Is there any reason to still have Java installed on a PC? Windows 7 to be exact. It's not a gaming PC either. Dang thing keeps asking to update so I just removed it, but I don't want to get stuck troubleshooting the next time I try to run some random application that might need Java

Question about my iphone and contract. Afaik, my contract has expired so I could quit it for something else entirely at any time. But I'm wondering what I'd lose functionality wise. Let's say I quit my contract and remove my sim card. Could I still use facetime, imessaging and skype/viber chat programs etc? Safari web browsing? I mean, I pay 15 bucks a month plus as much for Spotify Premium and I make like ~5 phone calls a month. Not really worth it but is it required for general phone use?

Basically, I want my old iPhone 4s to be a small ipad xD

I'm fairly certain you could still use all your apps over WiFi without a SIM card. My understanding is the SIM is just for carrier-based operations like making calls, billing, and text messaging (not to be confused with iMessage which is carrier independent). You wouldn't have access to 3g/4g data obviously but if it's just something you want to use around the house I'm pretty sure you'll be fine.

If you don't know anything that needs it you're better off without it. If you do require it at the very least disable the browser plugins it installs and keep it updated.

Haven't had it installed on my main machine in many years, but I do keep it on the Mac for a couple random apps.

You should keep the sim card itself though as if you ever need to go through activation again it will require a card I believe, even if there is no service connected to it.

Ah yes lack of 3G might be problematic, forgot about that. Thanks.

I carry around my phone and a portable charger/battery everywhere. I'm always ready to go with my phone! So, the only chink in my armor has become the actual charging cable. They get kinked in my pocket or whatever and, basically, they're the weak link here.

My question, dear GAF, is are there any devices for sale that are basically a short, hard plastic charging cable? Like a few inches long and nearly indestructible? Something that could stay in my pocket, ready to charge stuff, and just take the abuse?

Strange request, I know, but if ANY mobile dorks can help me I thought you might be able to!

What kind of phone do you have? Do you just need a micro USB cable to charge it? In any case, www.monoprice.com probably has something that you could use. I found this that seems pretty convenient:

I'm getting a bigger microSD card for my tablet. Can I just plug my tablet into my PC, copy the contents of its existing card entirely onto the new card, and then swap the cards out and basically have it such that nothing changed at all except my free space? I ask because I do have a few DRM protected things on it, like UV movies and such.

I'm using Internet Explorer now [IE11]. I installed adblock but can't find how to whitelist sites, there are no options that I can see anywhere. When I go into Manage Add-ons, the only option is to disable or enable it.

In Chrome and FF, a little icon would appear and you could choose some options including whitelisting sites. No icon appears in IE11.

help

edit: Never mind, found the solution. You need to enable the status bar and the options will be accessible from there.

I don't see why not. The DRM on those files would most likely only look for the account associated with them when you try to play them back on the tablet, rather than the specific SD card they were copied/downloaded to originally.

You *might* have to turn off a 'read-only' attribute on the files when you go to copy them, but I doubt that would be the case, and would be a trivial matter anyway.

Are randomly cycling avatars via services like SignAvatar allowed on NeoGAF? Not sure if those were banned alongside the .gif avatars a while back.

Guys, help me with this please. In the past few weeks I've started getting this popup very frequently when I click my mouse. Usually when I click a link, but often when I click a text field also.

It just spawns an entirely new tab. It's quite irritating and it ALMOST cost me the Wolfenstein deal on Amazon the other day. I'd love to get rid of it and have no idea where it came from. I've looked online and can't find any mention of this particular phenomenon.

Usually I'm pretty good about this kind of stuff, but I'm just having NO luck. Please be a Christmas miracle for me!

Try giving this a whirl. https://toolslib.net/downloads/viewdownload/1-adwcleaner/

I'm practising my German again since I may be going to Berlin on erasmus and I haven't touched it almost two years. Is there a Firefox extension like Rikaichan but for German? I have a lot of problems with vocabulary and it's a bit tiring to look up many words I don't know/remember. Rikaichan is very useful for that matter, and I've been looking around but can't find anything similar.

In English language, if i want to point a single alphabet letter which isn't a vowel and it's pronunciation starts with a vowel (i.e. "F")...

Do i say:

an f
or
a f

????

This is the correct way of typing and pronouncing it. (source, and you can find plenty of other similar sources by googling the question.)

Even though I'm not a native speaker, this is simply because F sounds like it has an E in it at the start. So you get an annoying double vowel there if you say 'a f'. You can hear how wrong it sounds by instinct basically :)

Hey guys. What was the online game that showed everyone in the room a picture, and everyone tried to think of the funniest caption. At the end of a timer, everyone anonymously voted whose caption was funniest, and the winner got a point? I think there was a thread about it a year or so back.

Is it one of these games inside the Jack Party Box?

Also, it might be better to ask Stupid Gaming Questions OT since it's game related :http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthr...questions+that+don+t+deserve+their+own+thread

Get the Picture

Oh, man, that and Acrophobia and Cosmic Consensus were my jam back in the day.

An A, a B, a C, a D, an E, an F, a G, an H, an I, a J, a K, an L, an M, an N, an O, a P, a Q, an R, an S, a T, a U, a V, a W, an X, a Y, a Z.

If the word/letter begins with a vowel, it's an. If it begins with a consonant, it's a. English is fucked.

Not really fucked, it's makes it a lot easier to speak and one of the easiest rules to remember as long as you try to pronounce the letters you want. And it's also quite consistent compared to most other English rules :lol Saying "a R" is just tongue wrecking and feels bad in your mouth :)

How could I go about transferring the title of my vehicle to somebody without them knowing? Or at least make all of the preparations on my end for them to finish the process.

Florida btw. Is this even possible?

I triee googling but I'm not sure what to search for. I've had glasses all my life and recently in school I've noticed that the teacher's slides tend to have more faded colors with my glasses on, that is, black text is black as long as I *don't* wear my glasses, and turn slightly grey and fuzzy with the glasses on! The distance from the projector seems irrelevant. I cleaned the glasses on a break today just to rule out smudges. Is this common with age or something? I probably need new glasses but it's a bit weird that colors get worse, not better, compared to not using glasses at all xD I do have a scheduled eye exam next year.

What happened to the big long 9/11 conspiracy thread that we used to have here? Searched for it and can't find it. Did it get deleted?
Yep, it seems like the "9/11 conspiracy stuff goes here and nowhere else" thread has been deleted. You can search for it with Google and it will point to an invalid thread.

Does the German version of Monster Hunter Ultimate 3 Wii U have English? I presume so just wanted to make sure.

Shit I hope this is the right place...

What happened to the Neogaf feature that showed when you'd been quoted and linked you to the thread?

It only existed for a very short period of time.
It was removed due to server load issues.

Just do a search for your username.

Hypothetical:

If you were locked out of a system by someone with superior permissions, how would you turn the tables and gain access or control?

Does this have anything to do with your recent engagement?
Protip: Your fiancée has superior permissions now, and you would do well not to turn the tables and try to gain access or control >.>

Just playing around :þ

I can't find much on Google, but in the movie 'Rush' Niki Lauda has to have his lungs vacuumed. He's shown as being conscious during this process. Any med gaf know if this is accurate? Could they not sedate him for the vacuuming? Just curious.
