Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition: Free update arcade mode & more; $40 game+DLC bundle

Yeah GGXrd unfortunately suffers from anime-style animation that I don't like. Frame skipping doesn't look good to me.

I like Raven's stuff because it seems less noticeable.

Can't say I'm a fan of it either. I understand why they do it, but I still don't like it. It doesn't work as well for video games as it does for animation.

Isn't this what many GOTY versions do? DLC codes for post-launch support.

I can't speak for current-gen GOTY editions since I haven't bought a single one on console so far, but last generation most of the ones I owned had a second disc with all the DLC on it, at least on 360 (I assume on PS3 it all came on one disc because of blu-ray).

In fact, it made it super easy among my friends to share DLC; just borrow the extra disc, download the content from it, and you're golden. I assume that's part of the reason most GOTY editions these days are codes instead.

People are dissing the SFV animations???? What the heck is wrong with y'all! It's the best I've seen!

While I didn't mind the missing Arcade mode, the launch back then was more than disappointing.
As an SF fan it's just natural you want it to be best. It should be THE fighting game that should put forth the most effort to eclipse others.

AE seems to be a good effort so far.
But I'm still worried about the possibility of lacking in-game CPT Esports support, giving it more visibility. There are a lot of things they could do like CPT footage in attract mode, a "road to CPT" world tour mode, direct links to tournament footage, CPT tab in CFN, etc.

It being the most popular fighter, that would be nice, but as long as SF could and sometimes has coasted on it's brand power and hold on the FGC, it really doesn't have to. As more of an SNK fan, but still a fan of nearly all fighters, Capcom especially, competition is good. It'd be great if some mindshare moved away to other fighters because they were doing something really right instead of Capcom fumbling.

Oh right, unless anyone hasn't posted it yet, but the characters are product codes as per the Japanese site.

They are not on the disc (not that it matters since games don't even use the disc anymore).

Your season 1 and 2 characters for AE purchasers are still tied to a CFN account so reselling the AE disc would just be the vanilla disc but with all the patches (and probably the shadow falls story mode) on disc to install.

The game doesn't play off the disc, why does it matter?

These guys beat me to my responses mostly.

Oh...well fuck that, will buy when extremely cheap to have the codes, since I already have the game.

I wanted to have the characters on disc for the preservation aspect of it

Just like every PS4 game, but it doesn't stop me from wanting the content I paid for to be included on the disc. For me it's about preservation and not relying on a third party (Capcom in this case) to play a game I've paid for. This also hinders my ability to potentially sell, trade or lend the game to someone that may appreciate it more than I do.

I'm quite lenient when it comes to an online-only multiplayer game like Overwatch doing something like this, in fact I buy most of those digitally already. The difference here is that Street Fighter is a 1v1 fighter. These games do not require online to be enjoyable as they are equally enjoyable offline with friends. Heck, we still play many of the SF games from decade or two ago. That's why it's disappointing to me that Street Fighter V relies on having an account to unlock characters that should be already unlocked and on the disc.

Granted, I'm sure, or I really hope that by the end of V there'll be a disc with everything on it, or most of it like with Ultra for IV, but I hate that I can't be certain, as I hate that this is now a trend, where not everything can physically be on a disc due to a publisher's intent for a game.

Isn't this what many GOTY versions do? DLC codes for post-launch support.

Would be lovely if this wasn't the case.

Unfortunate. Guess I still won't bother with Street Fighter V. It makes no sense why the characters couldn't be included on the disc.

I was hoping they would be but it really doesn't matter because it gets an 8ish GB patch each month. If you wanted them on disc to be able to resell later, then yea i see where you're coming from. But even as someone who loves buying everything physical and wanting everything on disc, for this specific game it makes no sense. kind of like Overwatch.

It doesn't sound very convenient ta buy a game with the promise of stuff included, get the game, turn it on, an find said stuff not there. Then go through hoops to actually get it >_<

But did I mean convenience for the consumer? :p

I think it looks inferior because, as demonstrated by the gif above of Dhalsim, it does.

