I think what's making Courtney's performance work is that he's not supposed to be even sort of likable. Captain Boomerang is an irredeemable DICKWEED. He's not sympathetic, he's not charming, he's just a colossal asshole all of the time.

And it appears that Courtney can cover that ground just fine, regardless of his previous roles.
 
I do hope it's not as safe as Guardians Of The Galaxy. When all was said and done with cute little character comedy moments, that was a pretty predictable superhero movie with listless action. Hopefully, David Ayer brings the action filmmaking chomps up a level from most superhero movies.

He's not really wrong that the film is aping the successful "un-heroic band of misfits must save the day from a greater evil" GOTG outline, but I think there's room for two comic book film like this, especially when this one isn't starring anti-heroes but straight up villains forced into doing good.
 
Holy crap. WB get whoever just made that trailer to cut the next Dawn of Justice trailer. That was a work of art.

Who is the villain? That weird black stuff, Trigon or something?

I love the aura effect around Enchantress in the trailer. I'm also really glad that Katana's sword is the way it actually should be. I was hoping WB/DC would be embracing magic outright and looks like they are.
 
Looks like a hell of a ride. Can't wait for this to drop. Sucks that we have to wait until August though.

I'm curious how this trailer would have been taken if they hadn't chosen Bohemian Rhapsody for the music and went for a more serious/dark comedy vibe...

Well the first trailer did that and it was generally pretty well received.

Considering it's the base outline for both series at their core conception, it's not really aping.

Courtney's been pretty (really) bland in his more recent roles. This is actually a bit of a surprise in that he stands out - in a great way.
 
The BVS trailers since the comic con one have been abhorrent.
I can't believe Snyder has made bad trailers. He's usually on point.
Let's hope it translates in to a good movie.

Because for the last four years or so he's seemingly been in everything as an extremely boring and bland block. I've never seen him in anything where he was anything other than bad, if not terrible.

This trailer is the first time I've seen him look entertaining.

At a core level, probably because BvS simply has too much to do and got overstuffed, while this is a team movie with a lighter tone and other than the introduction of the DCEU's Joker, seems fairly standalone and self-contained.

When you're not having to serve so many masters it helps the film a lot.

Although, I do not think this is as self-contained as it initially looks.

We know that Batman is hopping around, and there is rumor that
Grayson
may be involved as well.
 
My most anticipated comic book movie. Trailer is excellent! This is like Guardians of the Galaxy but with interesting and fun characters.

I've come to realize that this isn't really the version of the Joker that I'd prefer and that's OK. Leto seems to be doing a good job and I'll probably enjoy it anyway for what it is.

On a different note, the overwhelming positive reaction in this thread goes to show you that gaf really doesn't have some innate bias against DC or a desire to see their cinematic universe fail. It's just a matter of whether or not what they put out actually looks good to most people. If there is a bias, it's against Zack Snyder, but that's born from years of most of those same people who rag on BvS having been disappointed with Snyder's movies in the past.

1. He's dressed like Joker.
2.You can't really read his tattoos, they look like scars, so the 'damaged' thing becomes a distant memory.

Essentially, they're showing you the opposite of what they showed in his reveal, that's why you like it now.
