Steins;Gate Release Date Confirmed for Europe, June 5th

sg-kurisu-thumb-news.png

While some people have been coming out early reporting unconfirmed release dates we’ve been sitting pretty patiently, awaiting for some real news from the PQube overlords. But it’s happened. It is time! Or, it will be soon. PQube have confirmed with us that Steins;Gate will be releasing both digitally and physically on 5th June!

Yep, that’s a little bit later than their initial planned release of “May”, but, all things considered, that could only be a week out of their initial estimate. Also, given how open they’ve been on their own PQube social media, and their Official Steins;Gate Facebook page about the publishing and submission process, it’s okay by us.

Brick-and-mortar retail-wise GAME will be stocking Steins;Gate, specifically their exclusive Limited Edition, which comes with the artbook in a box (the same artbook that comes in our El Psy Kongroo Edition). It’s a bit of a relief to hear that we’re not the only ones selling it. Steins;Gate is a truly great game, and it really deserves the full, proper retail release it’s getting. That doesn’t always seem to be possible lately for some games, which has been a real shame. Those of you who know me from outside this website may know me as a bit of a book lover, and I love having games such as Steins;Gate on my shelf just as much as uh, the complete Twilight saga. I mean, um, Philip K Dick, Sci-Fi Masterworks stuff.

On the North American version, PQube Head of Marketing Geraint Evans says that “the US version is still in submission — for a second it was looking like we would have to make a change to the game, and obviously this is something we did not want to do. Thankfully Steins;Gate will remain intact. We’ll update on release timings when it exits Sony submission in the US”.

We’ll let you know as soon as possible about the US release! But the Official Facebook Page guys are always pretty on top of their stuff, so throw them a Like.

Now also seems like a good time to remind you of own exclusive Steins;Gate goodies!

For starters we have our exclusive El Psy Kongroo Edition — a limited edition that comes with exclusive Future Gadget Lab replica pin badges as well as a metal upa replica! We’re also offering free worldwide shipping on it because it’s super special to us, which has been going down a treat! Get it here.

Finally! Pre-ordered it from a website that must not be named because it was the only place I could see to pre-order, might swap to game depending on the price.

Bring on the U.S. release. (Why were they worried about maybe having to make changes?)
I haven't played it (saw the anime though), but my only guess is they drink Dr. Pepper, so maybe they didn't want to change that? I think in the PC version, it was changed to "Dk. Pepper".

I've never played a full on visual novel before (played puzzle/adventure stuff like 999, Ace Attorney and Danganronpa though) so this should be interesting.

Will get for Vita.

Ah, nice to finally have a real release date. Figured it would be pushed back a little, but June 5th isn't so bad.

But it seems I still can't preorder the game anywhere in Germany.

So EU is the only region to get a physical copy from this localization?

With that free WW shipping I may just go with Rice then if it's the case.

Same day as Operation Abyss. My poor wallet.

This. Oh god. Although this gives me nearly 3 weeks to rinse The Witcher 3 uninterrupted. That probably won't be enough but at least I'll get some solid time out of it until this and Steins;Gate come to join the party.

Pretty sure US gets physical as well. It has a description of why the game received a M rating on the ESRB site, which is required for all games that hit retail while digital only don't get them.

I shall stay my wallet for now then! I was trying to research any information about pre-orders/retailers/etc. but couldn't find anything, so I appreciate you mentioning this.
Not sure how much shipping to US is, but you might check if amazon.co.uk is cheaper overall

Amazon UK is about a flat 9GBP for the cheapest worldwide shipping, in my experiences using them. They are very fast though! Got my things from them in only about 3 days.

Just checked with a US address and ended up with this since they remove VAT

Oh wow, that's better then. Was unaware they had a standard shipping fee before the WW Shipping costs for smaller items (most of the stuff i've gotten from them needed bigger boxes).

Good to finally have a release date. Got my El Psy Kongroo Vita edition preordered. Will probably pickup the US PS3 release down the line.

I know nothing about this game and my PS4/Vita are hungry.

Enlighten me please?

One of the best visual novels that will blow your mind to oblivion. Good music, story, characters and a rather nice design. Different paths for endings, good artwork for the new versions and Dr. Pepper make this release golden.

TL;DR

Buy it. Otherwise you will hate yourself.

Pre-ordered for PSV on Amazon France. Both versions (PS3 and Vita) available and at the same price, 29.99€. The release date is still May 26 though on their page though.

I've been waiting for a long time to play this game !

How do the branching paths/endings work in this game? Similar to 999 where you can go back and get a "true" ending?

I always hate "missing" stuff so I've never been a fan of multiple endings.

it would be spoilerish to explain the specifics. just play through it once like normal first.

I was literally going to start watching the anime tonight. Should I hold off? Is the game's story meant to lead into anime?

hold off. it's the same story as the game except it cuts out or glosses over some really major scenes and there are no alt endings. the game does a much better job building up the world and characters, imo.

How does SteinsGate play as a VN? I enjoyed Danganronpa but felt the puzzles actually detracted from the game and I'd have preferred a simpler, more narrative focused method of delivery during trials. Anything like that here?

There's no gameplay other than occasional dialogue choices.
