Steven Universe |OT4| Every Rose Has Its Thorns

This whole episode made me question the concept that PD was evil...... Like why make a zoo for humans unless you felt compelled by regret to save the creature you would have to destroy to do your job? Is it that far of a leap to eventually saying lets rebel with the crystal gems?

bomb questions part 2:

If Blue Diamond has a Blue hand ship, and Yellow diamond has a Yellow hand ship... Why did Jasper show up on a Green hand ship? Is green supposed to belong to the yellow family? Does Peri just like to turn her vessel's green?

Regarding leaks:
I wasn't sure if the show would try to humanize Yellow Diamond or not. But it looks like we'll go there. The Diamonds seem to see themselves as gods / inherently superior thus deserving to rule, but even they have emotions, relationships, and are capable of compassion if they see others as their equals.

Blue Diamond's concern for humans is interesting. Even if purely scientific it's exploitable. I wonder how she would cope with Steven, who is both human yet has a remnant of the Rose Quartz.

I'm tempted to think PD conspired with Rose for her own destruction, as if there was a tactical reason to sacrifice herself to save Earth.

The gem placement on her mural combined with everything else is pretty damming.
We saw in The Answer Rose and BD in the same area. She views her as a rebel, she wouldn't be mourning her if she was PD. And there's a whole room of bubbled Rose Quartz. AND Diamonds are huge. And her gem isn't even a diamond.

unless she didn't know Rose was PD

Random thought about leak:
The more I think about it the more the Diamonds' anger feels sympathetic. BD's inconsolable mourning, YD's rage and sorrow. These are immortal beings who see one another as a ruling family. For them, there is no precedent for death. They wouldn't know how to go on with one of their number missing. It's like Pearl's unrequited feelings for Rose times 1000.

For that to work, wouldn't it require to
Have steven cry independently from Blue diamond? He was literally cryin like her, if Pink was Rose, Steven's tear would have to be independent from Blue diamond's as to convey that it was Rose crying.

I am asserting that Stevens dream powers requires some level of emotional connection to his target.

For the theory to actually limp along, one must first accept that Pearl, Garnet and maybe Amethyst are the only gems who know.

Watched the new episodes on CN earlier lol smh always a leak of some sort with SU.

Anyways those episodes were excellent and picked the season back up, couple of stray thoughts:
Glad Steven asked some follow up questions and snapped on them, they gotta chill with the secrets sometimes. Blue Diamond was not what I was expecting but not in a bad way just didn't think she would be grieving like that, same goes for Yellow Diamond. It's interesting that Steven connected to her though but guess it's just like the other times. Blue Pearl was how I expected her to be though, already better than the one we have.

Gotta give props to Greg he still got it, caught a Diamonds interest and a whole group, forgot what the girl name was, J5 or some shit. That whole group scene was a wow moment though cause it's so messed up. These were great episodes that had some important stuff happened and some pretty good humor as well.

Also the Amethysts were cool and glad these episodes weren't focused around Japser, really glad.

daaamn that leak

I think I've seen enough Gems now to say that

I'm now 99% certain that "Gem Hierarchy" is just something made up and enforced by the Diamonds, and Gems were not "thought up" (by what/whomever) to fit some assigned roles but rather to just be individuals.

So about
Blue Diamond

Anybody else having huge vibes of
Matsumoto Leiji when looking at her design?

Yo,

So kind of OT but I don't know shit about Steven Universe and saw this thread pop up and thought I'd ask.

My GFs sister loves this show and over Christmas she got me a present despite me telling her and her family they didnt need to. I told her to Lmk what she wanted, of course shes too nice and will never tell me, so I need to know...

Whats the coolest SU thing I could get her? Is there a official shop or fan site with some sweet gear? I know she has a few shirts, I'm trying to best that.

Thank you in advance and sorry if I derail anything!

I still stand that
Pink Diamond had an affinity for living creatures and wanted to keep them but didn't love them enough to not destroy earth by making the cluster, her gems likewise loved the earth life but Rose was the first to go "If we love the earthlings, we should set them free."

Please note
Peridot's ship was only a hand, the Diamond's ships where entire Arms, I always thought Peridot obviously held a higher rank than Jasper, so one of the perks of her Rank was probably her personal custom ship.

Or class ships are colored like the gems that use them, i mean, the Ruby ships where red.

Caved

It really emphasizes how top of the line our Jasper is when you see what a standard Jasper/Amethyst looks like. They're big and tough, but there's something about the way that our Jasper is drawn that makes her look significantly more brutal.

Seeing that Holly Blue is as big and tall as those full grown Amethyst guards while not exceeding Garnet's height, I think it's safe to say that our Jasper (who's roughly Rose's height) is much wider and taller than your average quartz soldier.
She really is the perfect quartz.
It really makes me wonder how Jasper was treated in Yellow Diamond's court pre-The Return/Jailbreak.
It's hard to imagine some stuck up agate abusing that intimidating, competent, and ruthless gem from season 1's finale. But YD did say that agates are made to terrify so it wouldn't be unprecedented.

.
Jasper's in a league of her own.

Leak spoilers!

Also why does Steven see through Blue Diamonds eyes.

Just throwing it out there: Rose had healing tears and most of her powers were seemingly rooted in her emotions just like they are for every other gem, in this case empathy. In a war where neither side was happy to be losing numbers, it might have been extremely OP for Rose to essentially steal the tears of enemy Gems in order to heal Crystal Gems. Just spitballing, though.

So
The Zoo is orbiting Saturn.

Speaking relatively on a universal scale, that's not very far.

I was interpreting that as
light-years, considering that tends to be the metric Pearl uses when talking about space travel. I thought the Zoo was a Gem installation located about 69-70 light years from Earth orbiting a nameless gas giant.

