on windows 98se, when you shared a folder on the network, you had the option of password protecting it..

in XP, i dont see that option in the share tab.. there has to be a way of doing this, but i cant seem to find it.

how i shared the foldre:

right-clicked
selected 'properties'
selected 'sharing' tab
checked 'share this folder on the network'

the user needs to have an account on the pc, when they connect are they being prompted for password? if there is a local user account on the machine (which you can set up) enter that user name and password, make sure its got rights to the folder. I can't remember how to do it with simple xp security though.....

no password is being prompted.. i just checked on my mac.. i connected without needing to enter a password..

i also have the guest account disabled.

:/

i dont know why they changed this, but in 98, they let you easily add a password to any shared folder or printer...

You've probably got to turn simple file sharing off.

Open any folder and click >Tols>Folder Options>View
scroll to the bottom and uncheck Use Simple Filesharing
