Damn, so big studios of people closing down was part of Sony's plan all along? Brutal.
Sony is looking at 4d chess from the rear view mirror buddy, watch and learn.Damn, so big studios of people closing down was part of Sony's plan all along? Brutal.
How does this keep happening?
Who looks at that dude's resume and thinks "yup, this guy should be put in charge of our studio"? Dude worked 4.5 years on something, released nothing and is job hunting before literally any actual gameplay is shown. That is a massive red flag but these retards bring him in as creative director.
Cronyism, no doubt. There's just no other explanation.
Sony was totally scammed by these guys lol, won't be surprised if it was collaborative effort of Raymond and Hulst
What's the odds if it even gets a release?
I'm thinking 60/40 at this point and sinking
Well, there was some logic in Ryan's play. PlayStation's money maker is PS+, and it doesn't make any of the titles that reliably push the multiplayer subscription. Ryan himself said if COD went exclusive, PlayStation would never recover - it drives PS+ more than any other paid title by a wide margin. After spending over a decade dependent on other people to make their money for them, it was clear Microsoft's moves put the fear of God in to them. (Given that Microsoft's moves happened because Sony apparently tried to buy up literally every single major exclusive - including Starfield - at the start of the gen is more than a little ironic.)All this because of CoD. Retarded Sony is retarded.

Anyway, Sony's retardation comes from Ryan's attempt to push a square peg through a round hole. After Naughty Dog's huge success in the PS3 era, PlayStation shifted all of its studios into cinematic third person single player games, save for Polyphony Digital. By the time Ryan wanted his own Fortnite, they just weren't built to make that kind of game. But Ryan tried to force it anyway, and Sony's paying for it now. The result of his stupidity is PS5's back half is gonna be a fucking desert, and they've wasted close to a billion in dev costs and counting. And their one big GAAS success - Helldivers 2 - is made by a studio they don't even own whose next title isn't going to be a PS exclusive.
Thanks to Ryan, PS5 is gonna close out with a whimper, PS6 is gonna launch with a slate of cross-gen looking hand-me-downs, and Sony is left trying to clean up after Firewalk, Bungie, and Haven. Worst CEO they've ever had.

Jade Raymond was always shit, just fucked every studio she is working.
Maybe only fans is still a chance.
WB so desperate for a GaaS success that they're poaching directors which don't even release games.
It's in the thread title although I understand your confusion due to the missing "$".What Game were they working on ?
No game...no game at allWhat Game were they working on ?
The drop in popularity for metal music can be seen in game development and all society as well thanks to women and gayification. No, really. Game development used to be metal as fuck, throw some tits, throw some muscles in theres, offending someone? what the fuck is even that?? make a metal ass story about killing and stuff, action hero man/woman, done deal.
Nowadays tho? Can';t have that too risky, what do you mean show body skin you sexist pig? Cool metal characters what? No sir, that is offensive, characters need to look like real life depressed people, we do not play games to escape reality, no sir!!!!
The pussification of games in western society lead to this. Enjoy.
Pretty sure it's Montreal, Quebec, Canada.Viva la France
I will when I can properly understand your illiterate teenage dribble.Prove me wrong bitch.
I will when I can properly understand your illiterate teenage dribble.
The fact that in your adorable 1990s-style neanderthal diatribe, you claim that games now don't have "tits, muscles, action heroes nor killing" means you're not to be taken seriously. You can't cuz you have no idea what goes behind game development in big companies. I do. I'm an analyst. Theres not a single big corpo game company that doesnt have HR-like training sessions on what to avoid when designing characters, or what predominant color should be used as marketing such as purple, and what can be written and not among many other aspects.

Maybe that's the point.....
I ignore Cockatrice so no idea what he said. However, I think there is space and audience in the industry for both "tits, muscles, action heroes nor killing" games AND progressive ones. The fact that in your adorable 1990s-style neanderthal diatribe, you claim that games now don't have "tits, muscles, action heroes nor killing" means you're not to be taken seriously.

I'm relatively new here in a sense so not familiar with your thing, FWIW I'm not offended at all.How much of a negative iq one must have to insult me and get offended by an exaggerated shitpost? Lmao chill the fuck down bitch.
Of course, I agree. However, I think there is space and audience in the industry for both "tits, muscles, action heroes nor killing" games AND progressive ones.

