So I have a little over €16 left in my Steam Sale warchest. Got a €50 card before it started.

Any idea on what to do with that? I'm looking at Tropico 4 + Modern Times DLC or maybe upgrading my Civ V to GOTY and getting Gods and Kings. But I can't do both. And that doesn't use all the funds, either. Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 could also be a plan. But I can't decide and there's two hours left.

So, got any suggestions? Not The Walking Dead, don't like zombies or horror in general.

Maybe they're doing it to maximize sales, but I can't say I'm the biggest fan of the fluctuating prices that have been happening. I mentioned CS:Go flip-flopping before, but I figured that might be due to two different DB entries from back when there was a beta maybe mucking things up.

But I know when I went to sleep, after it had already been up for a few hours, that Hell Yeah was 50% off. I just checked back on a lark a little bit ago, and now it's 75% off. Which means if I had bit at 50%, I would've been irritated, for one thing. For another, if I hadn't checked back, I wouldn't have gotten it at all.

It's possible they knocked down the price because it wasn't selling that well, but I'm not completely happy with the sale prices moving around like that. I'm pretty sure there was at least one or two other sales where it started off just 25% or 50% off, when checking back later resulted in a very different price. Maybe it was a server caching issue?

As a daily Hell Yeah has been 75% off for me since the beginning. But for a little while at the start of the daily it kept switching between, I think it was 50%, and 75%.

I saw it related to Bang Bang Racing, Fireburst looks interesting, a little like it wants to be Burnout Revenge. How is it?

It must have been switching for a while, because I knew it had been up at least an hour or so when I made my decision on it. And I specifically thought that the 50% wasn't enough for me to bite the bullet at the second, even though I kind of liked the XBLA demo.

There is no horror or big scares etc. in this game. Yes, it has zombies but they are only there as a catalyst to drive the story forward. It really is all about the people you meet and how you react to them/treat them. The story in itself is really really good for a video game and therefore it is no surprise it won multiple GotYs titles. It is more of an experience that a game, you might say. It does everything (and more) Heavy Rain on PS3 wants to do and even surpasses it by far.

Just don't write it off to hastely. Maybe you could like it. Just saying.

I had a feeling I'd get a response to that line. No, I am not writing it off hastily. I am rejecting the very idea behind the game. No zombies means no zombies. I haven't watched the TV series either, I was just trying to pre-empt that suggestion because I really don't care about the game, nor the genre, but a lot of people do, and would suggest it. I like my adventure games funny. Monkey Island style, preferably. And I get a little obessive over multiple endings, so The Walking Dead is pretty much the exact game I wouldn't buy.

Although, I wonder if the other Telltale games are on sale, too... Never got the Sam and Max games.

Runs like crap on my i5 3570k and 7950 GPU. CPU constantly being hammered at 80% and lags. Very poorly optimised, no PC options besides resolution.

Something is wrong because I can play it at a locked 1080P 3D @60fps (effectively 120fps) and it never drops a frame. And my CPU is a lowly i3 2120.

Think I saw it stated somewhere that it uses PhysX. Maybe that's the issue. I use Nvidia cards so it's possible physics are being done by my GPU.

Awesome game, though. Especially terrific in stereo 3D. The art style is perfectly suited for it.

Well, that's extremely disappointing to say the least, game looked like good fun.
Will skip it, thanks for the warning.

I would ignore if you have an Nvidia card. Had zero issues in 1080P 3d with my GTX 460 or 660ti. It's the physics.

So is Rage any good? I didn't follow it much when it came out, but I vaguely recall it got a very mixed reception.

This is not completely true. I can think of several horror moments off the top of my head. They're rare, but there.

But I'm not a horror person either, and I still think highly of what I've played of the game. Would heartily recommend it just the same.

I'm pleasantly surprised that Max Payne 3 is not a piece of shit. Rockstar did a pretty good job aping Remedy's style. It's not as cool as a real Max Payne game, but I don't think it's possible for AAA games to be as cool as late 90s PC games developed in Sweden. The cover mechanics and loosy goosy aiming are steps backward from the original games' crisp controls, but they're competently designed and still feel good. Max Payne used to be cooler, but he's never been more slick.

4/5.

