Hopefully I'll actually play the games this time.

Im so happy Stalker went on sale that was on my list of games I wanted. Now I only care about 3 others:

Metro 2033
Mirror's Edge
Duke Nukem Forever

I'm trying to save what little money I have left for those.

Ok, my Steam account is acting funny and I'm worried.

It is logged in to Steam fine but when I go to buy something it asks me to re-enter my log in info. I put it in and then it asks me to verify my humanity by entering a code. I do this several times and it fails.

Eventually it tells me "wrong password" and I know it isn't because I am staring at the e-mail with my last Steam password change in it from a few months ago.

So I try again and eventually it goes through after several more errors. But then I got this message saying "It's been a while or you are logging in from a different browser." I have never logged into Steam from any computer but this one. It tells me it sent a verifying e-mail to my email address. I check that address and no e-mail. I wait awhile and check again, still no e-mail.

I went through this process several times with the same results. Anyone else having weird account problems? I'm starting to get paranoid.

You know, normally this would freak me out, were I you, but given all the wackiness with e-mail the past few days I'm going to (beat) hazard a guess and say you are probably okay. Somebody earlier in the thread said they waited over 24 hours for their Steam guard e-mail to arrive. And I got logged out of my account earlier today for no reason (just for purchasing and not for playing which I thought was kinda wacky).

Anyway, if you can't access your games at all I would contact support immediately...otherwise I would just wait out the storm. Things will be back to normal next weekend.

edit: When it asks you to verify your humanity, you're entering a steamguard code and not your password, right? And you're paying attention to caps?

edit 2: if your only problem is purchasing games, you might try purchasing via the web browser instead of the application until the sale is over.

Is the Guild Wars Trilogy worth it this late into the game GAF?

Absolutely. The campaigns are a lot of fun to play through, and if you get Eye of the North you can even unlock stuff for GW2 when that finally comes out.
People are still actively playing the game, and with the Hero companions you can solo/duo most (or all) of the game as well.

Guild Wars 2 is still ages away, there hasn't been any mention of a date as yet, so I wouldn't hold out for that reason. I'm sure you'll have finished the mayority of what's in the TRilogy long before GW2 finally arrives.

Telltale, right? I wonder why they aren't using achievements for their adventure games?

I guess they're more linear, but there's still room to do something interesting with them.

Is that AI War: Fleet Command any good? Looks kind of interesting...

It is excellent but huge and intimidating. If you like depth in your strategy games, buy immediately...if you prefer lighter fare this game will drown you. To death. Thrice.

Duke was <$30 on Green Man Gaming for the past week. Key is redeemable on Steam. I'd check now but the site won't load for me. I know it was still there yesterday. You can get F3AR for <$40.

Just tried the Beat Hazard demo with Drink the Sea by the Glitch Mob. Fucking SOLD.

Picked up Call of Pripyat too, despite not really liking the hour or so I played of the original Stalker. Looks hot though from the screens that have been posted here.

The Ultra DLC allows you to turn the visualizer to 200 percent. Haven't played with it yet, but I'm hoping for near seizure status:)

And I'm not sure anybody really likes the first hour of STALKER. I know it took me a couple years to trudge my way past that point. Just install the Complete mod and force your way a little further. Once the game finally takes off and clicks, it's legendary.

Yeah, I'm putting in the code on the verify humanit, not my password. Eventually it works, though.

The real problem is that when I get to the Steam Guard "it's been a while/input e-mail confirmation code" thing and I don't have an e -mail from Steam.

I can still access all my games. I can even shut down Steam and boot it back up and it works fine. This is just for when I try to make a purchase.

I also did a scan using Microsoft Security Essentials and came up clean.

I did just remember that I used a broswer in the college library to check my e-mail earlier today (did not log into Steam) and realize that I *may* have forgot to log off (though they do it automatically in a few minutes). But I can still access e-mail fine and logging into Steam isn't a problem.

I'm going to change my e-mail password just in case, but I could log in and buy stuff. First for just the peace of mind, but second because I wanted to buy a Monday Night Combat 4 pack. :)

Yes, but be prepared for extremely dated visuals.

That's the least of my concerns. Actually, to be honest, the more dated the better: my computer runs like shit with the newer titles. The only thing I'm concerned about is the gameplay.

Try using the web browser instead of the application for a purchase, see what happens. I bet that will work.

How is King Arthur? Did it get much post-launch support to iron out some of the issues reviewers mentioned?

Also, holy shit at the Paradox pack - 90% off.
It got two expansion packs so I guess so?

That makes sense, hadn't considered it. They're out of my price range this time around so I've pushed them aside mentally, I guess.

Gameplay is still ahead of most of today's releases.

The original campaign is ridiculously awful, but Factions and Nightfall are still great fun.
What? The original campaign was by far the best of the three. Nightfall is good too, but Factions is awful.

They kind of expected you to use real players to get through the mainline story missions, though. I suspect that Nightfall's has enough people to have fun with, particularly with heroes, but the other campaigns might be less worthwhile.

Bentendo said:
Would someone who's never played Deus Ex enjoy it?
Maybe. Though, I didn't so it's not a guarantee.

Ha ha, me neither. Ever since I went batshit insane on the first Steam sale we establish a budget on the first day (and then I just use my Steam wallet instead of my card, works great for budgeting during these sales)...but I have some issues sticking to it. :p Eighteen bucks left but if Portal 2 pops up - and it will - it's mine, dammit.

