Street Fighter V Cinematic Story Mode - Spoiler Thread

This does hold out hope of a complex story mode in MvC4 if it ever gets made. They promised 3 was gonna have one but it never happened for some reason. Of course Bendis would have to be the one to write it.

How dare you mock Shadaloo's second hand!!

Seriously though, what are you smoking, he was the best part of the story.

Yeah, he was genuinely funny and his voice actor seemed to be on a different level than the rest of cast. Most of the jokes in the SFV story fell flat but I continually enjoyed the running gag of him throwing down a wall of poison and running away super quickly.

I wonder if Capcom would add Ed to a future game as playable. The fact he has Psycho Power makes me think he could be used to carry on Bison's moveset without including Bison.

I'm glad it exists.

It's weird that this game is effectively the prequel to SF3, which was released nearly 20 years ago.

Considering that Decapre seemed far more complete than the other story-only characters, I get the feeling we'll be seeing her in Season 2 of the DLC.

It's also weird that Rose didn't make an appearance. Or, for that matter, Akuma. Certain very important characters in the lore.

My hunch is that we see Abel, Decapre, Oro, and Azam as DLC at some point.

After actually playing it, I wanna say it's like a 6-7 out of 10. It delivered in some areas and didn't deliver in others.

Some characters just felt completely pointless in being there, and some characters I felt didn't get what they should've gotten by the end in terms of satisfaction, especially
Cammy who I really felt got the short end of the stick here given all that goes on with her character.
I feel like if some characters were left out, a better, more focused story could've been achieved.

Rashid was the most complete character in the story for me, with Karin being the most surprising character in the story for me.

Ibuki's voice...just...no. Go away. FOREVER. Laura is also completely crazy. Also, Zangief is 100% ham in this and it's hilarious.

I'd say it's good, not great. B for effort, C- for execution.

OH and it's really fucking creepy how they introduce all the female characters with that slow pan up from the legs

I'm onto you, Ono

Decapre seems like a sure bet for S2, I could see Sean as well. Another story dlc is tricky do you focus around NG? Or do a prelude of what to expect for a storyline after 3s?

I could see them doing a condensed 3s storyline at some point in order to get modern players up to speed and ready to move on.

I have a feeling they knew by the end of making story mode that this game has already failed to the point where there won't be a budget to do a season 2 story.

Will be great if they take what they learned and apply it to Marvel 4 or whatever...

a condensed 3s storyline

The story of 3S is:

Gill: YOU ARE THE CHOSEN ONE
Alex: LOL no
Gill: *dies twice*

I'm pretty sure they can cover it. The question is if they want to. SFV is at least a complete product now - but I don't think Capcom will be happy spending another year making a second story mode.

Anyway, my main problem with this was the sheer amount of bugs and quality issues:

1. Textures popping/not loading on the Shadowloo Base stage
2. The game outright freezing at one point and requiring a hard system restart
3. The game slowing down at the start of matches
4. SO MUCH GODDAMN CLIPPING
5. A lot of very badly edited subtitles
6. Physics objects wigging out. Helen's hair in the Gill scene was flipping out like it was electrified. Weird as hell.

Seems like a safe bet, if you introduce Oro you gotta have him take ryu under his wing at some point. Just thinking about a storyline after 3s is exciting.

Charge money for it and they might.

It definitely felt like some stuff was cut and/or changed about halfway through for no reason.

If they do an Arcade Mode, it's probably going to be more Beengus Art and continue from where this left off.

Yup, he was also pretty scary at certain points too.

It was a missed opportunity to establish Ken and Sean's relationship. Laura should have said something like "I'll give you my chess piece but only if you train me and my little bro."

Also Ken was quick to want to go to Brazil. Thirsty ass.

I was really disappointed in the lack of any meaningful scenes between Nash and Guile. It was so matter of fact, it was like Guile gave up on the storyline himself ages ago. They really dropped the ball in terms of them having a cheesy emotional reunion.

I get the feeling that Nash doesn't remember Guile specifically, but they could've thrown something in there near the end.