That's not to discount what arcsys have done, GGXRD is a tremendous achievement and surely a bar for anime styled games going forward, but the animation in SFV is more tremendous, and conveys a fantastic sense of motion and impact.

they're both great. and we're comparing between #1 and #2, best in class tbh, a pretty stupid debate when injustice still moves the way it does.

man i wish all these arc fanboys were around to stop GGXX fading into obscurity back when

Dude I was too young then lol. Plus like I said it really comes down to personal preference.

You mean like this?

sghY50y.gif

No you silly goose, I mean like this:

Of the twelve or so principles of animation, Squash and stretch was always my favorite. I just loved how much you could communicate in a single frame, and how strong the hits would feel if you have a few frames of start up, a really good smear/stretch and then the last few frames. 3d animation in games never made it looked good until GGXRD came to town and That's why I love it so much.

Also, according to this screen, Ryu's second V-Trigger is called 確固不抜 (Kakkofubatsu), which roughly translates to determined or steadfast.
This makes assumptions that it is gonna be a focus attack even more probable. That's kinda like Alex's VT but with armor instead of parries.

I actually much prefer SFV to Xrd (the latter is too close to being an illegible mess in motion to an old fogey like me), I just have a ton of respect for what they've done in terms of animation. The first time they showed Xrd and that little "Unreal Engine" logo appeared on it people were flabbergasted.

I'm not actually really that into Guilty Gear in a more general sense.

I also have a lot of respect for everything in SFV that isn't Ken.

Don't think anyone has posted these yet. More V-II teasers.

Looks like Rashid is getting a powered up fireball and Dictator is getting an AOE alike Dhalsim?

This looks awesome. Not sure if I'll double dip, but I'm ready for some arcade action. It's awesome that they have several different arcade arcs to work through. I wonder how long each of them will be?

That slash effect on Xrd looks hideous to be honest.

Actually that gif is a perfect example. I know what you mean but Dhalsim's dash and throw are exaggerated to show speed and weight. Honestly, SF3 might even be better animated than Xrd; because that game is amazing. With GGXrd (and now DBFZ), its been ASW's ability to translate 2D style animation to 3D that's simply amazing. GG has always been about showing the speed of attack by, ironically, removing animation.

So basically you could pay 40 for this or pay half the price for the base version and still get everything for free barring you have enough fight money.

Yes, except for the premium costumes that release for the DLC characters. They are bundled with the characters in the season passes (both of which are included in SFV:AE).

40 bucks for AE game is probably the best deal. You get 12 dlc characters and the premium costumes.. Fight money grind can take a while unless you keep at it in ranked and the daily missions.

That said, if you do buy the Arcade Edition you can get a ridiculous amount of Fight Money at this point just doing all the individual character stories, training, etc.

It's a pretty good jump-in point if you want to pay once and be reasonably comfortable just unlocking new characters with FM from here on.

Jett is a fanboy

And Taylerob is a shit poster.

Let's be real, you're the same shit but not he other side. Nah you're oven worse, at least Jett is provided actually providing agruments.

Fuck outta here, garbage ass poster. You like to call people out but you hate and drive by shit post like since you're on the other side it makes you cool or some shit. Nah you're the same goon as lonedragon.

I would wait for AE because your gonna get an insane amount of Fight Money. You could potentially get 3 seasons worth of future DLC Characters for Free.

Yep, between easy survival mode, characters stories and demonstrations you could easily get enough for at least three characters in a couple of hours.

The premium costumes are not included in AE as per Capcom's current wording.

The code included in AE is probably just to unlock the characters and that's it.

They are not going to give up the 12 premium costumes or default colors 3-10 in addition to Guile stage for free. If Capcom can nickle and dime you, you bet your ass they will.

Check Bornfree's Twitter. NYCC promo card for AE explicitly says the character passes are included, with 12 characters and 12 costumes.