They bought Bungie (one of the most successful console and PC GaaS and new AAA IP teams), an studio of ex-Bungie people and an studio of ex-Rainbow Six Siege, Assassin's Creed and other top Ubisoft (another of the most successful console and PC GaaS and new AAA IP teams) games.Sony is dumb as dog shit, stop blowing money on these studios and just outright buy one of the popular GaaS studio games - DayZ or whatever that PUBG shit is. Microsoft snatched Minecraft and Sony probably should have just taken one of the bigger chess pieces as well.
The acquisition was $2.4B to acquire the 100% of the comany, plus up to $1.2B in retention bonuses (at least some of them didn't achieve the condition to get their bonus, or at least their full bonus). You're forgetting about the Bungie buyout that cost Sony $3.6 billion dollars.
It would be retarded to sell Bungie, since they are generating them a lot of money directly and interectly. Plus now they'll also have Destiny Rising, Marathon and Gummy Bears, which pretty likely will generate them a big chunk of money. If Sony were to sell Bungie again, they'd get a fraction back of what they paid for that woke has-been studio. To be honest, once Marathon launches and goes down like a lead Zeppelin, selling Bungie is probably the only choice they have.
It's probably only a matter of time until they axe it. Maybe by the end of the year. Sony seems committed to salvaging Marathon so they should just focus on that IMO.This game's probably dead. It may not have been salvageable after all, sadly.
Just another GAAS down the toilet, I guess :/
Doesn't WB has shareholders to keep happy?Nepotism. Wokies are a strong lobby. No sane company would hire this incompetent after his last 8 years, but WB is more of the same. Then, they will act surprised when layoffs and cancelations happen.
My tag should've been an indication that I sometimes tend to exaggerate even when I like to speak my mind. All good, but seriously though, the stuff I've seen some developers have to go through, the validation process, is hell. Game development used to be simpler as in they didnt need to go through millions of validation processes. Game development hell is due to this and Im not saying ALL women are like this, but the majority of time, certain politically inclined liberal white women damaged a lot of game development in recent times, men as well because they're cucks for them. Theres a reason for the rise of AA and indies, they are almost free of these things. Social media is also another reason. Concord, even from haters around here, agreed that its gameplay loop with a bit of fixing could';ve been great, but everything else killed it. Trust me, men dont want to design and play as obese women. You know who glorify and approve of unhealthy aspects? Yep, other women. Call me crazy, but if you look closely youll notice the pattern. Overwatch was initially designed by horny men, who now were fired because of their sexism in the work place, presumably.I'm relatively new here in a sense so not familiar with your thing, FWIW I'm not offended at all.
More confused...
Amazing the damage that Ryan and Hulst have done but profits go up and Hulst is still there.
Ryan and Hermen achieved the top grossing PS generation, generating more profits than all previous generations combined, the largest active userbase any console brand ever had, and they doubled the first party games revenue, broke sales records with new titles released in 4 of the last 5 years plus won a gazillion awards.Anyway, Sony's retardation comes from Ryan's attempt to push a square peg through a round hole.

I like posts like these.I still think it's up for debate how much of this GAAS push was really on Ryan, vs. orders from the top he had to abide by.
Also, you're drinking the kool-aid on some of this, clearly. That rumor of SIE buying up "every single major exclusive" was always bullshit, and we know that now because...where ARE those major exclusives? It's only been some Square-Enix games, a couple of smaller Bethesda ones and...that's about it. Every, and I mean EVERY, other major 3P release from the start of the gen to now has been Day 1 multiplat on both PS and Xbox, and I don't think SIE would have suddenly cancelled exclusivity contracts in the wake of ABK (they'd stand more to lose than gain in that and likely end up paying more for early termination of such deals).
Street Fighter 6? Resident Evil 4 Remake? Monster Hunter Wilds? Silent Hill F? Baldur's Gate 3? Dead Space Remake? Tekken 8? AssCreed Shadows? Metaphor? All of these and many, many more could've been "major exclusive" (which would've had deals set in place back in 2019-2020, 2021-2022 latest) were somehow Day 1 on both PS and Xbox. The few exceptions, like Black Myth Wukong, skipped Xbox Day 1 because of Microsoft's idiotic parity clause between Series S & Series X, and the former being a pain in the ass to optimize those types of intensive games for. I always found that rumor suspect and a cover excuse for MS (and MS sycophants) to hide behind as a validation for purchasing Zenimax & ABK, and that hasn't changed to this day.
If you're implying SIE were trying to buy exclusivity on just Bethesda games and hence that's why MS bought Zenimax...it still isn't a good justification on MS's end. Nothing stopped them from bidding against SIE for exclusivity rights to those games, and it'd still have been far cheaper than what they paid out for Zenimax. MS buying Zenimax had nothing to do with SIE; it had to do with MS knowing the truth that most of their internal 1P were an utter mess for software development, and knew the smoke-and-mirrors they were selling with most of those trailers at the 2020 Xbox Showcase even before that showcase happened. They needed games that actually stood a chance of coming out (and on time), and needed them as exclusives. That's why they bought Zenimax.
Anyway back to SIE...it's easy to try blaming all the current problems on Jim Ryan, but that reads like Xbox fans who keep trying to blame Xbox's current woes (as a console) on Don Mattrick over 10 years later. It's a simplistic rationalization to the point of sounding ridiculous. Jim definitely made bad calls while running SIE; I'd say the biggest mistake was buying Bungie. All of the experience & knowledge they claimed the acquisition was for, could've been gained in a far less expensive partnership. The Bungie acquisition was 100% reaction to MS buying ABK (something MS didn't "need" to do BTW, and basically guaranteed their traditional strategy intended with Zenimax (via foreclosure on PlayStation) would be immediately negated, forcing them to go 3P due to associated costs), and Bungies BoD have made out like bandits due to it.
But there are other things, like the PC initiative, which I think were from higher-up, and Jim simply following orders. Either that, or he had a realization after retiring, because him admitting that PC is a competitor to PlayStation (which is true) was quite something after all this time. Also, it's not like Jim was making all the decisions himself: isn't it Herman who called Concord "his baby"? Isn't it Herman who wanted shorter window of ports to PC? Well, Herman's still there and still calling a lot of the shots, more than he did when working under Ryan. And now Totoki's a lot more involved, which could be a problem in several ways considering he's very much a fiscals guy to his very core. That hardcore of a fiscals focus making big decisions for a subsidiary steeped in an entertainment space, well it doesn't always tend to work out. It's an extreme example, but look back on Jack Trameil's time running Atari.
I guess my main point being...if you're laying all the blame for SIE's missteps this gen on Jim Ryan, you're ignoring the fact it takes entire teams to run operations as large as PlayStation. Jim Ryan was only part of the problem, not the problem in its entirety.
And I'll be frank, another part of the problem (a bigger part, actually) are the venture capitalists & short-term thinking shareholders/investors, almost all of whom are still present post-Jim Ryan. Who do you think applied pressure & influenced the Bungie purchase? The GAAS push as outlined back in 2022? The continuous price increases (by favoring less subsidization)? I'd blame them a lot more than Jim Ryan, personally.
