A drip of water in the form of five new shorts! https://itunes.apple.com/ca/tv-season/steven-universe-minisodes/id1155553857
It's 3 bucks for 10 minutes of content, or you could probably search a certain subreddit for some free links.

Cooking with Lion: Steven and Lion host an educational online cooking show.
Gem Karaoke: Connie documents Steven and the Gems singing their hearts out to a prerecorded backing track.
Steven Reacts: Steven reacts live to a brand new episode of his favorite cartoon show.
Video Chat: Steven and Peridot introduce Lapis to a new way to communicate.
Steven's Song Time: Steven teaches you how to play a new song he wrote!

huh... it's very like them to
make a mini episode about the fandom :P

Im a bit thorn about the video chat one, i get why it's funny, but it's a bit fucked up that the whole joke is Lapis having a PTSD episode.

The voice actor for Sadie was on Regular Show tonight. She played a rock and spoke on the phone to her friend Crystal who she called a real gem. I couldn't help but think of this show during that scene

Things are slowing down in this thread now that we're in hiatus mode, but I thought I'd drop in and link to this great SU live blog that's been going on for a few weeks now. The blogger is already up to Fusion Cuisine and so far his reactions have been on point, it's just a joy to read his thoughts on older episodes and watching him figure shit out. He's only been marginally spoiled on things so he's basically going in fresh.

Silver Liveblogs Things - starts from the beginning, in order. Also contains reactions to Pokemon Generations eventually as well as the asks he gets from the SU community (as he starts tagging them).
List of episodes - or you can just jump ahead to your favorite episodes of Season 1A and some of B.

Binge read all of these and it's an absolute treat to read, especially how much he adores Connie. How often does this update?

For a while it was one a day (sometimes two on slow days) but he's taking it slower now thanks to college exams. Or maybe that's over now, but he definitely won't be doing one today according to a recent post.

So I started going through this from the beginning, and it's kind of amazing to see how well the show planted the seeds for its later stories in the beginning.

Some nights, I'm kept awake thinking about how perfect Last One Out of Beach City is. After a month I can honestly say it is the GOAT Steven Universe episode.

What the... maybe the hiatus won't be so long after all.

Barely been an hour since it went up and there's already fan-art:

Still don't have an airing date for the episode. Sometime next week? Next month? Are they giving SU the Adventure Time treatment?

Pumpkins? You bet your butt they will have it during holloween.

Christ I had come in here thinking I had missed like 3 weeks of Episodes since Onion Gang just to find out there's a hiatus going on.

Hello darkness, my old friend...

Pumpkins? You bet your butt they will have it during holloween.

I could even see it being a Halloween episode. Steven cutting up and gutting the pumpkin was dark in context, and it means things can go in a creepy and scary direction if the pumpkin dog starts acting stranger and more hostile. They wouldn't introduce that tone shift and not have it play into the episode's plot.

They actually did it, the absolute mad men/women. It's
literally about actual farm/crops harvesting. Though they added the wrinkle of involving Steven's plant powers again.

I should've known after Hit the Diamond and Last One Out of Beach City. But I was all "Nah, man, Peridot even referred to a 'Gem Harvest' before, it's gotta be about that." Yet here we are.

To be fair,
both of those fake-out episodes ended up being completely awesome. Hit the Diamond is one of the funniest episodes they've ever done and Last One Out of Beach City is an outstanding, fun episode that greatly developed Pearl's character. Hopefully that streak continues with Gem Harvest.

So best guess would be it airing on October 27th then unless CN says different. They really put this preview out early. Like AT and Preboot, which is supposed to air on the 26th for some reason, but the preview was released like 2 months ago.

Maybe that whole week will be nothing but premieres. And probably another weeklong airing of OTGW.

This really is a fun read. It's been a great way to pass the time while waiting for all my PS4 and Wii U games to redownload >_>

Does a new set of shorts mean we'll get a new opening? Last time it was produced as part of the shorts, maybe this time as well, they're just holding it back?

It would make sense, they added Lapis and Peridot and Amethyst has reformed giving her a new look. Maybe they'll wait until after Peridot gets her star before they do the new opening.

The shorts released add up to approximately 10-11 minutes so I don't think they're holding anything back. After all they used the budget of making one standard SU episode to make 5 shorts, anymore and they would have to sacrifice another episode. Though I can see how you would think an episode was being held back, the previous collection of 'minisodes' on iTunes didn't include the 'How Are Gems Made' short and to this day still has not been included in the catalog anywhere.

That's not to say they won't ever update the OP, just not right now.

Gem Harvest was just announced at NYCC as being a 22-minute special! It will air next month.

