Sting will reopen the Bataclan concert hall today, as mourners prepare to mark one year since the Paris terrorist attacks.

The former Police frontman, 65, will take to the stage at the 150-year-old venue, in a fashionable district of the French capital, where 89 people were killed on November 13 last year.

Islamic extremist suicide bombers stormed into the concert hall as US rock band Eagles Of Death Metal performed, while attackers also targeted cafes and the Stade de France. In total 130 people died, including Briton Nick Alexander.

Mr Alexander had been on tour with the American band selling merchandise, and tried to play dead when he was approached by one of the gunmen who opened fire.

Sting said: "In re-opening the Bataclan, we have two important tasks to reconcile. First, to remember and honour those who lost their lives in the attack a year ago, and second, to celebrate the life and the music that this historic theatre represents.

"In doing so we hope to respect the memory as well as the life-affirming spirit of those who fell. We shall not forget them."

All revenue from the show will be donated to Life For Paris and 13 Novembre: Fraternite Verite.

The Bataclan will play host to two gigs by Libertines frontman Pete Doherty, on November 16 and 17, while Senegalese singer Youssou N'Dour will play on November 18 and 19.

Awesome. That was one of the most horrifying nights I can recall. I hope EoDM return to this venue as well.

I'm happy the place is still in operation. Can't let terorism win.

Hoping for one last EoDM appearance, maybe even with Homme. Sting seems like the right act to reopen and honor the place and the many lost, I really can't think of many modern performers who could do this gracefully.

I am very glad they'll open again but some EoDM statement were really disgusting and raised a lot of criticism in France.

“I saw Muslims celebrating in the street during the attack. I saw it with my own eyes. In real time! How did they know what was going on? There must have been coordination,” Mr. Hughes said.

So i don't know if it will happens.

Yeah I doubt EoDM will be welcome at the Bataclan ever again. Sadly they are among the kind of people who say foolish things like the ones Golden_Pigeon quoted. They also said that an Arab once stared at them and that he must have been "jealous of America" or something really stupid like that.

Man, it's been a year already...
I remember my mom calling me cause I was in Paris that night. Stumbled across my sister at the station on my way back home, she was supposed to go to the concert at first but she had to work late that day. Thank god.
Came back home and couldn't believe what was going on.

Their music might be cool but they're idiots, some of their comments after this tragedy were really insulting as a French person, so no thanks.

Fuck you for turning the murder of innocent young people into a joke.

Disgusting.

It doesn't come across as mean-spirited to me.

There is a theory that the function of humour is to ease pain. Humour is a common human reaction to deal with tragedy. Making tragedy into (tasteful) humour shouldn't be a taboo if it's part of our collective coping mechanism.

I like and respect Josh and Jesse as musicians, but any sympathy I had for them after the attack is long gone.

On-topic though, I thought Sting had retired.

Bataclan didn't let the members of EoDM getting into the show:

Kind of harsh but totally understandable.

About the joke of Unlucky Kate, i am french and was greatly affected by the terrorist attack, and i am not offended at all.

I didn't attend this concert because I'm not a huge fan of Sting, but I do actually plan to return to the Bataclan sometime. Probably for Nada Surf's concert on December 2nd. I saw Oasis there back in 2008.
