Stillmatic > Illmatic

I can't be the only one who thinks this. Yes, Nas is a spotty rapper. Yes, he makes more crap than good. But Stillmatic is one of his 3 great CDs (the other 2 being Illmatic, of course, and The Lost Tapes... It Was Written was good but a very mixed bag). I personally think Stillmatic is his absolute best. It's a lot more complex than Illmatic. Plus it has Ether, You're the man, and One Mic! Beat wise, I'd have to give it to Illmatic. But it's close!

Ok, since Junior Member status is only brought up when a junior says something stupid... what did I say? And what would you have replied with if I was a "Member"? Your opinion on the topic is what I'm looking for.

Looks like skinny agrees. Yes!!

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
Stillmatic was decent, but plagued by inconsistancy. I only really fucked w/ Rewind, 2nd Childhood... *checks iTunes*

Yup, that's it.

The good songs were so much better than the not so good songs.

Illmatic, It Was Written and God's Son = Nas @ his best.

I Am, Nastradamus, Stillmatic = Nas trying to re-establish himself.

Make sure to check out God's Stepson by 9th Wonder. Remixed the entire album.

I'll go on record and say that Illmatic is an overrated album...somewhat, mainly due to its length or lack there of. The album is only 9 songs deep (10 tracks, one is an interlude). That's barely an album.

But, at least they re-released it though... Has some nice bonus tracks, although I'm amazed that he didn't put on the proper 'World is Yours Remix' produced by Q-Tip from ATCQ, which 'til this days is one of the best remixes ever IMO.

I'll pretend I didn't just fucking see that. I Am is not only one of his best albums, but one of the best albums of all godamned time. No way that it should be lumped with Stillmatic or Nastradamus.

Stillmatic was alright. Only songs I still listen to on it are You're the Man, and One Mic (liked them before the radio picked them up, thanks). Nastradamus is GARBAGE. You Owe Me and Last Words were the ONLY good songs on it. Last Words is a fantastic song, IMO.

Hmm. It Was Written? Really? The Message, I Gave You Power, Affirmitive Action, Shootouts, and If I Ruled the World were all great songs. But too often on the album Nas seemed to be fumbling for rhymes. I can just picture him hovering over his notepad with a strained look on his face, "What can I rhyme with 'then they came'? Something clever and not too obvious... umm... fuck it, I'll just rhyme 'came' with 'name'. Much of his lyrics just sound forced. That wouldn't be all too bad though, except for the fact that these lyrics screwed up his flow. That's why I don't consider it to be that great of an album. It is good, though.

Stillmatic was his most consistent, IMO. His flow was perfect, and his rhyme schemes were more complex than they had ever been. Nearly every song on the album was great... the intro, Ether, Got Yourself A Gun, You're the Man, Rewind, One Mic, 2nd Childhood, Destroy and Rebuild, and The Flyest. Now that I think about it, ESPECIALLY The Flyest. That song is pure gold. And for some reason, You're the Man stirs some deep emotions in me... very dramatic track IMO. It's mostly due to the beat, though. Nas' flow perfectly compliments it.

I will say that I think of Stillmatic as being one of the greatest rap albums I've ever heard. Not sure where it would place, though. I just know my #1 of all time is Makavelli. Nobody beats 2Pac in my book (as far as rap is concerned, anyway).

Ugh. I Am is Nas' 2nd worst album IMO (just ahead of Nastradamus). The only good tracks are Hate Me Now, that one with Scarface, and the closer one where he kills his cheating wife. Remember that fumbling for rhymes I was talking about in It Was Written? I Am has it in fucking spades. The Biggie/2Pac tribute is almost enough to make me gag.

"Will we ever see another MC as nice/ Will you return to us like the ressurection of Christ"

*shudder*

I'm glad that somebody can enjoy it, though.

Couple things... Written in Blood, Suspect Ni**as... The whole 'It Was Written' was heat homie... Especially compared to that ultra-contrived 'me-too' garbage called I Am. Dr. Knockboots, You Won't See Me Tonite... Steaming piles of sh!t. Again, Nas was trying too hard to conform to the current state of hip hop. He starts to buck the trend w/ Stillmatic (even though that had way too much mediocrity on it), and continued to follow thru w/ God's Son.

'I Am' :lol

the problem with nas is, his albums, of late, have been plagued with inconsistent production, offering certified bangers mixed amidst tracks that immediately send one lunging for the ff button.

Are you insane? You Won't See Me Tonight was good for what it was supposed to be, Dr. Knockboot I'll give you, as well as We Will Survive, but Undying Love, Big Things, Life is What You Make It, Nas Is Like, Small World, Money Is My Bitch, K-I-S-S-I-N-G, all great songs.

I agree Nastradamus was a piece of shit, but to lump the two in the same category? Puh-lease.
