Stig Asmussen, director of the ‘STAR WARS: JEDI’ games, has left EA.

Let's hope, because the last two God of War games don't hold a candle to the originals.

We went from this epic sense of scale...

I love God of War 3, but even a non so epic God of War is more epic than 95% of games.

The gameplay that people came to love and expect from a God of War title for 13 years is not it's defining factor?
No. In fact it's combat system is widely regarded as inferior to competitors such as Devil May Cry.

It's setting, unique take on its chosen mythology and the character of Kratos himself was a far bigger draw.

And with GOW 2018 we got a fantastic new setting, another unique take on a different mythology and a lot of character growth for Kratos.

The combat system was different, and that was divisive. I personally preferred 2018s by a considerable margin.

Damn. Weren't these Star Wars games his baby? I wonder if Survivor underperformed, and they said no to a sequel?

He left sony when they cancelled his si-fi game right? I'd love to know what that was.
I think it was a game too close to Destiny, from what I recall.

He definitely didn't leave for commercial reasons. The game was a sales success.

Good. It would be nice to see him back at Sony.
Weird. He said he envisioned Jedi as a trilogy. I guess the next game is probably cancelled.
The thousands of people who worked in the other two can make the third without him. They can simply replace him.

My son is in that home and I've just buried my wife. I'm fighting him to protect all I have in the world.

On top of that, he seemingly knows more about me than I know of him, and he surprised me with superhuman strength and smacked me around harder than anyone else has in my life.

I care a damn sight more than when I fought Poseidon.

Not everything has to be anger and dudebro.
Million other games about saving someone. In fact probably all other games are about saving someone. God of war was the only one I remember in recent memory that stood up to me about destroying everything on his path. He is called god of war. Not the good surprised father.

As matter of fact god of war 2018 can have a different skin character, different name and it would have been true a new IP. The game has nothing to do with god of war. Not the 3d action camera, not the battels, not the story, not the gameplay. Chains of Olympus are an after thought add on in 2018 that has no purpose.

A true bad game to be called god of war. Yet decent enough for a new IP release

The industry has moved so much away from "anger" and "dudebro" that those concepts have become a breath of fresh air again.

I'm always amazed that much of the same crowd that belies current PlayStation single player first parties as "movie games" reveres God of War pre-2018. Second rate character action games (not a popular genre) whose best claim to fame even now is spectacle.

Do you actually remember what the game mechanics were for that Poseidon fight?

Well shit. Assuming that a third Jedi game will ever see the light of day now (so much for Stig's vision of doing it as a trilogy), I'll be much more skeptical about it. I actually doubt that it will be made at all now because if he wanted to do a third game, then maybe the reason he left was that they pulled the plug on it or made some retarded demands, like shoving in forced multiplayer or MTX (a'la Dead Space 3) and he just said "fuck this" and walked.

From every indication, Respawn has significant creative and release date freedom at EA, so all that talk about EA forcing them to release the most recent Star Wars game ahead of schedule is probably nonsense.

It's like how everyone blamed EA for the titanfall 2 release date only for the info to come out later that it was Respawn's choice.

Either way, they'll certainly miss him.

Jedi Survivor is goat tier star wars if only it was released as smooth as last of us 2. Made me a fan again that Im watching Rebels now.

Very talented dude.

I hope Sony poached him and got him his own team / studio. He'd be a great fit for modern-day Sony, and vice versa.

Seems to me that EA just put up with his "choices" a little less than Sony did.
SSM canning a project and laying off it's team four years deep was always a gigantic red flag regarding this guy.

You've clearly not played the game if you don't think the story is carried forward.

Who wants to bet the next Star Wars Jedi game will come out a lot more polished with this guy gone. The people who want Sony to build an entire new studio around this guy are insane. Hey might have good creative ideas, but he clearly mismanaged the development of those games. EA even offered to give his last game another delay and he refused and shipped Jedi survivor in an awful state.

Hope he comes back to Sony and this project is resurrected; especially now that Destiny has gone to shit.
