I suppose the violence is tied up to the fact that it really was just an excuse to show things that really didn't matter. It went from being the final evolution of Shinji's character and his decision regarding Instrumentality to painfully spelling out what happened during the events of the last two episodes.

Although, maybe it was needed, because apparently people still believe that the in the TV series,
Shinji accepts Instrumentality.
Which is just insane to me, but anime (fans).

My understanding is that the common interpretation of the OG series is that Shinji does indeed accept Instrumentality.

I just felt like it took the subtlety out of the TV ending and by producing a movie that was half an action film and half a generic mind-fuck scifi film.

But at least they filmed that live action segment for the film... even if they didn't use it. lol

You're just yuri-goggling every single woman in the world, aren't you? lol

Well got back to watching Natsu no Arashi. Oh yes at Kaya x Jun. Then the goggles were ripped off and run over by an 18-wheeler.

Understandable, and that's what I meant by extremes. The TV ending represents the kind of subtlety that can result from a very constrained budget, while the movie represents the opposite.

I can see why people would think that if they didn't quite understand what the Human Instrumentality Project was.

But yes, it's a curse.

NOT.

Yes, I found that out by listening to that Evangelion episode of the ANNCast. I don't see how it's even remotely possible to come to that conclusion based on what not only happens in the last two episodes, but in the series as a whole, but then again, I'm not a "true" Eva/anime fan.

Indeed!

That's fair. I just prefer being asked to think rather than have someone hand everything on a plate.

I suppose it's as if someone remade 2001: A Space Odyssey and decided to explain what happens in the final act of that movie.

From what I understand, the book does that, so it's basically a reverse situation. Personally, I really don't care for 2001: A Space Odyssey. I lost all interest when Kubrick decided to take that hit of acid.
There should be more Democrat x Republican pairings.
The sexual tension would be crazy.

Hoooo-lyyyy shittttt.....

Ok, I have been keeping up with Naruto for a while now because it's quite entertaining even if the story has become a tangled mess. Up until now hundreds of characters have been introduced, each with some wild powers and whatever. But I have been ok with it, mainly because the show tries to give some back story as to why they have this weird ass power or whatever.

Lately though there has been some weird ass shit happening and I think my patience has worn thin. I mean, I was able to endure the introduction of a rapping octopus and a dude that could break down anything into particles.

But after I watched this week's episode, that's it. I can't accept this. This is just plain old stupid. There was no explanation behind this. I mean, you expect me to accept that there are two guys whose powers rely on finding out which word someone uses most and then defeat them once it is uttered...

That's beyond fucking stupid. Add to this the fact that they have the powers of the Nine Tails for some shitty reason... I just dunno, fuck it. I give up. I actually had to check the internet to see if this was a filler, at least that way there is some justification behind it. But no, I guess the writer of the manga is just fed up and wants to see how much dumb shit can be added before the series just dies.

Those two and their weapons are based on characters from The Journey to the West, I believe. I didn't think they were any worse than a lot of other mind-game type powers you see in battle shounen, cf. Yu Kaito's Taboo word ability in Yu Yu Hakusho.

So from the first episode of Uta Koi, is it a romance anime with some comedic moments or the romance with tragedy type like you'd expect from historical romance?

Heroman 5

Guitar Psy was pretty epic as well as his rollerboard tricks. I think we need more skateboarding anime characters, actually, all Ive encounterd have been awesome (Pokemon Adventures, Killua, and now Psy). Psy's hair is also interesting. I never fail to chuckle when it takes up the entire screen of any close up they give him.

That shocking ending though
Her brother, the Skrugg are actually humans, what even?!

Heroman 6

Mindblown when they revealed where they were heading and what not. Dr. Minami looks pretty wicked.
Hope Heroman/Joey gets a powerup, they keep struggling against foes and the preview...well they seem to still struggle against Nick

The background music is nice and the ending is finally growing on me, I actually like the comic book them they have going on, especially when they are playing the instruments.

Finished watching Haibane Renmei. Such a suitable ending,
just as though the story will continue as it began
. I cannot wait to own this later in the year when FUNi is able to re-release it.

While reading impressions this morning, I came across wonzo's of this and what stood out to me was the quote of this being the perfect OVA. I'd been in the mood for something self-contained and well done after far too much stuff I've watched recently that are compressed adaptations or adaptations that require external knowledge of a franchise. Thankfully, I got exactly what I wanted from this and it was fucking amazing. This is better than most action films I've seen and it was exciting start to finish, especially once the plot began to unfold and the strange scene in the opening getaway is given some context. Don't even get me started on how beautifully animated the cars were.

Lupin III: Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna 10-13 (END):

zZ57c.jpg

At least it managed to look like stylish classic Lupin for about three seconds!

What a disaster.

