Does anyone know what the name is for this:

I'm trying to get into an college art program but I never got into art in high school due to a computer error (I had a 98% in grade 9, highest in class). It's a course titled "Digital Media Design" and is mainly focused on web design, photoshop, 3D modelling and animation. It wants me to have a portfolio but I obviously don't have one. What's the best way to get into art/web design? I'd be willing to take a basic art course to catch up and allow me to create a portfolio over a year or two but I'm so confused as to how to do it.
Can someone please help me? I don't have anyone in my life so NeoGAF is the only one I can ask. :'(

I have a problem with my laptop's battery. It wont charge anymore. I took it on vacation with me to the US but I couldn't charge it there because the charger would fit neither into the socket or the transformer I brought with me. Now I did use the laptop until it nearly ran out of battery (I think I still had around 2% left). but it was completely drained when I got back home again after 3 weeks.Now, the only way I can use my laptop is when I put it into the charger. As soon as I take it out, my laptop turns of.
Is there a way to let the battery charge again or should I buy a new battery?

My french is a little rusty, but I believe that "conjugaison" is masculine, so the word ends in "if". If the noun were feminine, it would end in "ive" instead. A more common example you might know that follows the same rule is "sportif/sportive".

Do retail stores usually have something for their employees that say they cannot work at a competitor while working at their store?

I'm starting work at Superstore (Canada) in a few days, however I will only be working 15 hours a week and it's a overnight position. There is a similar position at Walmart that is during the day that I want to apply for. If I get an interview, I will flat out inform the person that I do work at Superstore.
I quickly read over the handbook/contract thing at Superstore when I went to do paperwork and I know there is a clause saying I cannot "poach" employees from there for 6 months. I do not remember seeing anything about working at a competitor though.
If anybody has first hand knowledge or whatever, I would appreciate it.

Even for a entry level job in the store? Hmm, well I'll have to find out. I guess I go to Human Resources? I don't want to ask my Manager about it.
HR probably isn't a bad idea. When I worked at Nordstrom's there was an unspoken rule about being totally anti-Banana Republic. They probably wouldn't fire someone for doing it, but it would be looked down on as not being committed to the company.
Does Superstore have another branch nearby? It probably wouldn't be too difficult to get hired in another store by the same company, and you could use your current employer as a reference.

It depends what you want to do with the video. For simple stuff you can just use Microsoft Movie Maker or any of the other free alternatives.
Probably a mix. Especially for the AMVs, which a loooooot of people hate. I don't hate them as much now that they don't block off all the real results I want when I do a Youtube search.
I imagine gravity would keep you at the center of the earth.

The other free alternatives aren't really better than MM, but if you want to you can try Virtual Dub, Wax or Zwei-Stein and see if you prefer them.
My curiosity is getting the better of me so I'm trying to track down some information. I don't know alot about foreclosures and homes though, so here's a quick run down:

- It was in my family for a long time.
- My grandparents lived there, then my Mom and Dad.
- Mom and Dad sold the house and built a new one in another part of the state.
- Someone bought the old house and flipped it, then resold it.
- The people who bought it from the flipper have already let it go back to the bank.

Since a day or two my HDD is constantly active and it's driving me pretty crazy right about now having that non-stop rattle next to my ear [my tower is standing on my desk so it's standing right next to me].
Other than installing some games through Steam I did not do anything to the system. Of course I checked the task manager but I couldn't really get anything out of that. I updated my virusscanner and did a scan, nothing.
I'm not sure what the hell is going on. I run Wondows 7 64-bit version, if that's any help.

Run resmon.exe (start menu, type 'resmon', enter) and check the Disk tab. It could be Windows Search indexing files or something of the sort.

Since there's no separate MechanicGAF thread, I guess this goes here. I have a Mitsubishi Lancer 1991 that I bought a few months ago (they were sold as Mitsubishi Mirage in the US, I think). It's obviously getting old, but still works like a charm, and it's a constant 4WD so it should be useful for getting around in winter up here. But two or three times recently I've experienced it locking the rear wheels when backing up. I noticed that this only seems to happen when I'm backing up quickly while turning the wheel hard, so it's not really a problem to me, but I was just wondering if this is something that happens to cars with 4WD (I've never driven 4WD before), or if there's something wrong?