It depends on what you're after. The classic FPS core is absolutely fantastic, but a common erroneous assumption is that the game as a whole is akin to either Fallout or Borderlands, when in truth its RPG elements are very lightweight (namely quest-based mission design and a basic pick-up-and-sell loot system) and there are only two rather small hub worlds that lead to, almost exclusively, traditional FPS levels. The vehicular gameplay is another sore point for many players, as although they're fine for traversing the hub worlds, the race events aren't the most creative: time trials, traditional lap races, weapons-based races where you chase respawning checkpoints ("capture the checkpoint", essentially), and a sort of free-for-all deathmatch mode with rocket launcher-wielding cars.

Did mod tools ever happen for Rage? I'd give a limb to play deathmatch with those guns. Still can't believe the game didn't ship with that...

I assume a release is around the corner, as Carmack recently said that id Studio would be fixed up "the last remaining issue with releasing the Rage tools" will be dealt with over the holidays.

Guys, I have this 5$ credits on Amazon for Editor Choice Digital. Are all these games are Steam codes ? I'm looking at Spec Ops or Hotline Miami

So I got Civ V GOTY, I also have G&K which I got GMG last week but didn't redeem it yet, is there any point to playing the game before redeeming G&K or should I just go ahead and play it with the expansion added in from the get go?

I see, that would make sense yes, I have 560ti so if that's the case I should be able to run it well. Well thanks for the feedback, I'll consider it a bit more.

To add to what JaseC said, games that redeem on Steam usually have a "DRM: Steam" next to the age rating and/or "Steam account required for game activation and installation." at the end of product description.

I just went for a Civ V upgrade and God and Kings. 9.99 since I had Civ V already. Been meaning to give that game another go or two. The Danish Walking Death Robots shall conquer all! With love!

I'll just save the change for any encore sale I might have missed.

To Bastion or not to Bastion for 3.5 €?

Yes. $5 or under is worth it. Beautiful artwork, great soundtrack and narration, fun combat/weapons/skills and the game is just the right length. Easily one of the best games of that year.

I may be in the minority here, but not to Bastion. I feel it's the most overrated game in recent years.
I guess the there was to much hype surrounding it. I kinda had a "that was it?" -feeling after playing it. I still think it was a rather good game though, definitely worth 3.5€.

Another question: Was any of the horrid bugs in Alpha Protocol ironed out since launch? The game have gotten a lot of praise here, but I don't think I'll be able to enjoy it if there is still that many bugs in it.

Think my final purchase will be Bully: Scholarship Edition.

Never played it, and its a decent price.

I just bought Port Royale 2 (which I can't help but always initially type as "Portal Royale 2") as well as the Port Royale 3 "New Adventures" DLC for good measure (the only piece I was missing). I was going to wait until the Summer Sale and just pick up the Strategy First Collection (assuming its current $30 price tag repeats), but PR2 proved too great a temptation. I'm definitely done with the sale now.

What's the likelihood of Hotline Miami being in the repeated sales? Not sure whether to just jump in now.

It's 25% off on Amazon, so feel free to wait. At worst you're paying what you would have paid had you bought it through Steam at this very moment.

Edit: If somebody has Amazon promo credit to spare, they can snag you the game for $2.50.

If you choose the Trader campaign in Port Royale 3,does that get rid of the battles etc, and just focus on trading, or do you still have those to deal with in both campaigns?

Long shot, as the regular deals end in 30 minutes.

Anyone want to buy me Thirty Flights of Loving and Thomas Was Alone, for my copy of Chivalry: Medieval Warfare?

In my country, it works out a very good deal. About half price actually. Just desperate to get the games, before the deal is off.

You still get pirates, but pro-tips:
1. If you can't afford to protect your fleets properly (strength ~130 or up) from pirates, appoint no convoy escorts at all. If pirates hit your fleet then, they will just loot it but won't destroy the ships. If your convoy has weak escorts, pirates will destroy some ships and loot the others.
2. If you are getting into combat at any point, just auto-simulate it. Trust me, manual combat just isn't worth the hassle at all.

Thanks :) I'd only be playing it for the trading really, so I'm glad to hear combat can be simulated.

Edit: double post, sorry.

When I played that game a few years ago I thought it was pretty fun to do the combat manually, at least a few times.

This is Port Royale 3 (released in 2012), which has dreadful combat, it's a complete mess that makes you thankful for an auto-simulate option. I'm assuming you're referring to Port Royale 2, that had decent combat. Combat in the first Port Royale was actually pretty good, not sure why they overhauled it to begin with.
