Is there something wrong with my Macbook 2012's internal WiFi card or whatever you call it?

At first I thought it was my internet that was shitty, but it doesn't seem to be the case, as sometimes it'll be fine for hours and then it'll show that it's "connected" to my WiFI, but it won't load any new pages at all and goes out on me, but other devices connect just fine at that particular moment it goes out.

I have to manually re join the network again before it return to normal again?

Should I get a new computer, because this is pissing me off.

It's in your user profile, just under the link to see all your posts.

Thank you!

Follow-up question:

Is clicking the orange logo beside a thread supposed to take you to your last post in that thread? Because it doesn't. It literally puts me into some random page/post of the thread every time that isn't even a post that quotes mine.

Is there any way to go to your last post in a thread?

And is this also possible somehow on the mobile GAF platform?

The orange logo takes you to the first unread post of a thread. I don't think there is a quick way to go to your most recent post and go from there.

Thanks.

Also, with regards to my first question, I actually can't seem to find what you guys are pointing me to. Don't see an option to see my threads or my public profile anywhere in User CP at the top.

Am I looking in the wrong place? Thanks.

Edit-

NVM, found it all! Didn't realize I had my own page by actually clicking on my name. Wow. Been here for like eight years too, jesus.

So, having spent the last six months doing a ton of research and then a top to bottom rebalancing of our financial investments and savings strategy, I'm turning to the spending side of the budget. Basically looking at all our expenses and questioning them, looking for ways to push them down.

First up: the Comcast bill. But it just occurred to me I have no idea how to tell what my alternatives are. Are there any good way to look up what internet and cable companies service my town? (Saint Helens, OR.)

Edit: some google-fu brought me here: http://www.whitefence.com/

It has some options, but it doesn't even show my current cable provider, which makes me dubious that it's comprehensive.

Definitely hold off on a brand new computer, unless you have some free replacement warranty. Do you have trouble on any other WiFi networks? If I had to guess, something's wonky with your network settings that your router's picky about. If you haven't already, maybe check out the tech support thread?

Is "swanky" a rude word in general? Not talking about its meaning, just its use. It has a derogatory sound that makes me pause when I say it.

It's a couple of months old.

To quote EviLore on it
We've been testing it out as a potential second unobtrusive revenue stream on a trial basis for a few days now (thanks for being oblivious to all my mentions of it, TDM!). The way it works is that outbound hyperlinks are checked to see if they match a list of merchants, like Amazon, and if they are then that's tracked and NeoGAF gets a percentage if you buy something after you go there. It doesn't have any sort of negative hit for you, just supports the site transparently if you leave it enabled. It doesn't add any new hyperlinks like some of those services can do, and it's not like typical affiliate linking where people are spamming links with any sort of agenda and you can't necessarily trust their motives; the links are just the links created by the users as they discuss things.

Keep in mind that banner ads on NeoGAF have absolutely dismal performance since no one clicks on them and tons of people use adblock, and that's all we've got, normally. And that's declining despite the site getting much larger. We don't have subscriptions or membership payments, no donations, no reskins. And that's intentional due to my philosophies with running the site, but it's kind of dangerous to only have one crappy source that fluctuates heavily seasonally or based on what company is willing to work with you.

NeoGAF gets rejected by almost every high quality ad network due to a) being a forum, and b) having too much "adult content," since my policies are not as strict as they could be, but that's my preference. Still, I have high standards for what sorts of advertising can show up, which means that there are barely any ad networks that we can use. In January I had to kill a major contract we had with a gaming ad network due to popups and redirects coming up <1% of the time that couldn't be addressed fast enough by their campaign management. It's important to me that the ads stay high quality and totally non-malicious, but that meant a tremendous hit to us by giving it up.

I can understand this viglink stuff being bothersome to an extremely small subset of users, potentially, if you're on a really slow computer or slow internet connection or old browser or something and you notice the redirect so it's not seamless. That's cool. Check out the privacy policy page, which has a link to viglink and an explanation of what it does; there's an opt-out link there that should disable it on your computer, or you can noscript or adblock if you must, just like you can always do if you actively don't want to support the 100% free website that you're using.

The philosophy is to keep NeoGAF completely free to use and with unobtrusive monetization. By keeping this functionality on, >99% of you will have absolutely no impact to your experience with the site -- I do not notice it in action whatsoever and this thread with some people wondering took days to even come up -- and it potentially could do well and keep NeoGAF safe financially as it continues to grow more and more ridiculously large and we look to add better hardware, more features (I have a Who Quoted Me custom implementation coming, but that has substantial server overhead...), etc.

Anyone here who has been to a speed dating event before? If so, how was it? I'm considering going to one soon. If you've got any recommendations for speed dating in England (North West), I'd love to hear that too.

