quick rise input is press down the instant you're knocked down right? or have i been doing it all wrong since beta? lol

It was that way in IV. In V it's either two punches or two kicks when you hit the ground. I think you can hit down or back to roll back as well.

Per the SF How To Play website:
Recovery

htp-recovery.jpg

Get up quickly after being knocked down by using Recovery. Input a direction OR press two or more Punch or Kick buttons at the same time after being knocked down by an opponent’s attack. If you time it right, you will get up quickly. There are two types of Recovery: Back and Neutral. See the diagram for instructions on how to perform both types.

I actually do live a ten minute walk from an enthusiast-run arcade with probably the biggest SF scene in London...

I just kinda wanted to get at least a little better before I tried going there, I didn't wanna be like the kid with his knee-pads and helmet at the skatepark getting in the way of the people who know what they're doing.
Where is this in London?

Literally no need to worry about getting in the way. Only one way to level up.

I can help with replays if you wants tell you what you might have done to win

I might go down this weekend and try and meet people. Not entirely sure how to introduce myself to others apart from "Hi, I suck at fighting games!"
Thanks for the offer but I think my replays are a bit too messy and unreasoned to analyse right now, maybe after a bit of practice.

I realize the majority of you probably don't care since you're WAY beyond this point, but I just made bronze and I'm so happy. T_T

Congrats! I got to Bronze last week...and then dropped back to Rookie...and managed to grind my way back up to Bronze.

Don't get disheartened if you drop rank! Rise UP!

Oh my god... I forgot about quick rising. This'll help stop me from being rushed down when I'm on the floor. Because I struggle after that, specifically jump-ins on wake-up.

Thanks for the encouragement guys; I know there's a path to improving (it was pretty easy for me to identify what I was doing wrong and the muscle memory that I was lacking) it's just more brutal than any other competitive game I've played. I'll reinstall and at least jump in chat with buds while losing to laugh and take the edge off of it. Hopefully that gets me past this initial hurdle.

I still strongly believe they've made a significant mistake with their 0 LP implementation. When you combine that with the lack of any good tutorials and challenge mode I can see it turning off a lot of newcomers. SF5 might have a smoother learning curve come June or whatever but I'm afraid it will never get as much press as it is now and by then most new players may've moved on and when the occasional person comes back they'll just be greeted by an even more experienced playerbase.

On the bright side me and other shitty players are inflating the LP pool as we continue to lose with no LP penalty so maybe the MMR gap will get large enough to make a difference XD

The problem is that when you do that, people sit there, lose 20 games to drop to -afuckton and then start winning matches against new players for fight money.

Repeat until the business model is wrecked.
For almost all players they'll hit some LP and plateau winning 50-50 and they'll all earn FM at the same rate. Not sure what would be gained by wasting time and sandbagging to a low tier just to again win 50% of your matches to stay there. Picking up SC2 having never played MP RTS was a smoother learning curve than this.

Good people in this thread. Thanks everyone. :)

If anyone wants to fight my Fight ID is Grayfox.

I'll add and give it a shot if I see you online. Feel free to d/c me if it's a bit teleporty though, fast connection and wired in but I'm in the UK.

hows the online now?

Probably not the best person to comment as it's been fine since Wednesday for me, but setting connection to 5 on ranked churns matches out within a minute usually and it's a very small percentage that are laggy.

I knew you were talking about the HoG!
So jealous, man. You should definitely pop in and say hello at least. SFV is fresh and people will be happy to see that it's attracting new members to the community, regardless of initial skill level. You might even find someone of similar level who you can spar with, either locally or online.

I just got the game myself, and I'm excited to start training tonight. Gonna start with that bone dry Ryu and work out the basics, as per Gooteck's Fighting Game Fundamentals ebook. It's an excellent read whether you're familiar with other SF iterations or not. Plus it's free!

Just clawed my way back to super bronze. I swear, some pro players lttp must have been climbing the ladder last night. Bronze players whooping my ass every which way, so much harder claiming super bronze this time.