The only other 22-minute special so far has been Bismuth...so I have high hopes for this one. Here's the extended clip aired during the NYCC panel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298SMfTNh-Y It's just the beginning of the ep, plus the official promo already released.

A future episode "Three Gems and a Baby" will feature a song by Greg called Ready for This. Judging by the bit that Tom Scharpling and Rebecca Sugar sang together at the panel, it will be about Greg's worry over raising baby Steven. Here's a video of the bit sung at the panel: https://twitter.com/cartoonnetpr/status/784424599350022144

I imagine the episode will be another flashback to a few months after Steven's birth, but it won't go into Rose actually dying or her making that decision. We'll probably get shenanigans of Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl trying to take care of baby Steven, but also a glimpse into just how they took Rose's death and their emotions right after.

Either way, get your permission slip signed, because we're going on another feels trip.

It's already renewed up until season 5. I don't think we'll be hearing any more for a while.

We're in Season 4 now, so I imagine they'll announce a renewal within 6 months-1 year. Cartoon Network is definitely going to renew IMO. Adventure Time is ending in 2018, Regular Show ends in January, Gumball is ending, Teen Titans Go can't keep up the network alone, and Powerpuff Girls isn't doing so great in the ratings, as far as I can tell. If Steven Universe wasn't their flagship show before, it's going to be very soon by default.

They need new hit shows and soon. There's a reason they've been promoting Mighty MagiSwords a lot. Besides that, Ben 10 is also getting a reboot and the new Justice League cartoon is coming soon.

Either way, Sugar said at the NYCC panel that she does have a definitive ending in mind for the show. Hopefully SU just gets enough seasons to build to the ending in a satisfying manner. Seeing how Season 3 ended, I think ending it at Season 5 would be too soon at this point. We're still waiting for the other shoe to drop on Yellow Diamond, Blue Diamond is coming back (DeeDee Magno Hall mentioned voicing Blue Pearl), and White Diamond hasn't even been mentioned by name. That, plus a whole bunch of other stuff, is a lot to cram into 1 3/4 seasons.

A breakdown of some of the stuff Rebecca was asked and her responses during the Q&A from yesterday's panel at NYCC: Link

  • when asked if Sugilitie or Sardonyx is stronger: ‘DEFINITELY, definitely Sugilitie’
  • her animation inspo as a kid was looney tunes + simpsons, ‘a lot’ of anime, and canadian animation
  • when asked if she considered Rose Quartz to be a tragic hero in the classical sense: ‘NO. but more on that to come.’
  • when asked about the possibility of an Adventure Time/SU crossover ep: ‘they take place in completely different universes!’ the crowd aww’d and someone yelled out ‘what about Uncle Grandpa?’ Rebecca responded ‘uncle grandpa crosses dimensions and realities! he can facilitate these things because of his interdimensional qualities!’
  • Rebecca learned about music playing irish music on the hammer dulcimer as a kid- she then said that she took piano lessons after that, but her teacher ‘hated her; because she would always switch out the classical sheets with irish music because she was used to playing it. she picked up the ukulele after that because she felt she just wanted to play SOMETHING, and the ukulele was easy!
  • someone asked what she had for dinner. she said pizza, because she’s in NYC. the crowd cheered for NYC pizza.
  • people asked questions ‘will there be an episode about Lion’s origins/what exactly IS Lion’, and ofc she responded ‘i can’t tell you this!!’
  • a question that she said was ‘very specific’- in onion gang, Pearl is a contact on Steven’s phone, so does that mean that pearl got a phone? Rebecca said ‘that will be addressed in detail later.’
  • of SU’s characters, she said that she identifies with Ruby and Pearl the most. (and then, ‘does that seem weird?’)
  • with regards to future projects- Rebecca said that yes, there are things she wants to do, but she’s very focused on SU right now.
  • with regards to future books based off of episodes, like ‘The Answer’, she said that there is another one she wants to do in the ‘far far future!’
  • a teacher, who was writing a lesson around ‘The Answer’, asked if there was any message that Rebecca would like to introduce the book with. she said that it would be ‘to consider what is considered good/bad/normal/expected- about the things that everybody thinks are normal, and how they don’t really work for everyone. and then how to make that different.’
  • as the last question, someone asked how it felt to be redefinig kids’ cartoons, and she gave an answer my notes don’t really do justice. i wish i had gotten it on video, but basically- Rebecca said that it was an honor to be referred to that way, and it feels really surreal. SU was the kind of cartoon she needed as a kid and she’s astonished at its success. she told us that she had felt very alone when she was younger; but it was hard to feel alone [with everyone] in this room now.