Anyway, despite the fact that I tend to go a tad over anyway, figuring out how much you want to spend and putting it in your Steam wallet on the first day is a great way to stay close to your budget.

Nothing has come close to matching the depth that Deus Ex brought. It's the opposite of dated in terms of gameplay, it feels like how games in the future should have played (but don't).

If I was only going to buy one S.T.A.L.K.E.R game which one should I get?

I got this one.

You should start with SoC and get the Complete mod before playing. So sayeth gaf.

Man, I cannot wait for the Atom Zombie Smasher cheev to pop up. I love that game and I hope the cheev is reasonable enough that it turns some people onto the game. Unlike the AAaaaAAAaaaa cheev which just made people hate it immediately.

Well I'll try it out I guess. It's only $2.50 after all.

Here is my take on Guild Wars as a person who has played it a crapload since launch from a PvE perspective:

The game is ABSOLUTELY worth getting for that price. The Prophecies campaign is a lengthy, slow set of missions that will take you many, many, many hours to complete. If you won't want to do Prophecies, you can start with Nightfall or Factions. Both are VERY good (Nightfall being the best, I think) and they paced the game a LOT better. You'll reach max level very quickly and you can enjoy the main stuff: the end game.

Saying it isn't worth getting a game that'll give you well over 100 hours or enjoyment because Guild Wars 2 is coming out "soon" is just plain silly. We have NO clue when GW2 is being released in 2012. They have yet to go into a normal closed beta, let alone a public one. They still haven't shown off the final class and a ton of other things have yet to be revealed. GW2 is likely not going to be an early 2012 game. I'm thinking Q2 as best.

In GW1, you can play a fantastic game for a long time and even earn stuff for your GW2 character including getting a name locked in AND unlocks for completing certain things in GW1. Not to mention, the game is just a blast to play.

The game is still quite populated, especially in the later areas where people have difficulty (this game is not easy in the level 20 content). The early areas are VERY simple to get through soling and just take a little time in Prophecies because the pacing is not very good (they cleaned that up SO well in Nightfall and Factions, you'll be level 20 very very fast).

If you don't mind not starting with the original campaign (some people just feel like they have), I'd recommend any new player to start with Nightfall and go from there. You aren't going to miss anything, since you can just hop over to the other campaigns very easily. You'll also get some heroes, which is 100% better than generic henchies, so that is a great plus.

The games are packed full of content, an interesting main story, great gameplay, fantastic music, and some amazing art direction.

Buy it. NOW.

Where do I choose for for the hdtp release 1 setup for Deus Ex hd texture pack mod - I never really messed with a mod w/ a video game before.

Nice quotes from the AI War dev on their daily deal results:
In other sales we've done we've seen a massive uptick in sales, but this one is looking to be pretty special -- it's earned more in the last hour than we tend to earn during the average no-sale month.
and
So far in the last 90 minutes, earned more than in the entirety of February, March, and April. And those weren't particularly bad months, either.
And buy AI War if you're at all interested in strategy games! The best deal is the "alien bundle" with the game plus all three expansions for only $4.49, but if you really want to skimp, if you buy the base game for $2.99, you can get the first expansion for free in the summer sale ticket booth. Hard to go wrong either way for a really interesting and different sort of RTS.

For the record, it took me roughly ~100 to ~130 hours per character to beat the original campaign.

Spiral Knights: Star-Spangled Bomber / Obtain a Firecracker bomb.

Winter Voices: Summer's Gone, But A Lot Goes On / Achieve a 100% success in the third encounter of the prologue (departure of the father) after walking on the "Summer Scent".

Wings of Prey and Guild Wars is tempting. I've wanted to play Wings of Prey even before it was released. I just don't think I can support a company that continually gave the middle finger to potential customers/fans for so long. Also, being a Russian company and their yuPlay client makes me wary.

I've played the Guild Wars trial, which was alright. I will definitely be playing GW2 though. With my backlog being so big and playing WoW still, I'm not sure the investment would be a good one. Plus I'd only want to play solo.

About the receipts:

And

Interesting, but in any case that's for a hijacked account, I don't really see that happening.

Main thing is that your account button in the top right is the TRUE real deal area, if it's there, you own it.

Yea, I don't like that, I'm missing one confirm email from yesterday. Doesn't matter that it can't be used for proof of purchase on their end, I keep them for my own records, not having to look in the Steam client.

If you are willing to put the time into a game, AI War is one of the best single-player strategy games out there. Its asymmetric approach to the genre-one where you and the computer AI starts on drastically different footing-enables all sorts of cool things. Highly recommended.

Super awesome in co-op as well, if you have a set of like-minded friends.

I think every season released for any of their series so far has had an achievement set on another platform. They should bring those all over to Steam.

My daily damage update:

For myself:
Shogun: Total War 2 DLC
Just Cause 2 and Dlc's
Magicka Complete
New Vegas DLC's: 5.98
Ruse + Prima guide + Chimera DLC $14.26

For friends:
Bad Company 2 Pack $9.99

Left in budget: $1.32

Odds I will go over budget: 100%
Odds I will sell a kidney to buy more games: 1% and growing

Well, it didn't take me too long to use up my budget. I just grabbed the Beat Hazard Ultra for $1.24 leaving my remaining "budget" at $.08. Steam, you win again.

Odd. At any rate, it's just the game uninstalled. I got sick and tired of running into radiation and anomalies. That ruined any enjoyment I got from the rest of the game.
