazard so that the special weapons are on the bumpers and triggers, and I'm really enjoying the game so far. Well worth $15, let alone $3.24.

There's a demo for King Arthur. I'm downloading it right now to see if 1. it works and 2. it's good.

So that covers about 2 of your questions, even though the demo is pretty big.

Ok, my Steam account is acting funny and I'm worried.

Mine has been playing up since the sale started. Never had a problem buying stuff but I've been logged out of the Community stuff. I tried to log into that earlier and got caught in a trap of having a validation code but it wouldn't accept it. So I restarted Steam and everything was working again.

Damn it I bought invisible war already! Theres nothing redeeming about it? Even for continuity reasons to prep for human revolution?

It's one of those things where it's an okay game on it's own, but being the sequel to one of the most highly regarded PC games definitely works against it.

Human Revolution takes place significantly before DE1, DE:IW takes place a while after. There's no continuity reason to play DE:IW. As I mentioned in the very long thread I linked you, it's not a good game. You might want to play it just to understand why it's not a good game or a good sequel, but beyond that if you're pressed for time definitely not and I don't recommend it.
