I want to watch the third season of Monster Rancher. Actually I want to rewatch season 1 and 2 also.

Such great childhood memories.

But, they never really released any dvd's. ;-;

Can anyone pm me some info if they have experience with Monster Rancher? Or do a little searching?

Besides Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, what series are there for folks with functioning penis and testosterone? Nothing? Thanks again Japan.

Meh, this season sucks. There's nothing interesting at all. Except Zetsubou Sensei and maybe Canaan and Tokyo Magnitude. Other than that, it's time to catch up some last season's shows.
That is exactly what crap seasons are for. There is without a doubt excellent stuff you haven't gotten around to yet, and now you have more time to do so!

Maybe even Fnord will get caught up.

Some "corrections" *cough*, Canaan doesn't follow the story of 428 at all, so the summary of the game is pointless.

Once again, I have been cruelly mislead by the Anime News Network. Thanks for the update.

I was hoping for this. I loved your Spring 2009 thread. Keep up the good work with future seasons, FnordChan.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words! Hopefully I'll actually get around to doing the Fall thread less than a week before the season starts.

You didn't mention Haruhi ! That's basically a summer show, started off in May anyway.

I based my list off the Fansub Wiki listing, which is why stuff like the new Haruhi episodes and Summer Wars didn't show up. Everyone is encouraged to hold forth on anything I missed or left out.

That's crazy talk!

There's always good stuff in the past to catch up and enjoy. Just finished Natsume Yuujinchou myself, and will follow with Zoku. It's good emotional stuff.

Zan, Spice, Bakemonogatari, Canaan, Taisho are what I'll be watching, in addition to Valkyria and Haruhi from last season.

For the despairing folk (Zan SZS), there's a trailer and a 30 second clip of the new OP music. HT: nyontaka.net.

Wow, for the first time nothing really interest me at all.
Not even the baseball one? We're never going to get a proper conclusion to Princess Nine, so this will have to do.

And where's the next season of Oofuri anyway? Isn't there enough manga material for one yet?

What the fuck is wrong with you people? This is probably the best summer season we've seen in ages. Definitely the best so far this year that's for sure.

Maybe not the best, but some of them look to be entertaining enough.

I have such a huge anime backlist. Every anime that exists feels worth checking out at least once and that's pretty damn overwhelming.

I have never seen a single season where people don't complain about how this season sucks, sight unseen, and there is nothing worth watching.

I can only conclude that a great number of people in this thread are tsundere for anime.

Yandere would be a far more accurate description...

From first glance a couple seem interesting..

I really want to check out the Astronomy one.
There is always one or two that surprises me.

Great thread FnordChan!

I'll check Aoi Hana, Canaan, Umineko, Sora no Manimani, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 and Zetsubou Sensei.

It'll probably be down to Tokyo Magnitude and Umineko by the end of the season.

I would have to agree that this is the best summer season we've had so far this year. :D

TM8, Cobra (which you CURIOUSLY OMITTED, should be a tv series starting this season), and Bakemonogatari for me.

I am super psyched for Bakemonogatari. In Shinbo I trust. Won't be checking out SzS until I get through the first few seasons, which I have not.

Cobra was delayed to 2010.

Question, last season I eyed a couple of shows that interested me but I didn't have much time to watch them.

So, how did these shows turn out?

Souten Kouro
Ristorante Paradiso
MAZINGER Z - watching this anyway
Cross Game
Shangra-La
Sengoku Basara

Eden of the East and FMA2 I gotta catch up on.

Sengoku Basara was nice, still haven't finished it (on ep 10), but I'm really liking it.
Also, you should probably try Ristorante Paradiso, I think it was nicely done, but I dropped it since it wasn't really my type.

Tokyo Magnitude looks promising. Moreso than Fight Ippatsu! which when I first saw the artwork I thought was going to be something I liked. Having seen a trailer though, my expectations have dipped.

Ah well, I've got some Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood to catch up on.

(When is another FLCL going to come along, sheesh.)
(And I really want to get into Zetsubou, but it all happens so fast! And I feel like I'm missing a lot of the little references. The artwork is really something though.)

maybe you just have shitty taste.

After years of watching animes shit just starts to all look the same and the truly memorable anime shows only come once every couple seasons.

Shangri-la I like it. It's a bit weird and all, but that weirdness is what I like, plus it has char design from Range Murata, so i'd like and watch it even if it was complete shit.
Cross Game is good, you should watch it (and buy the manga if it is published in your country!).

Zetsubou Sense is the only one that interests me... but it'll probably be mediocre, because they've beaten the concept forcefully into the ground by now.

Oh, Japan... why do you crank out the exact same shows season after season? You guys used to innovate...

Yes, I will happily come back for another helping of So Long, Mr. Despair.