In the course of four episodes, the following insane shit dominates the finale:

Lupin discovers that the owl men (who are actual OWL MEN) are behind some kind of narcotic conspiracy and gets in a fight with some illusory security guards who are still somehow capable of HARMING HIM

Lupin has a conversation with the ghost (who isn't actually a ghost) of a scientist who experimented on children for Luis Yu Almeida, which then leads to a creepy hallucinogenic trip into the dark recesses of Fujiko's childhood, which then spits him out in an abandoned factory in an abandoned town

Oscar goes batshit because he can't get Zenigata's cock and an insultingly unsubtle story about Oscar's homosexuality unfolds in which he pretends to be Fujiko to get Zenigata's attention which ends in him trying to drown/blow himself up

The entire gang ends up at a creepy abandoned amusement park created by Almeida and designed with his fixation on little girls in mind and everyone wanders around aimlessly in a gratuitous slideshow of background porn which ends with Lupin and Jigen fighting OWL MEN on a rollercoaster and Fujiko getting trapped in a room full of naked mannequins/clones/whateverthefucktheyare based on her physical appearance

Oscar is back in drag and STILL wants to kill Zenigata because he's a batshit insane bastard

Lupin and Fujiko discover that Almeida has been dead the whole time and the emaciated catatonic body of one of his child experiments from decades ago is actually controlling everything from behind the scenes with the use of a psychically-controlled futuristic supercomputer with some stupid motive that I can't even remember now

something something psychic coma girl's mother is one of the owl men something something

THE WHOLE FUCKING SERIES OF FLASHBACKS ESTABLISHING THE FACT THAT FUJIKO WAS EXPERIMENTED ON AS A CHILD WERE FAKE AND IMPLANTED OVER HER REAL MEMORIES BY ALMEIDA WHEN SHE WAS CAPTURED WHILE TRYING TO STEAL SOMETHING. FUJIKO SUDDENLY REGAINS HER MEMORIES AND SHE NEVER HAD A TRAGIC PAST WHATSOEVER, SHE ACTUALLY DOES JUST STEAL AND FUCK AND LIVE DANGEROUSLY FOR THE HELL OF IT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHFJGFHJFHGHGHFGH

Do I even need to explain why all of this is really, really, really stupendously terrible? Really, ultimately Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna's worst crime wasn't that it was convoluted or even outright deceptive (I'm looking at you,
flashbacks and ED
), but that it just simply wasn't fun. It was the antithesis of everything that made classic Lupin III enjoyable--it was too self-serious, introspective, melodramatic, artificial, and generally ignorant of the qualities that made the characters so endearing in the first place. There was none of the joy, camp, energy, novelty, and charisma that I expect from Lupin III, its cast, and its narratives. The attempt to add "maturity" resulted in a lifelessly overwrought production that, even without taking into consideration the snowballing levels of narrative insanity, was one of the most emotionless anime viewing experiences I've ever had. What a terrible, terrible disappointment.

I'll be watching The Castle of Cagliostro for the first time some time this week to purge this from memory.

Chiyu is the most inappropriate friend ever. Poor Cartman.

Yeah, right.

I like Lime Bell.
It's bizarre how terribly unaware of MMORPG tropes these guys are considering the world they live in, haha. The character is named "Bell" and uses a special move that makes a target sparkle. I WONDER WHAT IT IS.

A pretty tame episode after the last two... But that was expected. At least they're don't seem to be losing focus.

The more I think about the show, the more I wish the overarching plot was never put into place. I'm also wrestling with the notion that the ending should have been obvious to me for
continuity reasons
as well.
Maybe the relief I felt at Fujiko ending as she began rather than being some abused kid was the intention in the end. lol :(
As for the missing fun as it were, I had a similar feeling. Lupin's smile at the end chasing Fujiko that some found ugly struck me as a sort of bridge to the more fun side of Lupin, a strong visual cue that "the drama stops here."

Yeah, I'm honestly really torn about
Fujiko's childhood memories being fake
. It was a really terrible thing to do to the audience, but at the same time I did rail for the entirety of the series against
Fujiko being emotionally damaged/physically abused, which I felt was a sexist depiction of her and a lazy way to characterize any female character. I thought that a.) it played into the "hysteric" stereotype, as she was both the only female thief and the only character who stole for underlying emotional reasons, and b.) there appeared to be a need to somehow "justify" her greed and promiscuity, because a woman enjoying these things for their own sake is taboo
.

You know, I really liked Lupin's smile in the final scene as well. In the closing minutes after the burden of the plot was fully lifted from the series, I saw a glimmer of what could have been. I was wondering if the end of this series was going to directly segue into the beginning of Lupin Series I (I was so desperately hoping that there was a racecar in the back of Jigen's truck), but at the very least it certainly did feel like a symbolic transition into the more carefree atmosphere of classic Lupin.

I had a similar feeling there too but with Fujiko's motorcycle. I checked immediately after in the hopes it was the same one she was riding in the 1971 ED but alas.

Amusingly enough, I didn't know there was a healer shortage/drama in this game as well. Still think the virtual stuff is surprisingly good.

Haru is growing on me.

e: the idea of someone as clingy and obsessive as Chiyu being granted such a demanding role sure sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. I wonder if this is where all the RAGE will come from.

e2: dat feel when I check a spoiler and realize with a horror that is is going to turn into Bleach

Ignoring some silly, though really timid fanservicy moments (laser censor over a panty shot), I think this was actually kind of good. Yume was just so hilarious, and the whole Yaoi Stick thing with him and Yuuki, had me in tears. Bless their hearts, that was hilarious. Yume and Yuuki are definitely the best characters in it, good dude duo this season.

The drama of the first two minutes was intense as was the actual election stuff. I like school settings so Im curious how it goes, and food (candy) is always good. Glad I checked it out.

Oh and for the animation, lots of moments really look like those static 2d cutscenes in games, or something about the way its done feels that way.
