Not sure these are new. I didn't see them on PSblog article

Wait, no more spikes?

This is stupid. Either release the game with a proper story mode or don't bother putting it in. Story mode is for casual players and by the time June roles around the casuals will have moved on. You can't expect such a bare bones package to keep the average consumer interested for 4 months.

I think I love this shot so much because it's such an appropriate reaction to seeing a big ball of stupid blocking out the sun

I don't blame him.

I was wondering when you'd show up.

Then he should have showered and changed. I don't even want to know how funky that rash guard is.

Delaying it would have jeopardized their 2016 Pro Tour, which is a major part of this game. At least the expansion is free, and the game ships with your basic story mode.

I can't believe how MKX has "set the standard" for single player stories in fighting games that people now won't accept anything less.

MKX's story still sucks and it's really not THAT entertaining. It has 0 replayability and is really only worth it if you're an established fan of the series. And the story still doesn't explain how there are characters from Horror Movies and Sci-Fi movies in the game.

I didn't say delay it I said don't waste time on it if you can't have it out by release. Did you even read what I said?

Uh, some people are actually serious.

I think the Mighty No. 9 thread is a good example of what the reaction would've been like if this game were delayed for the cinematic story mode. The situations are similar in the sense that both modes (Mighty No. 9's online and SFV's cinematic story) aren't the bread and butter of the games. They're nice additions but not the primary reason most will want the game. Yet MN9 has been delayed multiple times because of that feature while SFV is releasing on schedule with them updating the game with that mode for free at a later date.

I just realized, will this cinematic story mode be separate from the main story included at release or will it simply replace the art?

Separate I think. The story mode with Bengus art are character specific story mode, while the update will be one big overall story I think.

You don't know his life. What if his wife loves when he's filthy.

So I don't have to download a bunch of stuff four months after launch

You're going to be downloading stuff either way when they put down the characters/costumes.

It's not like downloading that stuff is going to take you days or weeks from your game.

And the story still doesn't explain how there are characters from Horror Movies and Sci-Fi movies in the game.

By being guest characters because they don't need explanations when they aren't canon to the story.

It's not the ass writing that MK has always had that's set this in motion. It's the cutscenes people now want in their fighters.

It's a separate mode. The one included at launch will be similar to what we've seen in the past where it's a story for each individual character. The cinematic story is done MK9/X-style where it's going to be one story that pulls everyone together.

Maybe people see MKX production value not the quality of single player as standard.

All right, thanks for the clarification.

I personally believe that if given a choice between a good single player mode and more characters at release, fighting game fans would choose more balanced characters 9/10 times.

That's over the course of the games run and will be one at a time.

Have you been playing literally any games this generation? Do you know how many stupid ass games have put out 10GB or more patches and shit? And this is supposed to be a story mode and cutscenes are the usually the bulk of why these updates balloon. Yes it could take me days with my download speed or weeks depending on how much bandwidth I have left that month.

Do you get why someone might not be crazy about this?

Clearly somebody has some attitude. To assume that I haven't played any games of this generation, good job, and yes.. I have.

I don't have the best internet either, so not sure where you would be going with that.

As if there isn't a bunch of characters with fire. I'm sure Blanka will actually show up at some point, but it could be far down the line.

Bandwidth caps are a thing, and some people prefer going the physical media route specifically to alleviate them. Having to continually put up with incomplete games at launch and the huge patches that come with them is an understandable annoyance.

Personally, while I think it's cool to have some substantial free bonus story DLC, I regularly come within 5% of my 300 GB monthly cap because I spend about two-thirds of it uploading tournament footage to my Youtube channel.

Not really making this argument for myself, though. I'm already getting the game digitally on PC in the first place. :V

Just curious... what were League of Legends and DOTA 2's day 1 review scores? Those are the business models (and levels of success) they're trying to emulate.

Also... how extensive is LOL and DOTA's cinematic story modes?

I think LoL's score's were okay and DOTA 2 had a long beta period that made reviews pointless (it reviewed well though).

Of course, being a PC centric genre, they were ignored by the mainstream press until they were already juggernauts that didn't need any reviewing anyway.

60$ entry point is a much bigger "problem" than middling review scores imo. If capcom supports the game well and the community likes it, the issue will be to get enough new players.

Considering how much of the Story mode voicework was within the previous Betas, it wouldn't be surprising if a decent amount of story mode data is already on the disk upon shipping.

The mode does use-in-engine cinematics, which are generally substantially less bulky than pre-rendered CG.

Giving the way Capcom has patched the Beta, it'd be nice if they disperse parts of the eventually large DLC in between server maintenance / update bits over a period of time, to avoid 10G mega-downloads as much as possible.

Internet concerns this gen are actually less annoying for me than the sudden need to buy a memory card during the PSX years, actually. At least it works alongsode a service I already pay for. Needing to spend 20 ~ 40 bucks to even play the games I already had was really weird, coming off cartridges.

I feel for those with internet issues, but it's not like Capcom didn't try putting everything regarding future DLC on disk at once before... and we know that didn't turn out well. But this very reason is why it didn't bother me so much.

There's a certain type of poster in these threads who refuses to give Capcom a break. I suspect that they don't even really care about Street Fighter V, they just want to shit on an easy target.

Oh wait there's the cinematic story and that covers everyone then there's the character stories? Am I understanding that correctly?

two story modes
one is character-specific, slideshow-esque story that will be available on day 1
the other one is a cinematic story mode that will be released a few months later as a free dlc

I really don't understand this dichotomy that only "casuals" care about story mode and only the "hardcore" want to play online and against other people. Stupidest shit ever.

thats just Ono trolling as usual, they had no problem with viper being in the same game as blanka and she had fire and electric attacks in SFIV.

Or, if story mode is so fucking important to them, maybe they'll wait to buy it until it's added.

Yeah, there is hecka crossover. I hope Mike and Gootecks do a Let's Play of Story mode like they did with MKX, lol.
