Street Fighter V Cinematic Story Mode - Spoiler Thread

Hey that Darun comment in the last post reminded me of something- anyone else notice the Shadaloo grunt has Skull-o-mania's diving headbutt? I wonder if there's any other moves like that we're missing since the matches are so short...

He was trying to do a psycho crusher and failing.

So why was Necalli there again? I honestly thought he was going to be a major character but instead the most memorable thing he does is disguise himself as a sheep and tell Nash to devour.

I figured he was the world's defense system. When the world is in danger he goes around devouring fighters and getting stronger so he can take out the threat, but he's a shitty security system.

Marz's laptop slap looked like Yuri's Saiha to me.

WTF was Balrog doing during the entire ending? Had that scene with Mika and Ibuki and then did nothing.

Also Alex came off as a bit racist, "Oh shit is a guy with dark skin, must be trying to mug me".

Balrog probably did what he had to to get paid, so he was out of there. Would have liked to see Ed more, though. I like Balrog's relationship with him.

Heh, and I did jokingly think that about that Alex scene.

I hope modders will figure out a way to get these story chars playable on PC- really they should have just done like Tobal No 2 with Quest mode and have the ability to unlock all the grunts, etc in versus mode. Doesn't have to be tournament legal or anything....

Just finished it. I appreciated the saturday morning cartoon feel, and it does have its moments, but it disappointed me in a few places.

- It was male gaze-y as hell, and it got beyond annoying with it. I kept wondering if some teenager was "directing" the cutscenes with one hand.

- Necalli was a complete afterthought. Shows up to wreck a few folks, then Ryu kicks his ass, and then we never see him again. With all the buildup Capcom gave, you would think that Necalli would have a much larger role than what we ended up with. Alex and Laura didn't really contribute much to the story, either.

- Rashid's friend getting fridged. While I am happy that Rashid got to have a major role and all, did his fleshing out really have to come at the expense of a female character that we barely even get to know?

- Cammy and Decapre's story could've been written out better. The fight with the Commissioner Gordon cop guy was hilariously goofy and sucked out all the drama of the scene.

- That African stereotype Doll with the spear...yeeeeah.

Overall, I'm glad I played it, but I enjoyed MKX's story more than I did this. It was basically a direct-to-DVD anime movie, one that I probably won't remember. At least I didn't pay full price.

I wonder if Necalli was supposed to be completely different. More like Twelve, turning into fluids and absorbing/stealing stuff.
Both the prologue and the main story make him seem like that, but it's completely missing from his gameplay.

Wouldn't surprise me if Capcom wanted to have that in his moveset but it caused animation and/or framerate issues.

Well, that was ok.

It had a few cool moments. Cammy's outfit is ridiculous.

Had to cheese Bison with Sonic Booms and Hadoukens.

It concludes nicely. The music really works well.

F.A.N.G. is great.

Peter was the highlight.

Would have been great to have at launch.

I like the part where
Rashid infiltrates the Shadoloo base, beats up Bison's guards, lose to FANG and appears to be alright as he made his trip back to China with Azam by his side. Or was it Metro City?

Or when Juri drove her motorcycle from Brazil to London and Vega following her.

Or when Necalli finds himself in Kanzuki Estate with Ryu coming out of nowhere.

Or when when scenes keeps cutting to other scene that is not relevant.

I also like the part where I pick up my controller expecting a fight when the game load and just to get more cutscenes.

Why are people saying this is better than MKX?

Because SF5 dosen't do dumb shit like cut chunks out of the story so people have to go buy the damn comic in order for it to make sense. Thats why I think SF5 and MK9 were better at it.

Although ironically the Life and Death of Charlie Nash comic they released a year ago and claimed wasn't really based on the plot of SFV... turned out to be the plot of SFV. Well minus the part about Charlie being Shadow at one point...

It's funny how chun li barely did anything when in sf3 lore she apparently brings down Shadaloo

That was back in SF3's story though, before 4 came around & brought Bison back a second third time. Before that it was only the 2nd tournament, which Chun is speculated to have won.

I didn't like the exaggerated animation in some cutscenes. It felt like I was watching the Power Rangers.

It was ok, nothing mindblowing. Zangief was the best thing in it.

They probably like the characters more, and that makes a huge difference in enjoying a story mode.

Does anyone really care about Cassie Cage, for instance?

