Curry has sooo much to do to be considered better than MJ and I'm not even sure it's possible tbh.

Ring number has to be in the top 2-3 most overrated metrics for measuring a great player.

That being said, I don't think he'll ever quite make it to Jordan territory. Due his late start with injuries and the fact that Jordan was an MVP-caliber player until he was 36 I think means that his longevity will keep him as the greatest for the foreseeable future. Same case could be made for a few other legends also.

Now if Curry does somehow stay anywhere close to this level until he's 34-35 then who knows.

Curry didn't even get Finals MVP in the Finals they won in and you wanna talk about GOAT.

Man sit down.
Yikes. Would have to also put uninformed media award votes up near ring number as an overrated metric.

Yeah, I don't think it's possible. Jordan averaged 30+ points per game for 8 seasons. Curry is going to fall just short of 30 this season (maybe a career high in the next game would get him there, not sure)

Agree that logic means Horrys up there also

Rings aren't the end all to be considered great.

To be talked about as GOAT though....yes you need to have as many rings as those others in the convo.

4,5,6 rings is a standard for that status. You have to do things few others have done. On top of that steph and his D will be a mark against him. Also his longevity.

Those players were that great for over a decade usually. Steph has done it, on offense at least, for two seasons. He has a looooong way to go.

Jordan was still a top player in the league even when he came back for the Wizard. They went from a .200-.300 team to about a .450 win%. He was still averaging 20+ PPG. Yes, he wasn't 30 PPG and the former dominate player he was, but at 40 years old, he was still one of the best 20 players in the league. Those late seasons are still better than Curry's first 4 or 5 seasons. Curry only started to shine last season. Jordan was basically an elite player from the get good and by his 3rd season was probably the best in the league(Only reason it wasn't the second was because he got hurt).

Curry still has about a decade or so to prove himself.

Rings are an interesting stat. You basically need them to even be considered in Basketball, because their is no other team sport so dominated by superstars.

Have to disagree. Just can't bring myself to care about rings that much. I mean to a certain extent yes, but it's way way overrated by fans imo. Like I think Lebron is a top 5 player easy, even if he never wins another ring.

As for the longevity factor, as I already said that probably keeps him out that top tier all-time.

Are y'all reading my posts lol. I agree!

Rings are def overrated. Put MJ on this year's 76ers team, is he suddenly mediocre if he doesn't carry them to 6 rings?

I hate this argument. It's false every time. We've seen players, HOF players, have great teams and not win anything.

That's why rings are absolutely a standard. Malone, barkley, ewing etc are considered great, but theyre usually left to their position and not talked about as Goats. Because they don't have the hardware along with the other things.

GOAT means greatest of all time. How could you be that if you didn't win more than the other greats?

Yes and no. As I stated, the league is entirely dominated by superstars. Basically you typically need one of the these few generational talents on your team. And when you get one of them, you build your team around them. Ala Bird, Jordan, Kobe, Shaq, etc.

Is Lebron one of the greats? Easily, but unlike everyone above, he has never had a team built around him like they had. The Cavs with and after LeBron were something like a .600-.700 win team... dropped down to around a .300. He is dragging another subpar team to the finals. The problem is, one man can't drag them to a ring.

But at the same time, almost every great player, rings do come into affect. Its hard to ignore ones like Bird, Magic, Jordan, Shaq, Kobe, when they all have a fist full of metal. Largely on their shoulders.

I mean... I guess if Steph and this group won like 5 or 6 straight that might possibly elevate him to GOAT discussion but that seems damn near impossible.

It seems silly to start talking about GOAT status this early in his career.

How the league adjusts to this team over the coming years and how he adjusts to those moves will determine where he sits at the end of the day. The fact that him and Klay now own 5 of the top 10 season records for number of 3 point goals is insane. The fact that 1st and 4th place are from players on the same team during the same season...

Unbelievable. Did not think gstate would take both games against San an.

That all time regular season record might actually happen. Crazy.

Agreed.

You gotta win, man. It matters that, say, TD is in the conversation for the greatest PF of all time.

What puts him past greats like Malone?

Yep, you guessed it.

Daaamn I didn't think they would be able to beat the Spurs twice in like 5 games. They are looking really impressive down the stretch. Let's see if they can finish the deal.

what a game... born and raised in the bay but that 72-10 Bulls team is my all time favorite. so surreal it's happening with our local team.

# of rings has very little to do with it. But Curry isn't even close to Jordan (or LeBron) yet. He'd need to continue at this rate for at least 5 more years befor wwe can even start the top 5 talk.

It takes more than two seasons.
