From Oscar-winning director Clint Eastwood (“American Sniper,” “Million Dollar Baby”) comes Warner Bros. Pictures’ drama “Sully,” starring Oscar winner Tom Hanks (“Bridge of Spies,” “Forrest Gump”) as Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger.

On January 15, 2009, the world witnessed the “Miracle on the Hudson” when Captain “Sully” Sullenberger glided his disabled plane onto the frigid waters of the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 aboard. However, even as Sully was being heralded by the public and the media for his unprecedented feat of aviation skill, an investigation was unfolding that threatened to destroy his reputation and his career.

“Sully” also stars Aaron Eckhart (“Olympus Has Fallen,” “The Dark Knight”) as Sully’s co-pilot, Jeff Skiles, and Oscar nominee Laura Linney (“The Savages,” “Kinsey,” Showtime’s “The Big C”) as Sully’s wife, Lorraine Sullenberger.

Eastwood is directing the film from a screenplay by Todd Komarnicki, based on the book Highest Duty by Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow. The project is being produced by Eastwood, Frank Marshall, Allyn Stewart and Tim Moore, with Kipp Nelson and Bruce Berman serving as executive producers.

The film reunites Eastwood with several of his longtime collaborators, who most recently worked with the director on the worldwide hit “American Sniper”: director of photography Tom Stern and production designer James J. Murakami, who were both Oscar-nominated for their work on “The Changeling”; costume designer Deborah Hopper; and editor Blu Murray.

I wouldn't have thought that story warranted a sequel, but it looks like they treat the Captain's story after the incident with respect.

Gonna hope Laura Linney does more than be crying supportive wife

I do like the trend of Tom Hanks, that national treasure of Americana, seems to be spending the later years of his career playing American heroes, between this, Capt. Phillips, and James Donovan in Bridge of Spies.

Immediately though of Victor Sullivan and realized T. Hanks would make an excellent Sulley.

Huh, that's a way more interesting take on the story than simply the overly patriotic, feel good recreation of the event that I assumed it would be.

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
This actually looks pretty good. I was expecting something extremely cookie cutter, but this looks like it's dealing more with the aftermath and investigation.

Fun fact, pretty much all of the film was shot with the Alexa IMAX camera, the same one they used for the airport sequence in Civil War (for those unaware, they're digital.)

I don't see how this story deserved a movie.

I imagine something incredibly dull and boring, Clint Eastwood-style.

we can get 20 marvel and dc movies a year but the dude who landed a plane in the Hudson can't catch a break.

doesn't particularly interest me but let the guy eat breh.

What are the stakes here? Everyone lives.

The pilot's reputation.

The second half of that trailer veered real close to sounding like a remake of Flight. Even being based on real events this movie seems a little contrived, like it's desperately reaching for some drama to throw on the screen.

Huh, I guess I didn't follow the story close enough when it happened, I didn't realize the pilot was investigated for being at fault, I just heard he was a hero and that's it.

I was waiting for the "We had 10 other pilots fly the same scenario in simulators. They all crashed! You're the only one who could land that plane!" line

Didn't think it was possible to stretch this real-life event out to a feature length movie, but Hollywood does it again.

Another good trailer from Warner Bros.

The 'Brace, Brace, Brace' works really well.

I'm curious, much more than I thought I'd be to be honest.

Didn't they already make a movie about this guy, a few years ago?

You're thinking of Jaws 2.

same here

I'm pretty sure this is mostly Hollywood pap; afaik the investigation after the fact concluded that it was possible he could have made a different call -- to go back to the airport and land -- but that his decision to bail into the Hudson was fine. He also apparently made a brief cell phone call to mission control that had no impact on the safety of the flight despite being technically not ok. Every regulatory body that looked into the circumstances lauded him after the fact.

I don't really understand the tone of the trailer when everything after the incident praised him as a hero. I mean, if some pricks wanted to take his license or not let him fly their planes again it doesn't change that the man was one of the most universally praised people in recent memory. It feels like a movie needing to fill a lot of running time when the event was short and undisputed. Still, they know what they're doing and I might see it for Hanks.

Looks pretty good. If IMDb's tech specs are correct the film was shot with the Alexa IMAX (used for Civil War's airport scene) and the Alexa 65 (used for parts of The Revenant). Should be spectacular in IMAX.

IMDb says the IMAX version will also be in 1.9:1 AR too.

All that's left is Martin Luther King Jr.
