I think they are more pissed off when there is no way for them to see what's actually going on. Some understanding is much better than 'wait, why doesn't my kick reach?', especially when you add the opponents wonky hit box into the mix as well.

I remember with ssf2:T there was a Japanese guide book called 'yoga book hyper', with hit box pictures on pretty much all attack sprites for all characters, that was a real eye opener. And later on you could get a hit box plugin for Emulated ST.

If they really want this to be beginner friendly, letting the user see behind the curtain will let them figure out how the game is meant to be played much faster. It seems they are adding quite a bit to training mode with different recording actions etc. hit boxes and frame data should be the next step.

And I guess vita SFxT shows it's a possibility at least.

Yeah, I can deal with an excessively large empty space in front of a character's foot doing damage. I can't abide a character throwing a punch but the elbow to the shoulder being the only area that does damage.

Another thing, if i buy the game on Steam and play the beta this next weekend, does that count towards the 2 hours playtime limit to ask for a refound?

I have 30€ on my Steam wallet just laying around....

Anyone here have experience preordering the PC version from GreenManGaming? The GMG page mentions getting beta access but doesn't offer details and I'm curious how that works, since they usually don't send keys out until days before games actually release.

Sent me out a key instantly.

I wonder if SFV is going to take off as an esport. It'll be interesting to see how Sony pushes it as a product for the Twitch community.

I successfully refunded after the last beta. At first it was denied and then I sent a support ticket on steam and it was refunded. That's with 10 hours played in the last beta. The only reason I refunded it in the first place was to see if it was possible.

You think so? SF5 is launching into a world where esports are significantly bigger than what SF4 launched into.

USF IV players will play SF V for the most part (+ some new players I guess) and Capcom will still stream all CPT (just with more money this time)
It will be bigger I guess, but not much

Given that Capcom seemingly wanted to tone down input complexity in SFV, the audience could significantly widen.

I think SFV will be bigger than SFIV, but I sincerely doubt that it will compete with the big guns of esports. Fighting games are always going to have a tremendous barrier of entry. As much as they are trying to lower that, it is never going to be something that you can just jump into.

Nope, I got a refund after 18 hours of the first PC beta.

Bought the game again though, because I'm an idiot.

SFV will be way bigger than SF4 unless they reaaaally fuck something up at the last minute. Better business model + unified userbase with day 1 PC + worldwide release free of region favoratism + FGC being the biggest it's ever been = will be significantly more successful than its predecessor. If they're smart and offer a F2P version later down the line, game could really blow up.

Can't blame your loss on teammates either. As sad as that is, I think that mentality keeps people playing Mobas instead of getting frustrated and leaving.

Well some people also like being more support roles, then always expecting to be on point. This is more towards team FPSes like TF2.

This isn't a necessity. All it needs to do well as an esport is be exciting and dynamic. Just look at any real sport for evidence of this. MMA is probably the fastest growing sport in the world but i'm sure the vast majority of fans will never compete or understand the nuances of what is happening in high level competition. Doesn't stop it from being exciting or entertaining to watch.

i dont really think its gonna have a larger player base than sfiv. that game came at a perfect time when everybody was waxing nostalgic about street fighter and drew in ton of casual folks. i think sfv would be more of the same to those people.

The illusion of being able to compete is decently important to e-sports I think, fighting games may be too niche for that.

if anything competitive fighting games ride on that idea more than esports does. Open tournaments but unless you actually dedicate a huge portion of your life into this, you won't be in the money for fighters.

Look at Capcom's own confidence. The total money prize given to SF5 next year is the same as this year.

Well doesn't explain Hearthstone popularity. Is it because card games are much more simple or random ? I have no idea, never played any.

i dont play card games either but i figured hearthstone blew up based on the fact it had the blizzard name behind it. everything they touch seems to get absurd amounts of attention regardless of genre.

i bet if they made a fg that shit would blow the fuck up.

Card games don't require a lot of rote memorization and practice, and are not real time so you can take your time making decisions (I know HS has a time limit, but it's a pretty generous one). Those elements make it a lot more bearable to grind and practice imo.

It also helps that you can literally play it anywhere so long as you have a PC or phone.... not so much with fighters

Card games are really popular. RNG lets bad players win a baseline % of games and lets them blame RNG for their bad play. (just like MOBAs let them blame teammates.) Blizzard games are really popular/polished. And its a game people can play on the shitter.

That last part is surprisingly important.