Well in that case then this is basically identical to the same package that they've been selling on PSN and Steam for months now. :P

I'm not sure it's that high lol, but easily a season worth for sure. If you buy the game in the coming weeks, you can get 80K FM for completing story mode on normal and hard. Probably 40K for the demonstrations and 56K for completing survival on easy with each character. The individual stories for each character net around 10K so it's close to 280K more. Grinding survival on normal is a timesink with 28 characters, but it will net 140K. Trials will add up over 50K easily. There's more than enough for a season worth of characters, but the limit is close to 1000 000 FM as survival hard and hell is maddening and not worth it. :p

It's happening in SFV because you can grind enough FM to buy nearly all of the characters. That's a lot of potential money lost for Capcom, so they want the maximum amount of control over how much FM you can earn. If we look at every other FH, how many of them can allow you to earn DLC characters without paying actual money?

SFV draw far more inspiration from persistent online games such as DOTA 2 and League of Legends than your traditional FG (and those are pure multiplayer and you grind out ingame currency to "purchase" new characters.

I guess this is fine if you play Street Fighter as an e-sport, but I believe the vast majority of Street Fighter players loved the pick up and play aspect of local co-op at the arcade and the home.

It's a funky experiment to apply the grinding system of games built around economies of leveling and item collection to a game where all the characters are static.

And in that sense it's a really hard game to love. In lieu of players becoming absolutely committed to the game to grind and unlock content, you have a very very very expensive game.

It's basically the digital SFV 2017 deluxe edition, but in a physical package for those seeking to own a disc (as the digital deluxe version will just be renamed the arcade edition).

It's been cheaper to buy SFV and season passes than it was buying SFIV revisions, GGXrd revisions, BB revisions, etc though

Do I get the costumes and season characters for free too?
I rather give away my first copy to a friend and buy this one if they arent gonna be free.
You'll get every DLC character up to that point (except Sagat, who'll likely launch alongside this) and all of their Battle Outfits for free. You'll also get Guile's stage as a bonus.

All other costumes and stages will not be included and will still have to be bought or earned.

Yeah characters are one thing, but there's a way higher and unequally distributed amount of costumes, and stages are expensive.

Yah he’s been shitposting since way earlier in the thread

This is just the same game with dlc codes bundled in. It'll just be the disc with all the patches up until its release and likely the Shadow Falls Story Mode dlc.

The season pass content that's bundled is not on the disc.

True, the game is potentially more expensive than any other before if you buy everything. On the other hand, SFV will also be the mainline game with the most amount of content and stages. USFIV had the biggest roster (44) and about 27 stages, but SFV will possibly be at 34 characters and 30+ stages next year. That's a lot in 2 and a half year when SFIV needed 5 years to amass the content it got (some of it straight up recycled from SFxT lol).

I understand why people are bummed about not having the DLC characters on the disc.

1) need internet if playibg on someone else's system

2) makes buying it used worthless

But for new players unconcerned about these things the unspoken bonis here is getting all 12 Battle costumes and Guile's stages, which we did not know would be included. That's a great deal if that stuff interests you.

People are dissing the SFV animations???? What the heck is wrong with y'all! It's the best I've seen!

Yeah, I can understand not liking the art style or how the models look but the animations are fantastic. It's between SFV and GGXrd for best animations in fighting games this gen and they do things pretty diffetently, which is cool.

If arcade was release version I wonder how well sfv would have sold.... probably surpassed all of sfiv put together.

If this was the version of the game they launched with, even minus the 12 DLC characters, I think the game would have sold exceptionally. SFV actually had strong opening sales but word of mouth and review criticsim of the anemic content killed its legs.

The initial sales report in May 2016 was 1.4 million which was 3 months after launch. August 2017 they reported 1.7 million. So it took over a year to sell another 300k copies.

Seems like just the revitalization SFV needed.

I didn't have a good PC or a PS4 when SFV came out but even if I did I would have skipped it. Now that I've had a PS4 a few months I'd been wondering if SFV was going to get a new edition considering there are so many DLC characters now, and I dont wanna fork over too much for all the ones I'm interested in.

Thank you Capcom.
Also SFV fans, is Juri good in this game? I tried to main her to the best of my abilities in IV.
