Define 'ok'. Dusk Maiden looked good but that's because they went for a style which required very little, er animation.

They could always get someone like, say, Yasuhiro Okuda to help with the most actiony episodes.

Besides, I'm pretty sure this show will have a higher budget than Tasogare Otome.

I swear, in 10 years, someone will make a version of Genshiken where watching anime and reading manga is actually celebrated. That'll be the singularity point of otaku culture.

Surely you mean 'only celebrated', right? Because Genshiken was realistic about otaku culture, but it was never all-out dismissive of it like you're implying.

Type-Moon Fes Day 2 just announced details on the Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya anime:

Director: Shin Oonuma
Animation Production: Silver Link

It will be released in 2013.

Lololololololol. Silver Link. LOL.

OK, time to just read the manga, screw Silver Link.

Higher budget doesn't necessarily mean better animation or production values. If you have the same staff then there's a limit to their abilities which isn't affected by spending more money because it's not like that gets spent on the animators anyway.

SAO needs some repeated temporary, bad textures and odd quest dialogue.

It also needs an episode where all they do is kill 50 boars over and over again for XP.

hmmm... how many recent mmos are there without magic?

Depends on whether you only consider MMOs in fantasy/medieval settings or not. EVE Online springs to mind here. Action titles like PlanetSide and the ill-fated APB didn't have it either. Technically you don't use magic in LOTRO, since it's not really present in Middle-Earth for everybody outside a handful of individuals.

I can't tell whether Sword Art Online is actually watchable or not based on the posts in this thread.

The first episode was really good.

It may or may not fall from grace depending on how they adapt the source material's harem nature, but for now it's definitely worth checking out. I don't know why exactly people started picking on the show, but if you go back a couple of pages you'll notice multiple posts with positive impressions of the debut.

Wow, I honestly don't even know where to begin. What an incredible film.

I think I first time I understood that I'd be in for something truly special was the scenes at the beginning of the film with
Yang, Jean and Jessica that started in the Airport and ended in a dejected Yang sitting in a bar looking down at his own reflection in his drink. The way in which these scenes conveyed the emotions and feelings of the characters without even hearing a single word said until the very end and relying purely on the visuals and the soundtrack was masterfully done. Even when considering that any show/film worth its salt should be able to pull of something like that effectively this really did go above and beyond the pale.

Now, if there's something than I didn't really like about this film it was the way in-which Jean Roberts death was built up, it felt incredibly predictable even if it got to me. The scene with the picture of him, Jessica and Yang falling over and leaving a crack in the glass over Jeans face felt really dumb and the movie would've been better off without it. Saying that, it didn't at all stop me from finding the following scenes in which Yang saves the 6th fleet from annihilation to be truly fascinating. The way in which he managed to turn the tables in the most dire of circumstances was an absolute joy to watch unfold.

I also found the political machinations behind Reinhard's rise to power and the backroom scheming to get rid of him incredible engaging. It not yet entirely sure of the relationship between him, his sister and Kircheis just yet but I'm sure the main series will do a great job of fleshing that out in the future. I also found the soundtrack composed entirely of classical music to help add a great deal to the overall experience.

If this is the kind of quality that I can expect from LoGH then I honestly can't even begin to imagine just how incredible the series must be as a whole. I'll probably end up watching the first two episodes anyway thanks to both my completionist streak but also a curiosity in just what was added and how it'll effect the way I experience the series. I'm hopeful that Yang will manage to overcome the inherently flawed nature of Democracy now that
he's commanding a fleet of his own
.

And more importantly, does this make Kamisama no Memochou the best or worst recent detective show given its refusal to follow the ALL-SEEING EYE trend?
don't even joke about such a horrifying thought

but they are selling it with the game, see pic :p
i dont really see how that's any different from move/kinect game bundles!

God damn it.

If you don't have some kind of MMO-phobia, watch the first episode.

SHAFT wouldn't have any idea how to make a show like that without animating any of it. There is a lot of action in this one.