Aoi Hana is pushing my buttons, so I'll give it a shot. TM8.0 seems promising. Seems like most of the shows I really care about these days are either in the NOISE or Noitamina slots.

The rest should be left to rot. I mean, wow. What trash. Moeblobs everywhere.

You really don't want to watch them. That said, the first one is kinda sorta decent-ish, I suppose. You can watch that somewhere around...episode 95 or so, I think.

Spoilering it just to cover all my bases.

1st movie - after Naruto learns Rasengan (post Chuunin exam arc probably best).

2nd movie - After the arc where Sasuske decides to bugger off.

3rd movie - anytime during the 80+ eps of filler.

Bah the way you bolded Naruto makes me assume you just mean when they're kids, but if you're not...

Shippuuden movie 1 - After the Gaara recue arc.

Shippuden Movie 2 - Haven't seen this myself yet, but I think it's supposed to be setup after Sasuske betrays Oro even though it was released months before that episode happened just last week thanks to that awful shitty too long Crystal Ninja filler arc.

I'm on episode 15. lol. So, I really don't understand anything you said.

Whew at least it shows I didn't spoil too much then. :)

Can't remember the episode numbers specifically so just look out for those "flags", while you're watching.

Err, did they really? Honestly?

I think when anime was hitting the scene and all throughout the 90's henceforth, we had the luxury of going through Japan's awesome back catalog and also the pleasure of not being exposed to every stinking show they made over there. Really, only now, with the internet, do we get to see every show every season, so the crap to quality ratio we get now is higher than it used to be and we've also sort of caught up, with pretty much everything of value done in the past has either been officially released in our own country or subbed by someone.

So I believe the idea that Japan used to be producing more better stuff each season is just looking at the past with rose tinted glasses.

I imagine, that if there are countries where American TV is subbed or dubbed, that it'd be a similar situation. I'd bet that the foreign companies would pick our strongest shows and maybe some good shows from our past that hadn't been released in that country yet while leaving most of our shit alone, giving the impression that American TV is all kinds of awesome when in truth most of it sucks.

Also since most of us probably started watching in our teens I really feel like a lot of the shows we think are cool, really weren't that cool.

Kinda like say how Project A-Ko is to me. I love that movie and it really hits me with a sense of nostalgia when I watch it or hear some of the music, but I bet if the first time I had ever seen it had been this year or a few years ago I'd be complaining over what a waste those hours were and damning the weirdo who made such a thing.

So really, Japan's just another normal country with a high shit to quality ratio when it comes to their tv.

First episode of Aoi Hana was a bit of a snoozefest. Not liking the voice actors for the 2 main leads either.

It did look pretty though (aside from a couple CG bits). It's doing the pastel thing much better than Honey and Clover, imo.

How many of you still watching anime are over age 25? I keep trying to find something that appeals to me to get back in, but it seems like every season there is nothing. Seems like everything being made is either for kids or creepy otaku guys.

Same thing with Jrpgs.

I just started last year, so I suppose I'm enjoying everything because it's all new.

I like how in sports anime (that I've seen anyway), the "bad guys" get as much play as the heroes, to the point where you're not even sure who you want to win any more.
Case in point is Cross Game, where it's not a hard line drawn between the farm team and the starters.

But yeah, there are a lot of shows that I watch where I suffer through the fanservice. I could probably be fine if I never saw another cartoon panty shot for the rest of my life.

Turning 26 this year, been watching anime (when I knew it was termed anime) for over a decade and I haven't ever stopped. There will always be years and seasons when there is nothing but mediocrity, but then flashes of brilliance come about that makes me appreciate why I watch the things I do.

The best advice I can give you is to take note of staff and production companies of things you enjoyed watching. I'd swallow anything Kamiyama does because I enjoyed Mini-Pato and adored GITS:SAC & Moribito, hence my bordering-on-madness approach towards Eden of the East last year leading into the air date.

The last few years have been pretty bad. There was never a ton of shows that came out each year that I liked a lot, but last year saw only one and there has yet to be a show of significant interest out this year.

Frankly, I've found live-action TV shows (not Japanese) to be a much better source of entertainment for a quite a while now. Once you get past the novelty of anime, you see that for the most part, the medium's flexibility is rarely utilized (see the endless number of shows in a school setting).

Also, ALL studios are hit and miss. They all push out a dud every once and a while or stray from their more interesting styles (the latter being quite subjective, of course).

That's kind of funny, because after the shitfest that was BSG and Lost, I was completely burned out on American TV and found a new spark in anime.

Shows like Aria and Planetes would never be made on American TV and the crazy way Haruhi launched its second season would never even be considered by an American producer. Can you imagine someone demanding that their season premiere be buried within reruns? Big balls.

But then again, I guess you can get tired of anything if you watch it enough. Maybe in a few years I'll get tired of anime and switch back to Law and Order CSI Sacramento.