At least MK went out of its way to take advantage of the new timeline and give us a new, likable cast.

Worked
(Kinda)
for SF3.

Speaking of SF3, if there's gonna be any future story DLC I think it's time we established who or what Q is.

Why does it feel like an entire quarter was added really late? Like they go to the base, then leave... then go back again and just finish what they started?

Well originally they said it would be 1-2 hours then later they said 3-4.

Yeah, the fuck was up with that? They don't even give her a name or a face. I thought it was going to be some cool mysterious reveal, but instead it's just shitty writing.

Yeah, that was...ok.
Doesn't beat any of Netherrealm's story modes, but it's a good first try.

The pacing at times was really awful. There were instances where you'd have to watch 3 or 4 different cutscenes before having another match, which tended to last about a minute or less since it's one round only.
It was also dirt easy until the very end. I didn't feel very engaged overall.
It was a not-very-good straight to dvd anime.
Did appreciate the 30000 fight money though. In general I appreciate that it was added.

I also wish Juri had released now instead of Balrog.

I haven't booted up sf5 in months; this post just convinced me to play story mode tonight. Thanks for the laugh, lol.

If there will be more i guess it makes sense the way they ended it.

MKX comic story really didn't have anything to do with what happens in the game mostly. Only thing the comic does is piss off fans of the 3D era characters.

You'd think that chun li would put up a fight against bison almost as well as ryu though, isn't she like the supposed strongest woman in the world in the sf universe?

ikr?

It was pretty much all Helen, Rashid and Ryu killing Dictator.
I know the "you killed my father!" Is more of a joke nowadays but it still would have been nice to have chun fight and beat down bison. The SF2 movie chun fir became the ideal chun the moment she kicked vega through that wall, give her more epic fights l. What the hell's so special about ryu anyway?

I agree with that. Lotta characters got shown up in this story (like both Gief & Mika totally undermining the supposed strength of Rog's punches).

Just got done with it and ehh..didn't really like it much. Sometimes it came off as really silly and not in a good way (basically every scene with FANG), the constant loading completely disrupted the pacing and quite a few characters were irrelevant/did fuck all in the story.

This would probably rank below Blazeblue's, P4A/U's and heck even Brawl's story mode for me.
At least the Ryu/Ken fight at the end was neat.

Technically it was Cammy who killed her father. This was when she was still under Bison's control. I don't think Chun knows about it.

Just finished. I thought it was pretty decent. The plot itself wasn't anything special, but it was actually pretty cool to see an actual story being shown to you rather than having to go through an arcade mode individually stitching people's stories together.

I would pay good money for Capcom to do some sort of complete story mode going from Alpha all the way to Third Strike.

Shit really? I could have sworn bison killed her dad for getting too close to his trail. Why didn't cammy tell her? Now I wanna see that!

Just finished. Had a lot of weird and funny shit in it. Pretty silly in general. Longer than I expected.

I lol'd hard at Laura's intro beyond the wrestling match being her carrying two KO'ed dudes, bullying her brother, and being stupid as hell

Rashid being at the forefront was real cool. I figured he was going to die, but guess not. Interesting arc for him with the unnamed friend.

What the fuck @ Ryu throwing a Hadoken at Chun-Li and the hacker girl and it doing...the exact opposite of what a Hadoken does?

I liked that sequence, actually. Was weird as hell, but nice at the same time. I think it tied into Ryu telling Bison that the new power he gained wasn't only to win. His power can also be used to protect.

I wish that scene was longer than it was. The serene music and relaxing aura that surrounded Chun-Li and the girl was a great juxtaposition to the chaos that was going on around them; it should have been slowed down a bit more and with a greater focus on how Chun-Li and the girl were reacting to their surroundings at that moment for it to be more effective.

True, just look at him! A punch from someone like barking would have sent someone like zangief flying back and would have gone straight through mika who has no muscle whatsoever

FANG is Zack's (DOA) long lost brother. Being clowns all the time and attempting to be funny. I think Shadow Hearts 2 had some characters like that too. Ono needs to step up his game.

They should've just explained what the fuck was going on

It wasn't as bad as DOA5's Primer-level of total confusion, but they kinda just throw you out to the deep end and let you put it together. If you don't have a general understanding of the characters (beyond Rashid, since his stuff is all new), you won't give a damn