I'm happy that SHAFT has with Kizumonogatari and Madoka more interesting projects than a Fate spin-off

This third test is good stuff, man.
Daaaaamn. That caught me off-guard. I was thinking, "Pft, how dense are these guys for not figuring out it was JAXA that broke their clock?!" during the entire episode, and then... Haha.
Really looking forward to next week's showing. So much that I didn't even watch the preview!

That brown-haired guy from Team B is such an ass. Jesus.

And I think I want to try a
white jigsaw puzzle
myself just for the sake of it.

Speaking of South Park, I hope the RPG rocks, because Obsidian Entertainment rocks.

I've definitely been encouraged by all the positive feedback it seems to be getting. The humour looks intact, which is the main thing.

The only minus is the previous cavalcade of absolute shit that has been released with the South Park name on it. But I at least trust Obsidian to have the gameplay elements on lock.

The new opening is good, although I did enjoy the first one more. Don't care about the ED.
The episode itself was pretty good, a nice setup for things to come.

There's 11 more episodes, and they still need to beat three more miracle generation players. Is it possible to fit all of that in the remaining episodes, manga readers? How far along is the manga anyway?

There was apparently a panel on Day 2 with Aniplex's Katsumata Hideo, but the Q&A session turned out to be people mostly asking about any kind of Ao no Exorcist sequel. (Obvious answer: "if the movie does well.") Again, I wasn't there myself.

Didnt know a Seed movie was coming, could always have more Kira and Athrun, etc.

They should put off Ao no Exorcist for as long as possible, there are really like two arcs that could be done by the time they get to working on it again. (well I need to read the new chapter, but still)

It's a shame that the preview for this episode basically covered the main points leaving hardly any surprises until the last second. But there were a few little details scattered throughout, like
JAXA revealing that they know Mutta saw the clock on the coach and it was a deliberate trick
. So the story continues. Next week look more eventful.

And I think I want to try a

myself just for the sake of it.

HA HA. I was thinking the same thing while watching this episode.

I hope we get a second season, I do want to see Kise play again, however with two left, and Kise its like they'd have to do some really short games or something.

Wow, I honestly don't even know where to begin. What an incredible film.

Someone is finally watching the series in the order that I and other's have suggested. Yay!

I suppose I should let you know that the series isn't really up to the same level as the film, but that's just something that you'll have to accept.

without spoilers... no, 11 eps is not enough.

Its will need continuation that for sure.

The anime just covered 40 chapter around 180+ chapter so far

Sword Art Online 1

While I still cannot fathom the motivation for a genius creator to throw away his career, reputation, and entire life to troll 10,000 hardcore gamers, I guess I'll just have to roll with it.
They have a month with thousands of people trapped, this headgear is commercially available hardware, and nobody can figure out how to disable the internal battery safely?
If I nitpick at this too much, I'll just drive myself crazy.

Besides that, the show itself is pretty solid. Even though this episode was basically an exposition-heavy introduction, I thought it did a good job of letting the characters' actions speak for themselves. Kirito's training session with Klein shows us a lot about what the game is like, but the whole episode, besides the supervillain monologue, demonstrates Kirito's character without having to be didactic about it. He'd rather be helpful than overtly antisocial, but deep down he's a game-obsessed loner, who's happiest when making virtual progress through his skill. It doesn't seem like he's into MMOs for the social aspect, compared to someone like Klein, and their conversations show that without telling you. I don't wonder how he'll change over the course of the series.

There's some nice scenery porn too. I'm curious what later floors will look like.

How many episodes is this supposed to run for?

Talk about a post credit scene!

Guess I should now watch the original series in the mean time. Also learn a bit about Mahjong so I actually understand what the hell in going on.

Well, no one has said that it's badly made, or painful to sit through, or boring. There's just been a number of complaints about elements of the plot - how much nonsense you can ignore will affect your enjoyment of episode overall.

I agree with this to an extent pretty much. There are some holes and such that just don't seem feasible and such.

So, while wondering who the character designer for Magi could be, and looking at the three key visuals again, I've now seen something that can never be unseen.

That's a pretty common face shape in anime, really.
