Stig Asmussen, director of the ‘STAR WARS: JEDI’ games, has left EA.

Huge loss for EA, Stig's a talented guy and has an amazing track record, won't be nearly as excited for the third game in the Jedi series now.

Would love to see Stig at SSM working on the future GOW games.

Shame as I'm sure there's a third entry coming down the pipeline. Hopefully it'll land in good shape if so, and does better at launch regarding performance than Survivor did. Loved the game, but what a mess.

wouldn't be shocked if he ends up back at SMS, we've seen that before with other devs going back home to their OG studios

also obviously good luck to him, hope he lands somewhere great either way, GoW 3 is still a classic

And that's likely the reason he left, EA forcing them to release the game when it wasn't ready.
And who knows what talent they bled during the process as well. Since the first one was very well polished in comparison. Somewhere, their pipeline got messed up. Down to the non optional RTX which fubar'ed the rasterization pipe.

He coming home to Sony Santa Monica?
Let's hope, because the last two God of War games don't hold a candle to the originals.

We went from this epic sense of scale...

Weird. He said he envisioned Jedi as a trilogy. I guess the next game is probably cancelled.
Doubtful. The story was probably outlined even before the original game was completed. It's not difficult to find a game director to fill his role. All we can hope now is that the quality of execution on that vision doesn't degrade.

Probably got pissed EA forced his game out before it was done. That's one thing Sony doesn't do.

I heard an interview with him before JS came out and he said that they chose the release date in collaboration with EA and they were all comfortable with it. My guess is he stole Andrew Wilson's lunch from the fridge.

But the second picture shows something better. I care about why I'm fighting Baldur. I was just mindlessly murdering people in GOW3.

Both games have their place, but scale isn't everything. You can have grand moments in smaller, more personal battles.

Good. I hope he joins MS or Sony and develops GOW 3 sequel if he joins Sony again ( i don't think that's the case ) or inspired title like GOW3 if he joins MS.

just don't go fucking indie man. enough of that shit.

Sure you can, but not in a God of War game. They might as well have just created a new IP if changing the DNA of a franchise that was beloved for nearly two decades was the end game.

No. you actually do not know why you are fighting Baldur. you do not even know why you switched from Greek to Norse. and you do not know why you became a snowflake either to the point everyone stomps on you even your 7-year-old son or whatever that idiot age.

GoW 1 to 3 had a purpose. kill all the gods that made him suffer. and anyone stands in your way of achieving that goal as they were the reason he was tricked and blinded to kill his family. it can't get any better than that.

GOW 2018 and the new one are nothing but barely decent at their best. just hyped up to shit just like All Sony titles are. GOW 1 to 3 ( 3 especially ) is probably the best action game ever made.

My son is in that home and I've just buried my wife. I'm fighting him to protect all I have in the world.

On top of that, he seemingly knows more about me than I know of him, and he surprised me with superhuman strength and smacked me around harder than anyone else has in my life.

I care a damn sight more than when I fought Poseidon.

Not everything has to be anger and dudebro.

He was director of GoW 3 so I disagree that he's overrated

He inherited an incredibly talented team, the foundation, and framework which was left behind by Jaffe. He did fuck all for more than half a decade, then lands a blessed role with Respawn another talented dev house. As a director he hasn't really done anything new or interesting for me to appreciate.

It was still a God of War game. It carried its history with it and built on it. The DNA of God of War was not it's combat system. It was a character action game and that is what GOW 2018 was.

The gameplay that people came to love and expect from a God of War title for 13 years is not it's defining factor?

Todd Papy also inherited the same team and directed the weakest mainline game in the franchise (gameplay was great though) and Jaffe admitted they didn't use a lot of stuff he left behind.

Ascension wasn't a bad game either, it just failed to do anything new or interesting. I'm not saying Asmussen is a bad director, I just strongly feel he is way too overrated. I loved Fallen Order, but as a creative director he has no balls, that's my opinion. GoW III had a lot of the core GoW II staff and Asmussen was there as an Art Director prior to that. I feel he has always played it safe with designs, and that's really easy to do when you work with studios like SSM & Respawn.

Haven't played the most recent Jedi game, but the first was pretty weak imo. Never felt like a badass Jedi. Force powers were pretty weak.

I felt more like a "Jedi" in Control.
