Stupid Questions |OT| of questions that don't deserve their own threads

So I'm currently watching Dragon Ball Z for the first time ever. It's on a DBZ website which has the entire series in the remastered format. Why does Vegeta sound like a dipshit in Dragon Ball Z season 4? His voice was pretty cool in the first three seasons, but now he sounds awful. I miss his deep voice. D:

Different voice actors or a dub by a different company (Ocean/Funimation)? I remember Goku starting to sound completely different somewhere in the middle of the Frieza Saga.

Borrow money from a parent or a friend? If you don't even have a one week cash buffer you might want to get rid of the car.

Oh lord I don't know what to do... I always have the money for it but there was an emergency this past week and I had to pay over 300 dollars unexpectedly. Is there no way to convince the bank to let me wait just a bit longer if I guarantee them it won't happen again? Right now I have $290 in my bank and the car payment is $270 but I need money for food and gas. :(

Call them up and ask if it's a problem? There's probably a grace period past the due date, especially if you've never been late before. The worst that's likely to happen is that there might be a late fee; it probably won't even show up as a late payment on your credit history.

The only potential problem is if you're in one of those deals with super-low initial interest that goes up later. Sometimes those have clauses about late payments bumping the interest up. (At least, this is the case with zero-interest deals on TVs and such--not sure about cars.)

This won't go away. No buttons show up or anything. What do I do?

That seems so obvious now. Thanks! Still though, a lot of the time it's for threads that are really topical, like a news story, and they just comment on it like it was brand new.

Could be junior members delving into post histories after being granted the ability to search and forgetting it's an old thread.

Dunno, it is pretty weird.

Why do people confuse "have" and "of" so often, i.e. "I should have/of learnt how to use proper grammar"? It annoys me especially when there are absolutely no other mistakes in a sentence.

Because they sound alike in a sentence, I guess.

But yeah, I feel your pain.

My assumption is that it is because the abbreviation of 'should have' i.e. 'should've', sounds so much like 'should of'; given how sloppily the average person enunciates words these days.

Fortunately I was brought up by a Grammer School boy so I know more betterer [sic] :P.

I remember way back in the early days of the generation, there was a trailer for a racing game (Not sure if GT or Forza)

And the song in the background was like "Rise up and *insert word here being screamed*" the camera panned out all over the various tracks and that "Rise up and *insert word being screamed*" kept playing over and over.

What was that trailer? Which song? Anyone got any links? Or even know what I'm talking about

Some dialects think of interchanging the two as the norm, which is different to standard English I guess.

What's a good online hosting site for files? I need to upload some portfolio material in the range of 15 - 500MB, preferably without the site taking over the copyrights of the files etc (like how pictures of myself belong to facebook once uploaded). I need to upload some games I've made and I don't want to end up in a sticky situation over rights.

Dropbox is great. dropcanvas is alright too.

If you want to keep them around for a long time you might want to rent some server space or set up one yourself.

Thanks, I'll try my dropbox account then :D From what I've heard, almost no one actually downloads and installs portfolio games during job hunting season so I don't think my own server is needed (though that might be nice if I want my own website later on). I'll think about it!

My girlfriend dropped her phone and cracked the glass on the front. The screen still works fine though (including touch). It's a galaxy s3. She bought it 2 weeks ago from verizon. She took it to verizon and they said they don't do repairs, and recommended a repair place in town. She took it to the repair place and they said it'd cost $380 to fix since the whole screen, including the display, is one piece. She only paid like $100 for the phone.

What are her options? Is verizon just bullshitting her?

I don't think it's worth the repair if it costs that much. The Front Panel Assembly does seem to cost around $250 so you're pretty screwed. Next time she should get a case/shield for it.

I'm buying Sun Tzu's 'The Art Of War' as a housewarming gift for a friend. But there seem to be a dozen different versions and translations of this book. GAF, which English version is the bestest?

The same vowel is used in each (a schwa), so they sound exactly the same.

Yes but only if they are enunciated without the slight pause between the two words that wouldn't occur with the one word. Not that anyone would ever say 'should of' instead of 'should have' so it is academic :P.

You can get the original for free as a digital download in something like the iBook store, I know you said it's a gift.

A nice easy version is Sun Tzu's Art of War for the 21st Century by Stanley Bronstein. Condensed down completely. I'm not sure what the best version is if you're looking for a more complete version.

Where are you from?

Netherlands.

From the looks of it, Thomas Cleary's edition that archnemesis linked is one of the most complete editions out there, if not the most complete, and would make for a good gift. I've e-mailed a bookstore somewhere far, far away for a shipping quote. Here's hoping.

Since your from the Netherlands have you checked Bol.com?

The Art Of War: An Illustrated Edition (Thomas F. Cleary). (second hand)
The Illustrated Art of War (Samuel B. Griffith). (new)

The only illustrated hardcover version I've come across there is his latest (2009) edition. What worries me about that one is that it's abridged. Or is this rather a good thing?

EDIT: 224 pages in the 2009 edition, 223 in the 1998 edition. Guess there's no problem there after all. I'll go for this one, methinks. Thank you, archnemesis, Ninja Dom and FillerB!

Can someone post that gif of the group of young black men staring into the camera, then one comes across the screen from outside the picture with his hands to the side of his face and a "mind blown" expression?

I didn't know this thread existed otherwise I wouldn't have made a stupid thread. Please help me in this:

GAF I need help remembering the name of a music video

Or it might have been sketch comedy.

Basically it was this radio or boombox that was being treated like a celebrity for being such a great musical genius or something along those lines. I think it might have been destroyed and rebuilt in the end.

It was from the mid 90s.

Thanks.

In the opera-episode it was stated that he primarily wanted it like that for privacy. Besides would you let your 9-year old son play around with theoretical nuclear physics?

Realistically no, but if he had the mind of a brilliant 50 year old genius and had the common sense and knowledge of handling such dangerous materials, I would let him.
I still wouldn't. It's too dangerous.

I can't find the science questions and answers thread, but:

How long do metabolic enzymes typically last in the body? Once an enzyme is produced, is it "used up" after it works it's magic one time, or does it function continually, causing the same reaction over and over?

If the answers to these questions differ drastically depending on the enzyme, then how about 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA lyase, or 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA synthase?
