Stranger Things S5 trailer leak

No one has staged an intervention for anorexia girl yet? She looks like she's on death's door.

It's been a while since I've watched Season 4, but man, the quality at display here is deadful. I don't remember other seasons being this bad.

Dialogue and directing are bad. Every character acts like a parody of themselves, exposition is poorly delivered, CGI is bad and everything is so corny.

Maybe I still cant get over the fact they are adults playing as children? Probably. But I remember previous seasons being way better made compared to this.

Natalie Dyer, this is her in 2018 around age 23

she is just a very very very thin girl, and has been for a long long time. Up close in the show her hair and skin don't look great (though I think a lot of the cast are using wigs at this point).

She can glam up a bit though....

but damn, thats gotta be like pounding a sack full of dry sticks, every thrust there is an ominous 'crack'.

3 episodes in and...this is absolute dogshit...

Zero atmosphere, TEEEERRIIIBBBLEEE performances from the "kids" (black kid especially can't act to save his life), exposition drops everywhere and the general writing has taken a nosedive if that's even possible - take Thurman's kid for example, she has turned from a geeky kid from the previous seasons to fucking claptrap from Borderlands, "LOOK AT MY CHARACTER, IM SOOOO QUIRKY HERP DERP" kind of thing, I'm getting ADHD just by watching her "perform", this has become Marvel-type of brainrot, it's not funny, it's not cute, just annoying...

Buggest problem IMO though is that the show just lost its shine, what once was "cool" due to the retro, 80s Spielberg nostalgia now feels not only unoriginal but...played out and cliché, and the 2 year hiatuses didn't help things.

Looks horrible, it's literally actors in front of a green screen 90% of the time, the kids can't act, the writing has become even worse and generally speaking, it doesn't look, sound nor feel "original" anymore and IMO many viewers now feel disenchanted by the whole thing (judging by forums/reddit - me included).

It's digital screen barf, this will end like a wet fart and it's kind of a shame.

Bailed out twice already on ep1. Don't think I'm going to make it through this season. Just very lame and tedious. Not sure what the hook even is anymore, don't care about any of these plot lines or characters. They sort of but not really defeated Vecna already last time, but this time it's gonna be for good. Ok, great.

All the relationships are established and static now. The bad guy is a known quantity. The upside down has no mystery. Why are we here?

Not started season 5 yet but I felt season 4 ended well enough to leave the rest up to the imagination, it's been soo long since then that people have probably thought up betters endings than this season will have.

My feelings exactly.
I'm forcing myself to watch and so tempted to fast forward the episodes.
I guess I want closure after recently rewatching the previous seasons.

Not feeling it at all.

Unless I'm missing something, the end of Season 4 had the 'upside down' invade Hawkins with those giant monsters which looked like something from Cloverfield... but now ... gone. Hawkins quarantined with a little army base which has like 25 troops. Fast forward *SPOILERS* to episode 4 and those troops cant even kill the flowerhead monsters... so how did they get rid of the big ones?

Also, far too many characters and plots going on, either getting confusing or just dragging.

Seems the same with any TV show though, start well with a good premise then get more convoluted & bloated as each season progresses.

Eh maybe I went in with low expectations but I enjoyed the 4 episodes I saw.

Steve is my favorite character. And the scene where he picks up a chain saw evil dead style had me pretty hyped! Unfortunately it did not lead to the pay off I was hoping for. But I still enjoyed seeing it.

The big reveal at the end of episode 4
the character the military is hiding in the vault. Its the indian girl from season 2. But she is shaved bald and I had no clue who she was first. Looked like some asian boy. Man season 2 feels like 10 years ago at this point.

It was just a teared up road and the town looked fucked up but there were no large monsters ala The Mist

The final ep is screening in a theater in my town, NYE and day. I'm fairly 'meh' on this season but the wife wants to go. How TF do you get a sitter on NYD????

Absolutely loved the first four episodes of season 5. I'm reading a lot of bad reviews on this forum. All good (everyone has their own view) but for those who haven't watched, do be swayed. I've been a day one STs guy and this show continues to deliver.

I dunno, the decision to have soldiers stand in a circle and fire full auto at a demigorgon in the center....ill advised to say the least :P

There are SO MANY better ways to have trained soldiers act in a tactical manner (remember, mid-80's combat units, especially elite units like you would imagine as being used here, were full of vietnam vets in higher leadership positions) against a foe than the "ring of death" where half these idjiots would be shooting the other half across the circle.

So there doesn't seem to be a lot of intelligence and though to the government actions, and that really devalues them as a credible threat. The demigorgons ranging from semi-inept to be unable to catch a single kid inside a house to then being able to ravage entire squads also makes the threat ambiguous at best. These are easy problems to detect in the writing room and should have raised some flags about the show. Either have various classes of demigorgon or at least try to make them more consistent in capabilities. The background lore of the show keeps taking hits because they just make shit up all the time, there is not a lot of internal consistency.

Plus the acting is wretched to merely passable. Half the cast shouldn't get these jobs had they auditioned for their own role now. MBB is probably the worst, she's the semi-anchor of the show and she can barely finish a scene.

