What's the origin of the 'women with sharp knees' meme? I keep seeing it posted round OT, but have no idea what it's referencing.

What's the recommended starting point for someone interested in trying their hand at voice work?

Legitimately curious but all I can find (unless I'm using bad keywords) is semi-sketchy looking training courses in my city.

Not this one but it's similar.

Thanks, though luckily someone posted it in another thread:

Okay, I'm trying to help out a friend with a banner for a mailing she wants to send out for her webshop. I've made it in photoshop, 500 by 500 pixels. The program she uses for making an e-mail template for some reason only works with .gif (although it is a still image). I can't get the file under 150 kb which is a bit heavy for a mail I think. I can decrease image quality in Photoshop with jpg but with .gif, it stays 150 kb. How do I make a .gif lighter/less kb?
Try some of the options in File > Save For Web And Devices.

Depends on what processor you have. There's a PC thread on the gaming side you could check out.

I was kinda leaning on learning what the concepts of overclocking and beyond

So far, I've only learned that you need a decent heat sink for over clocking or a water cooled processor to better regulate the heat. A power supply with enough voltages for oc'ing. And writing down essential information of your motherboard a long with your processor so I'll know what kind of numbers I need to punch in on the BIOS. Stress testing your CPU and what kind of temperatures I'll be needing when oc'ing and keeping it stable. <-- This kinda stuff is common knowledge

The part of what I'm confused about is this:

frontside bus x multiplier = processor speed

^I don't know if this mathematical formula(?) applies to all types of oc'ing and what not.

Also how would I know what number's I need to type in the BIOS when overclocking

150kb isn't big at all.

I need a new laptop that will play Dota 2 (only PC game I care about) and lets me watch HD videos with no issues. What specs should I be looking at?

Here are Dota's system requirements, but I don't know if that will play HD videos with no issues. Blergh I really know nothing about specs.

Dota 2 Recommended System Requirements:

* OS: Windows® 7 / Vista / Vista64 / XP
* Processor: Intel core 2 duo 2.4GHz
* Memory: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista
* Graphics: DirectX 9 compatible video card with Shader model 3.0. NVidia 7600, ATI X1600 or better
* Hard Drive: At least 2.5 GB of free space
* Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card

If you are planning to buy a new PC for playing DOTA 2, we'd suggest you get atleast the following for a constant 60+ fps experience at max settings and 1080p.

* OS: Windows® 7 64bit
* Processor: Intel Pentium G630 2.70GHz
* Memory: 4GB DDR3
* Graphics: AMD Radeon HD7750 GDDR5

Can someone please tell me how and why Dredd bombed in the US? it was pretty awesome.

and do we have any chance for a sequel? like if blu-ray/dvd sold well?

I'll be forced into buying a car soon. I was really hoping I could prolong this until I had a decent amount of paper. Anyway, is there any site that will allow me to estimate insurance rates without putting in my cell and address? I just want a decent estimate, because I want to know what my insurance rates would be before I choose what kind of car I get.

A combination of things, I'm sure. I think it's doing pretty well on DVD and Blu-ray, but I don't know what it would take for a sequel to come about.

What's the source of that gif of the guy standing up and spreading his arms out and it fades to red and says "NeoGAF"?
And here's the thread.

Can someone please tell me what version of Skype for Mac had the screenshot feature?

The new Skype is terrible, I've reverted back to 5.4 and 5.2 so at least I can expand my own screen but I'm still missing that screenshot feature that was present underneath the persons video.

do other countries not do tips AT ALL, or does that only apply to restaurant bills?

like what about a hotel when they carry your bags or an all inclusive resort when someone brings you drinks??

I desperately need some help.

While I am capable of producing a nice application for companies, my kryptonite appears to be the SHL online tests.

I've got five days to practice and do my test for Deloitte (it's SHL). I have to complete an online numerical test.

Can anyone please give me some advice and pointers? What is the best resource to practice for these tests? How can I answer questions with speed and accuracy?

At restaurants in the Netherlands it is common to simply round up the bill. So a €36 meal and a €4 tip to make it 40. There isn't a "code" which tells you that you have to tip that 20% or else they'll get mad. Waiters are often delighted if you tip at all, even if it's just pocket change.

But all in all it just depends on the person. Some won't tip at all, others are far more generous.

If I download an old version of iTunes, do I have to delete my current one? Also, in that case, will the iTunes folder disappear so I need to add all my music from a backup?

When I sync Facebook to various devices it's syncing timeline photos I have long deleted and can't be viewed on my profile. Does anybody know how to permanently get rid of these?

Australia - sit down meal service, tips are common, but less common for other services. Personally I tip for good service. If there's a tip jar I'll throw in the change. If a taxi driver is professional and courteous with a clean cab I'll tip him, although most people don't.

I carry my own bags in a hotel and I wouldn't tip someone bringing me a drink - it's a 60 second job for them.

Words or phrases that people habitually use whilst speaking to give themselves time to think of what they're going to say next.

There is a word or phrase for this and I can't remember what it is.

Halp pls.

My laptop won't start up. Well, to be exact, it fails and reboots when trying to start up. I tried to restore it to when it did work, but that failed. It said there was something in the memory it couldn't repair.

I'm wondering if there's any way of fixing this without losing my files. I have a few pieces of writing I can't lose. (I do have them saved on the web as well, but one of them is a slighty older version)

Can you boot in safe mode and try restore? If there's an issue with your RAM you may be screwed - best solution would be to try removing the HDD and putting it in a desktop. If you can boot into safe mode perhaps copy your files then.

Couldn't boot in safe mode. I'm screwed, aren't I?

Tipping is not so uncommon in Europe really. It's just that people aren't entitled to it, but then again service is already included in the bill, a tip is a little extra if service has been good.
Rounding up is still pretty common (food, taxis etc), especially if you're not obliviously a student.
Plenty of places still have a field on the bill for you to indicate how much you want to tip, with what's already included mentioned.

Being in Japan now, one of the things I was warned about is that there is practically no tipping at all, and that if you leave a tip, people will actually run after you to return it (I haven't tried it). Apparently the only places to tip are the ones where you're an old customer and/or are so expensive that their menus don't have prices.

I live in the UK, would someone be able to recommend me a good frame for movie posters that I could hang on the wall. I have been on the Ikea website, but i'm unsure of the size I need.

Is this how your pronounce "I love your eyes" in Swedish?

Yor elska din oeragon?

And how do you pronounce "your so beautiful" in Swedish? (or perhaps something more flattering).

I want to compliment her, but with clear Swedish.

In Swedish that would be "jag älskar dina ögon" [jɑːɡ æːlskar di:na øːgon].

You can listen to the phrase by going to Google Translate.

"Du är så vacker".

Why do air ambulances in the UK need donations to keep running? Surely these are funded by taxpayers, and if not, what's the justification that?

Also just to add, if there's no service charge at a restaurant then it's very common to tip in the UK. Other places I see people tipping are to taxi drivers and men's haircutting places, but apparently that doesn't happen with women. I've never heard of tipping a fast food delivery service.