Yeah, I can't believe how badly that was bungled. Street Fighter fans have been dreaming about a Guile and Charlie reunion for 20 years, and Capcom handled it as anticlimactically as possible.

30k on Normal
50k on Extra (Have to beat Normal first to unlock it)

Jesus. That's nothing.

Fuck. I have 65k in Fight Money before starting, I think I've bought a handful of story costumes and that's it. No stages or characters. I've run through all the story modes, including Guile and Alex, and everyone's easy and normal Survival.

How do people earn the FM to get all the stages? Or all the characters? Or all the story costumes?

I hate this.

It's a common misconception that Ken actually trained Sean in the SF3 storyline... Ken refused to train him

FANG and Zangief stole the show IMO.

Also as a Monster Hunter fan I can't help but see FANG as a humanoid Gypceros.

Ah good, it wasn't just me. I thought it was just my toaster computer causing that.

The lousy hair physics carrying over to the cutscenes were distracting. Cammy's braid looks like it's trying to strangle her own arm at times. I couldn't stop looking at it.

What's weird about Sean is how his in-game model's hair is vastly different than what he has in the story mode sketches (plus they animate really badly in-game, like slinkies). I hope that if he's included, they redo him with his shorter dreads.

I know, right? As a Guile fan it was a massive letdown. The whole nonsense plot made them forget to give sufficient weight to one of the oldest storylines in the franchise.

I would be okay with it if Guile's solo story wasn't all him remembering Nash.

they should just release movies instead. i enjoyed the cheesyness of the cutscenes and character interactions, but the actual fighting was just as boring as the fake story mode battles.

Now that you say that, remember when capcom released an anime with the launch of SFIV, and another one with the launch of Super (only in Japan). I assume they would do the same here, but it's integrated into the game. I think it was a good idea that Capcom did this.

well, daily challenges are supposed to be our repeatable source of FM and they keep being pushed back. That said, just run the character stories and you'll get a nice chunk. Trials and easy survival for the rest of what's easily attainable for now.

Between story, trials and survival you can actually make back a big chunk of what you spend on a character.

Speaking of the Matsudas, it sounds like Laura is screwing up their fighting style? Sean seemed to call her out on not actually using really Matsuda Jiu-Jitsu.

Yeah. I just did all the character stories, 2 Ryu survivals and this story mode and have 175k FM.

Granted haven't bought anything yet.

She's like a hybrid wrestler that's the first thing that came to mind when Sean called her out.

btw some prologue cutscenes from Urien and juri were extracted.

HEY. WAIT A MINUTE. Couldn't you buy the Airforce Stage with FM before the patch? I know i didn't buy Guile and Alex, for obvious reasons, but I'm 99% sure I bought the Airforce Stage with my FM.

Now it says I still need to buy it and I don't have the 70k in FM. I am pretty sure there's no way the 4 story mode costumes I bought would leave me with 65K.

I got enough FM for all four characters so far, but only bought Balrog

I won't play Guile, Alex is a bitch and I don't think I'll mess with Ibuki

Those stages look cool but they're WAY too expensive

Bison really should have gone into his story costume for the last fight. They also said before launch that Beard Ryu would be part of the story...

Are the load times pretty bad on PS4 or something? Just finished on PC and didn't find the loading too annoying.

SFV wasn't really a...

Ah forget it, I guess there's no fighting that narrative.

Wait, what narrative?

My narrative is that the game was launched 5 months too early, so they parcelled out the content. I wonder if the Season 1 characters were actually going to be included in the original planning phase and if Season 1 was going to be a whole different set.

Hey, about this whole "Games as a Service" thing... they fucked it up, right?

Like, I know the comparison has been made already, but look at Overwatch. Yeah, different genre, but launches with 22 characters and all future characters are free.

SFV launches with 16 characters and all future characters are technically free, but in the shittiest way possible (due to the economy distribution). Like, it's clear that you are encouraged to spend more money or forfeit getting all the DLC characters in any reasonable amount of time, let alone stages and skins.