I have watched 2 episodes so far and part of the issue is the delay between season make you no longer have any interest. Also you forget everything going on.

Lifeless so far.

Its pushing way too hard with "The Message" : we're heading off to save some children from the impending apocalypse and we'll be in immense danger. On the way lets chat about how great it is to be gay!

It makes it feel like a relic of a time thats rapidly dying in hollywood. Most likely one of the major downsides of a 3 year development cycle is that they didn't predict such a big change in the cultural landscape.

I barely got through the first episode. There's just no hook except for "you have watched the previous 4 seasons so you should just finish it". The creators are just on autopilot right now.

Edit: Ozempic is a curse.

I'd rather just attribute good old fashioned cocaine and bulemia/anorexia, as she was wisp thin waaaaaay before ozempic hit the mainstream.

I am curious how long it will before there are ZERO fat actors again. Two years....3? Even the massive gordos should be able to achieve clearly visible results in 6-12 months. Obesity about to be relegated to character actors and fat jokes again.....

Man, other than Will actor, the girls look like they're aging terribly. Though I'm sure fatigue is part of it here. Or is it...
Really, none of this cast has much star power. David Harbor is ok in some roles (Red Guardian at least he seems to be having fun) but Wynona's best years seem to be behind her, MBB looks good but isn't blowing doors down with her acting, the rest are flash in the pan types as they were hired as kids and that's always a crap shoot as to their real talent/interest. The seasonal bad guys seem to get the most traction.

I'm curious if we do get a time skip, seeing how ep4 ended I can't imagine we will till maybe the last ep.

Watched the four episodes. Enjoyed it more than most on here it seems, but it's not great. Spending so much time on two of the most boring characters, Robin and Will, sucks but I'm sure it's because of the big "reveal" about Will in the second half of the season. The demogorgons seem a lot more powerful now, opening portals wherever and withstanding damn near everything thrown at them. Seem to have unlimited speed too. Everyone in the first season would be dead going against these demogorgons.

Kind of a dull season so far and not a fan of Will getting powers and 8 coming back. I was hoping that the gates being opened would have been a bigger deal turning Hawkins into something where the regular populace was actually seeing the effects of the upside down regularly but they just handwaved that potential new status quo away instead.

Yeah, I hate when shows/movies do shit like this. Show something right at the end then just hand waive it away with the next season/sequel.

I think it's solid so far. Seen 3 episodes. It's more of the same. I just don't like what they did to Dustin. Dude was the best character for the longest time, then turned him into a boring goblin. WTF kind of looks are those?

They are running with that DnD concept so hard, I'm half expecting some big rolling boulders at some point that act like dice.

"Natural 20 Vecna, eat shit!"

It's not BAD, but it's really not good. Totally lost the charm and is becoming a paint-by-numbers story.

I'll begrudgingly keep watching cuz I want closure, but don't blame anyone for noping out.

Since Jim Hopper is the name of the soldier who goes missing in the og Predator, I hope the season ends with Hopper saying he's going on a special mission on a remote island. Would be a nice touch.

The set pieces and décor were so obviously staged that I checked out almost immediately

It's like, "Alright, you've seen this beat, now here's the next one." A full paint-by-numbers plot. It's obvious this is a manufactured product, not something made with any real passion

Watched the first ep yesterday. Felt like it's forced somehow? Couldn't give my full attention to it after a few minutes. The only thing I "liked" is how physically speaking the kids have grown up. That's about the only detail I truly noticed.
Why look for Vecna if he's assumed dead? I don't get it, really. This episode, and problably the season, is just here to make a bit more buck.

Given the title of the show, nothing strange/weird/mysterious happens they need to uncover. Maybe it will come into player in ep 2 or 3, but if it's only a search for Vecna and one more final showdown, it's kinda missing the point.

Based on Season 4's ending with the land cracking open I thought 'oh this is cool we're just going to see the military and Eleven fight monsters next season in a big war to finish the fight with Vecna'…then in the first 20ish minutes of episode 1 they explain that the hole was patched…yeah.

I'll keep watching though to see where this goes.

My main issue is having to pretend that some of these mid 20s and 30 year olds are still in late high school and college. Some of them just have faces that suit their real life age, regardless of added bangs or whatever teenager-style clothing that's added.

The show has run it's course. But I still think episode 4 ended on a pretty decent cliffhanger.

As someone who only recently finished season 4 the other day, I might as well see through the rest of it. Can't go this far and not finish the final season.

I enjoyed 4.

Season 5 first episode was weak.

I am now 4 episodes in on series 5 and while it seems a bit mixed up, its ok. I will finish it to see where this ends up!

Forced myself to finish episode 2, and ended up bailing out 10 mins into episode 3. This is not for me.

This season is really one long finale episode -- the "conclusion" to Season 4. Look at it that way, and it's not so bad. But, you're right: It doesn't have the weight or mystery, for lack of a better word, of the other seasons. But, I don't think it's supposed to.

I've watched 2 episodes -- not sure when I'll get to the other two.