What would ever make you think Peridot has a higher rank than Jasper? Lol
Jasper was basically bossing Peridot around in the season 1 finale; yelling at her to fire weapons and completey diverting her from her original mission despite YD's orders.
Plus Too Far pretty much reveals that peridots are lower ranked than quartzes, even runts like Amethyst.
Besides (leak spoilers),
Peridot herself confirms that the ship colors are costimizable and she could make the ruby ship green if they wanted her to.
That's most likely why the hand ship was green. I'm honestly surprised Jasper didn't order her to make it orange and red.

:P

Yea it was nice seeing her seeing more of her kind and maybe realizing more that she's not as defective as she thought. Hopefully they appear again
Yep that should help her a lot, not being rejected in any way. Hope so too, wouldn't hurt the CGs to have more gems they could count on

Jasper had her standard aggressive, imposing demeanor, but precisely in the S1 finale Peridot states that Jasper was assigned to her in order to act as her bodyguard and ensure that Peridot's duties got done, in fact precisely when Jasper tells her to "just fire the canon" it wasn't an order to peridot, Peridot ordered Jasper to kill the gems because they were messing with her stuff, Jasper (disrespectful of Peridot) suggests to use the cannon instead, which kinda makes sense, as someone pointed out before, Jasper seems a bit not very keen on being assigned to YD, who she called her by name as opposed to "my diamond" (like everyone else refers to them).

I might need to watch the Peridot episodes again, but what i recall her saying was that Amethyst was the highest ranking gem among the crystal gems, and she considered herself a POW, so she addressed Amy as the ruling gem (because she was ignorant that Garnet had a Sapphire in her, which would outrank Amy and everyone else).

I've considered our Jasper to be kind of an anomaly similarly to how Spartans are treated in the Halo series - as more-or-less equivalent to a supersoldier in universe, she operates under the order of the Diamonds most of the time, but in significant situations during engagements or "wartime" she can operate with some level of autonomy, and/or even leadership depending on the gems she's working with. Discovering a group of rebels is one thing, but encountering Rose Quartz alive and well on a world that was thought to be a backwater purged of any Crystal Gems is a significant-enough development that would grant Jasper the authority to switch from a position of maintenance / security to an outright capture mission. I mean, think about it: encountering (what we know to be) the most notorious warfighting anti-Homeworld rebel in history would probably warrant an experienced veteran with field experience to be calling the shots over a maintenance worker / kindergartner.

Given that any post that isn't coated in black like a zebra includes some variation of the words "i caved in", im guessing it wont be a problem by friday.
Or they have no way to join the conversation :p

Not if they were shattered.

I don't know PSqueak, going by the awful way she treated Pearl I don't think Peri ever took her status as a prisoner into account; despite The situation she made sure to let the CGs know their place whenever the chance arose.
I feel like she would have treated Amethyst completely differently if she ranked higher than a full grown rare perfect quartz soldier like Jasper.

I could totally believe this.

Well, about the pearl thing, i keep getting the idea that pearls are considered less than a person and more like a thing, so i figure even as a prisoner Peridot would still see herself as more than Pearl because in her culture pearls are belongings, not people.

As for looking up to Amethyst, i think Peridot did say she wanted to make boons with who she perceived the highest gem among the CG, which again was Amy, so she prolly was lowering herself to score points with Amy.

This is mostly how i perceived the whole thing. What Sub-zero said also makes tons of sense.

Ok, so I looked up some stuff on other forums and I found out a probable reason why Cartoon Network would suddenly drop all five episodes online. They were planning to release one episode a week before airing through a See It First campaign on the Cartoon Network app (and probably website) for people who log in using a cable subscription. Releasing their content online before its actual TV airing is something that they're already going to do with the Adventure Time Islands mini-series in a few weeks.

The problem is that they must have accidentally scheduled ALL of the episodes for the same time last night.

It's fixed now; the only episode available on the app once you log-in is Steven's Dream. I just finished watching it myself using my cable subscription log-in and, sure enough, it has a "See It First" banner on it.

If they had advertised this thing, it would have been kind of neat, but now there's literally no way of doing it without pretending that they didn't accidentally release their entire bomb. I feel bad for the Crewniverse, but at least I can support the official release by watching Steven's Dream on the official app.

"Oh I wonder why the Steven Universe thread is so active..."

I'm already getting spoilers for the bomb
Like Lisa Hannigan's character

Wouldn't mind a link to the leaks so I can at least avoid more spoilers.

I enjoy the optimism in this thread, we finally get some new episodes (one way or another) and no one has come to the horrible realization that well.... we probably won't get any more episodes now until March or even later ... well that is unless someone at cartoon network hits the wrong button again.

Ah well,
this bomb was da bomb yo

I got into the fandom about one year ago with the Peridemption bomb in Jan. 2016 ending with Log Date 7 15 2.

The hiatus after...was one I don't want to relive again. I'd be happy with March but expecting April. This bomb technically finishes airing in the first days of February.

This was a good bomb. We got some good background info and
seeing all the other gems was a treat

One thing I noticed that might not be important
Yellow Diamond was wearing a different outfit. Did she regenerate or can diamonds simply maintain form changes without difficulty?

I assume
that there's actually a method of changing your light form that doesn't require you to be poofed by someone. After all, the Crystal Gems have never had any problem maintaining minor clothing changes. That's how I assumed the fit the attire of whatever era they were in.

No new episodes until November 9th unless there's another leak.

I only saw Steven's Dream, and I freaking adored it. Something about the area with the
palanquin was so beautiful, the ambience and the scenery was so pretty, you could feel that place and realize it was special.

Steven Bomb Spoilers Speculation:

That last shot makes me wonder what White and Pink Diamond's ships looked like for hand expression.
