Steve Jobs' Home Burglarized

Saw this trending on Twitter:

The home of late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs has reportedly been burglarized, with thousands of dollars worth in computers and personal items stolen.

According to The San Jose Mercury News, a burglar broke into Jobs’ Palo Alto, Calif. home on July 17 and stole more than $60,000 worth of property. Kariem McFarlin, a 35-year-old resident of Alameda, has been arrested and charged with residential burglary in connection with the crime.

Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Tom Flattery told the Mercury News that, at this time, the act is likely to be “totally random.” He didn’t comment on whether or not any members of the Jobs’ family still live in the home.

Although it’s unknown if any of the stolen property belonged to the Job family, the house itself is currently undergoing construction. According to building permits, parts of the exterior are being renovated and two electrical panels will be added on. The renovations are expected to cost about $31,000.

Did a search, mock if old, etc.

Surprised his house wasn't as locked down as IOS.
He refused to do that. He didn't have hired security and didn't live in a gated community or had any hired help despite being mega rich. He didn't want his kids to grow up sheltered.

Read the autobiography when it came out so I'm forgetting the details, but didn't his house have terrible security? I remember reading that a schizophrenic neighbor got in once too.

That's what happens when you eschew traditional security in favour of homeopathic locks instead.

Yeah. He lived in a rather normal neighborhood. Didn't have security guards, or Nannys or anythig like that.

His autobiography is really interesting, I am at like Chapter 9 right now.... I cannot wait for the Sorkin film based on the book. will be at least a year or two though.

It's been a while since I've read the autobiography, but he didn't live a rather modest (if pedantic) lifestyle for someone of his wealth?

Usually if you broke into a rich guy's house, you'd expect to get away with more than 60k worth of goods.

Yeah, he did. I don't think he even bothered with furniture (aside from a computer, mattress, and some pictures - little things like that) until he got married. I can't imagine him having much stuff in there of much value aside from computers and other work stuff; it probably wasn't until he had a wife and kids that he started mellowing out a little and buying stuff. Definitely no solid gold statues of himself or anything like that in the house.

The big thing he was into in the years before died was building a boat (or maybe a new house? not totally sure) for him and his family, that's probably where he expected a lot of money to go. Don't think it ever got beyond the planning stage since he was such a perfectionist with it.

.

I'm pretty sure he had two houses; one with all the furnishings for his family and another for all his "perfect" minimalist crap

Swipe to unlock.

Ooh they swiped it alright

I knew it was a bad idea to also have the "Slide to unlock" feature on his home doors.

Ok I'm known to be the least funniest on Tuesdays, cut me some slack
Everyone has that feature..

Its proper, because burgled sounds silly.

Err, no Burglarized makes no sense as it doesn't follow standard grammatical rules.

If I take a taxi, does the driver driverize me home?
If I hire someone to clean my home do they cleanerize it?

Just saying.

Burgle is what people do when they steal burgers.

Also, If I hire someone to make my home sanitary do they sanitize it?
Why.. yes they do.

God, I love when a thread gets derailed because a word is different between the US and Europe, super interesting conversations every time.

I'm surprised anyone would have the balls to [Burglarize \ Burgle] his home.