Set my fight request options to "5 bars only", game sends a 1 bar oponent my way...
Considering this kind of things happen, that fight request confirmation option thingie is a godsend.

It's a really great place, I've been there before a few times but more to just fuck about with mates on Time Crisis or DDR than for any serious play. The more I think about it the more I'm feeling that I'll head down this weekend, take my stick and just get my ass kicked by people who can at least calmly explain to me what I'm doing wrong afterward!

Anyone in eastern us want to play? having the hardest time getting decent games since launch. its either wait an eternity for a single laggy match at a time, fail to join lobbie, or create a lobby and have random countries join

I know the guys who run it. It's a really friendly place for everyone not just fighting games. No need for introductions, just pull up a chair and play.
The main guy is Mark(a waste man).

After 1 match in an hour, all of a sudden three matches in a row. (Now four!)

Switch flipped?

We're in the non American friendly time now and lord knows we British didn't buy the game, so assuming the rest of the PAL territories followed suit, the servers shouldn't be rammed.

Not really sure if players in other countries should count as "5-bar" connections.

That really depends on where you are in the world. I can play people in most European countries just fine, and a few outside of the EU. And depending on where you are in your country, and in what country, a person across the border from you may be closer to you than a person on the other side of your own country. Preferably, the game should just display the actual ping, and let you decide that way.

There's plenty of informational resources to read up on over at the Fighting Game Newbie thread, and if you have any specific questions you want answered, people are more than willing to reply to them. Fighting games are difficult, but thankfully there's already plenty of documentation out there to get started with Street Fighter V with CFN's replay system making it easier than ever to provide feedback on someone's approach as well.

Good, I'm playing super angry, and I have lost five in a row. Lost about three hundred league points. Yes. All is going to plan. I better keep playing and ride the salt train all the way to the station. I assume "the station" is rookie league. Christ!

Man, some matches I feel like I'm playing a screenshot gallery. It never seems to affect my opponent, though. I don't know why.

It probably does with the way the netcode works, some people can just cope better. I had a dirty win against someone who was clearly better and beating me, then lag started to hit and I made a comeback. Didn't feel great, but it is what it is.

If lag starts happening, I tend to get more aggressive as Cammys specials will teleport into them before they know it.

In Europe you can have better connections to other countries than parts of your own.
But I did notice that the usual 4 bar connections I had in USF4, like against Russian or Spanish players, now show up as 5 bars. Latency certainly hasn't changed, but the threshold is different.
I don't see it as a problem, though. The netcode supports it.

Hi guys and girls, i am searching for an answer, i want to buy the seasonpass for this wonderful game.

The thing is that i play on my EUaccount, but i usually buy my games and dlc on my USaccount, and it always works, some things like onlinecredits for when you preorder GTAV doesn´t work because its tied to the user and not account, but things like premium for BF and seasonpass for CoD and things like that works on my euaccount even tho i bought it on the usaccount.

So i have asked on Capcoms forum but no answer, is it someone here that can confirm that it will work, if i buy the seasonpass will the new stuff unlock on the account were i play my games on, maybe no one knows yet?

Sorry if my english sucks, but i really want to buy the seasonpass, will support this game as long as its possible =)

Is anyone else's youtube stream stopping whenever you enter a menu where "gameplay recording is not allowed"/blocked scenes (i.e. message log, CFN, etc.)

Is this normal or is this a bug?

Well no one knows about how the season pass works with other accounts but preorder costumes are tied to the account you bought them on. So safer to assume that buying season pass from US store would lock it to your US account.

edit.

Working exactly as intented.

We don't know 100% and won't until Alex is out most likely, but I bought the US PSN version to use on my EU account and I can't use the Chun Li outfit on that account. However, I did buy a Hot Ryu EU costume code while they were cheap, redeemed it on my EU account and it works so everything seems account locked rather than the usual region lock.

My bet is that you'd want the EU season pass for your EU account even if it is the US game, but it's best to wait until someone has tested this, unless you don't mind being the guinea pig :)
