Stella Deus is upon us, my bitches!

= mine

A deadly mist called the "Miasma" spreads across the land, killing all in its path. Having forsaken hope, the inhabitants simply await their deaths.
...

The young soldier hopes this will bring an end to the Miasma.

The foul stench of Hoshigami still infects my PSone games, but still I have to give this a whirl regardless :P

Never forgive.
Never forget.
Hoshigami.

But I'll be reviewing this, so I guess I'm gonna get Stella Deus anyway.

And Final Fantasy IX..

And Legend of Legaia...

...I think there was some other game that had "OMG MIST" as a plot point too but I'm too sleepy to recall

durn it, beaten

those games rock though

Oh shit, I forgot this was coming out. I might have to return one of my current purchases to go buy this...

Hoshigami rocks, so underappreciated and misunderstood.

Totally forgot about this as well. Damn i'm up to like $150 in games i want to buy but have been to lazy to get lol. This is an RPG though so i might have to bump this up the list heh.

Didn't Superman 64 have a killer mist/fog too ?

Either way, I'm getting this.... if I can get away from world of warcraft.

Whoa, I thought it was still a couple weeks away.

Damn, wish it still was a couple weeks away...

Atlus finally updated the list on their website from the oh-so-vague May, to April 26th. Well, I will definetly be picking this up tomorrow. Have mine reserved either way.

Did any of those games call it miasma though? Or just a general mist.

Didn't Superman 64 have a killer mist/fog too ?

So did Spider-Man for PSX/DC. They didn't call it miasma, however. Just a fog.

Hoshigami was frickin' brilliant. Shame about the need to grind Towers of Trial to get those initial Coinfeigm Seals, but after that it was GOLDEN. A sadly misunderstood little work of clever design.

This must be some inside joke or something, what's the problem with the voices?

I'm just not as picky as you guys when it comes to voices.

There was plenty of evil mist in Breath of Fire IV.

I never realized what a widespread phenomenon it was. Perhaps Evil Mist is the thread that ties all game universes together, Infinite Earths style.

(edit: If we extend the category to include Evil Nothingness, then Neverending Story and Langoliers are in as well.)

I know most RPGs have a "mist", but the whole "lone soldier wants to vanquish MIASMA" kinda clicked with Crystal Chronicles...not Legaia/FFIX/whatever.

Well at least from what I've read, you can set the voice volume to 0 in the options. I'll probably see how much of the voice I can stand before resorting to that though.

Ya know ANY voice direction sounds goofy when placed against static charicature cutouts, especially the ones portrayed in that sample vid. The slight load pauses between exchanges is also an added awkward bonus.

I'm not usually one to sit and complain about voices, but after hearing that... did Atlus include the Japanese track in the game?

No.

And this was the game that had some of the finest high calibur voice acting to date in the Japanese version. It was like they got stage actors who were reading them as if they were in performance. When you're stuck with 2d stills to tell the story, awesome voice actor helps it so so much; whereas bad voice acting totally screws it up.

This is one of the few cases where I really wished they had put both tracks on. There's a way to work around limited space, it's called compressing the english dub track into .rm quality :P

well, i've played it. they really are pretty mediocre. it's an effect of a total lack of direction, really. you can tell the actors are just sitting there reading them off paper with no input from anyone. some of the people are OK, some of the people are bad. but nobody is actively good. it doesn't ruin the game or anything, but.. meh.

Is this actually shipping today? Atlus has said all along "May," and there's been no confirmation of this ship date on their part. Has anybody ordered it and it says shipped?

Haha yeah that voice acting is terrible, but come on, I doubt Atlus has the kind of localization budget that Square Enix or other companies do.

Guh this game is out today? Oh well I'll probably pick it up off ebay when I actually have time to play it.

Unless there's something missing, that one link that was posted here had some solid voice acting considering the dialogue was garbage.

Any reviews up yet? The magazine scores up at gamestats/rankings seem to fall in the standard "RPG range", and yet i still find the art design strangely compelling.

It was alright considering the dialogue was crap, like you said, and the presentation was disjointed as all hell.

Why the fuck do RPGs require a button press between sentences when the same character is speaking, even continuing the same thought?!? Ugh. If the voice acting is enabled there shouldn't even be a break waiting for a button press, it should be one smooth conversation with optional scrolling text. What a waste...

with non-cinematic presentation, i'd never want that. i'd hate to have to sit through all of the spoken dialogue, even if the acting were super good.

ACK! Music from Hitoshi Sakimoto? NICE! Perhaps I have been living under a rock, but after watching some video clips from this game, I knew the music had to be Sakimoto's. STELLA DEUS GET!

EDIT: Haha... the only thread not Nintendogged!

Picking mine up tomorrow during my lunch break. Puyo Pop Fever and Pac Pix too, if they actually came out.
