Street Fighter V |OT2| Another Fight Isn't Coming Your Way!

Ranked is honestly the worst way to play this game. You get the same amount of fight money from casual, losing points after you lose is dumb (because even if you lose you're still fighting people among your rank), and it's only a best 2 out of 3. There have been so many matches that I know I could have played better, but I'll probably never play that person again. Lobbies can't come soon enough.

Anyone with a dual monitor set up now getting the 2nd monitor going black when launching the game? Only started happening today.

Ranked up to Super Bronze finally. Seems like a good time to quit for tonight as far as points as concerned.

Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me? No gief on that chart?

Ahh I see. You have to open it in google sheets rather than in browser or you'll miss gief. (Android Tablet)

I think the stages are a step up from SF4, but they could have been a lot better.

SNK stages are so lively in comparison. Look at how everyone is at the very least, interested in the display of super human martial arts (that should be) going on, if not going absolutely insane.

One of my biggest wishes for future SFV on an aesthetic level is that future stages have crowds that give a damn.

FINALLY!!!

Second attempt with my new TE.. not sure about this whole "square gate" thing yet but omg yes.. this is the second character I have cleared survival with and it feels good. My first attempt I lost connection to the server at around fight 21 or so.. :(. I know this is a weak accomplishment for some but it feels huge to me lmao.

As a general rule, if I think I can get over that fireball with a predictive jump...most of hte time it's getting hit lol

Oh well

Ill just lariat through that fireball because im zangief - gets jump kicked in response. Stupid lariat why u not godlike anymore >_>

Headbut is neat to eat fireballs but you need to nail the timing (its not hard but its easy to fuck up at the same time), and the "parry" takes a lot of practice to use

Capcom is between a rock and a hard place when it comes to "tutorials". How are you supposed to teach people how to play competitive Street Fighter and those same people want an arcade mode and are satisfied with it being as garbage as SF4's same mode? Arcade Mode has always been the worst teacher of how to play "properly", so how could you honestly advertise both? I guess you could have both, but will the tutorial tell you not to play arcade CPU? That's the best damn thing it could possibly tell you. How should they even go about this, if they were do it?

This is assuming they don't suddenly come up with some super AI algorithm.

But they are all static? They do the same shit no matter what. In sfv, when someone gets slammed or scores a KD, the people in the back fall over or cheer. Look at Laura's stage for example.

But there is no indicator of how many players online or anything on the main menu?

Nope. Intuitive isn't exactly the word I'd use for CFN, but the fact that you can have a pretty functional cross platform hub for online interaction is not too shabby. It ain't perfect, but it works.
..for some

People react to you winning and losing in the old SNK games. And I don't see how them reacting in SFV makes it ok for them to be in their own little world like nobody is having a martial arts power battle to the death right in front of them.
That russian arena stage is awesome tho
Yes, the Russian stage is awesome. Even in SFII they all looked like they were having a great time. Those are the kind of stages I like.
I miss the days of Street Fighter when every character had their own stage.
Yes!

It took a long time for me to win in SF4 luckily when I joined it was during Super and gaf had good online lobbies to jump in and learn. Shame lobbies are not in because they help foster a safe and welcoming community that allows newbies to come in and take the necessary lumps.

If only we could have a setting to hear it's stage theme instead of Karin's trash theme since tons of people pick her.
I'm really starting to hate Karen and her easy mode, instant noodle soup, canned combo(s).

I'm over here dropping a three hit combo with Nash while the other guy is pressing a single button to get a four or five hitter that can't be dropped and easily links into whatever else after we all wait for the first auto string to end.

If I'm wrong in this let me know. I admit to not knowing a whole lot else about the character.

They did? Gonna look up those stages you just posted. Brb.

First fighter I've tried to get into, just frustrating. The learning curve is fucking brutal. Maybe I'm just getting old.

This is a genre that has been around a long time my man and you are playing one of the oldest within that genre, you should give it some more time! Do you enjoy anything at all about the game? How does survival mode feel? Have you tried local multi with a friend or a significant other? There is WAY more to street fighter than the stupid LP system.

I know that the fight games community makes it seem like internet cred and FGC cred are everything with these types of games but it simply isn't true. Fighting games have a spirit to them that brings out that competitor in you like no other genre can, the fact that you are struggling to the point of frustration just proves this point. There might be a longer road ahead for you but if you in any way shape or form enjoyed what you have played, even if you lost then I urge you to push forward.

The mechanics WILL click for you.. I remember how it was for me in the early days with the SNES through Dreamcast - I thought I really knew fighting games but had only ever played friends and family. It wasn't until I started playing street fighter 2 turbo HD remix or w/e it was called that I started to chip away at the different systems and "understand" the right way and wrong way to play. I know that I just said that I understood the "right and wrong" but I want you to take that with a grain of salt, I think there is allot of pressure on a new player especially within the community - a sort of information overload that can happen. You are constantly going to come into threads like this one and see a ton of weird lingo and terminology that might as well be gibberish and that can add to that "lost at sea" feeling.

For the first long while you just have to play for fun, do what feels right to you and play at your own pace. Once you get comfortable with the idea of special moves and blocking and the general controls you move onto liking specific kinds of characters and before you know it you will start to notice "systems" or "patterns" in the gameplay. One of the earliest things I can recall learning on my own was that "jumping in" with a kick or a punch was something that was causing me to get crushed by quite a few opponents. Fast forward to now and I know that many people have always considered this something a new player does and that it does INDEED result in easy punishment. Learning something like that however just made me change the way I was playing, it made me look less at offense and more at defense, taking my time and being patient with my opponent.

I am sorry for the bit of rambling I have done here I just hate to see someone give up something that they could potentially enjoy, it is such a huge genre after all and there was at least one reason you picked it up in the first place. Good luck to you.