I'm looking for a rock song that was popular in the 90s (but it might be from the 80s as well, they just often played it in the radio back then). Unfortunately I don't remember anything beside some vague lyrics, it sounded like "Violate it, Violate it" or "Violated, Violated" to me as a kid, but I didn't speak any english back then. I think that it sounded similar to Europe's "The Final Countdown", and had a fairly long instrumental intro. Anyone got a faint idea of what it could be?

Stuck Mojo has a song called Violated that came out in the 90's. I don't know where you're from, but I doubt it ever played on Canadian radio. It has an instrumental intro as well.

Edit: actually I think it might be Demonoid Phenomenon by Rob Zombie?

I'm looking for an SNL sketch where a guy monologues (in his head) about how to look interested in what's being said during a boardroom meeting. I think it was from the 90s era.

I bet this has been asked quite frequently, but when I control + f "member," you can only imagine how many there are per page between one's member status and words like remember.

Sooo - How do I get promoted from Junior?

when rooting for a team, why do we chant let's go??

Is there an implied action in there? Let's go (win this game) New York!! cha cha chacha cha

A little bit of googling got me this:
The OED gives, as meaning 19b (out of a whopping 48, most with subparts) of the word go, "To be successful, meet with applause or support." The earliest citation of this use, from 1742, is "You must not tip us the Traveller; it won't go here." It may be that the imperative in "Go X!" is an exhortation for X to go in this sense (even though the more general use seems to have died out).
Which isn't enormously enlightening, but is the most likely of the various etymologies I found. (can't double-check it, as I don't have an OED subscription) From "go team x" it's a simple step to "let's go x."

When is Google's next 7inch tablet coming out?
What are the latest rumours regarding £99 tablets from the big guys?

Interesting! Thanks.

Situation:

Family's using a super-shit wireless router. It does the job for them. I dare not fuck with it, but want to use mine while I'm here.

Is there any way for me to attach mine to that router directly (via ethernet), thereby allowing my devices to connect to it wirelessly without interfering at all with their shitty router and the connections to it?

It's from the Sonic the Hedgehog comic.

Yeah now I remember. It might have been a children's book actually. I remember the picture from my childhood and I remember having a Sonic book growing up, this probably about 15 years ago. Thanks a lot!

I got another one:

Moby_play.JPG

Anyone know what that thing on the bottom left is?

It's a light meter.

How do I know if a site that sells stuff is legit? I found provedic.com which is selling some medicine I need pretty cheap, is it safe to order from them?

I need help figuring out the name of these cookie things that I used to see in grocery stores in Northern California. They looked like a large drop of frosting and they came in white, pink, and yellow flavor. I used to buy them all the time but the name escapes me.

Jacobs ice gems?

What is the best DownThemAll! alternative for Chrome? Already tried "Download Master" but while it "works" it isn't exactly doing it great (no image preview for starters).

How do they go about making 5.1 and/or 7.1 tracks for really old movies? It seems like at least some of the Blu-rays I have must have been from before 5.1 surround sound was really prevalent in theaters instead of Dolby Stereo. Are they actually remixing things or just sort of cheating in some way?

My question would be...in movies when there's a scene when a woman is giving birth an dthey show the baby having just emerged, is it a real baby? Do they have someone at the hospital with a camera waiting for any random person to give birth to go in and borrow baby to film? Those babies look mighty young and real.

The babies are older, they cover them in something oily and make the scene short. In my experience, they do look older... but they probably do something to make them look younger. Newer films might use CGI like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jj4JREvwloo

It's possible to convert most routers to switches (just a setting, nothing permanent). That'd do what you're asking for.

I've been trying to use my cell phone carrier's prepaid website to add more money to my account but I can't get past this random error screen. I've tried it on my phone, computer and tablet but no dice. I can't seem to not get the error.

The website address is prepaidselfserve.koodomobile.com, could someone check to see if it's just my ISP having issues or if it's just the website?

Works fine for me.
I'm so confused why it's not working then. It was working fine for me last week and then randomly started giving me that error. Could someone who understands this stuff explain what the error is saying? Is there anything on my end I can do?

Clear cookies etc. stuff from your browser.
If that doesn't work, i don't know what will.

EDIT actually, go ahead and do that but i don't expect it will work. I can't access the site, getting the same error.

So I'm not alone on the issue then? I got scared it was an ISP problem or something and was just boned.

Nope. I guess.
I just tried the link to see if the site worked or not.
No idea what the site is...

Did you try different browser? What browser you tried? (I tried on Chrome) EDIT oh, based on the screencap, you tried Chrome, right?
EDIT have the same issue with IE (no idea which version).
