I have heard it mentioned but when it comes to mech fiction I'm pretty selective. I like mechs that look like they come from BattleTech universe and less like Gundam mechs. So far I have really liked Votoms and Patlabor saga. Especially the second Patlabor movie was great, I did like the not so serious tv show too. I will give Geass a shot but I won't promise I like it. If I want to get into Gundam where should I start? I don't mind old animation at all so should I start from the original show? Or is it any good?

Edit. I'm off to bed for real this time.
Code Geass is over-the-top and poorly written, if you enjoy that kind of thing. You will most likely enjoy the Gundam OVA series such as War in the Pocket and The 08th MS Team rather than the television productions.

because of the new Hidamari Sketch season I'm rewatching Hidamari Sketch X 365 now.

And the first half of the first episode was just stunning amazing. It was some kind of Hidamari meets Bakemonogatari thing.

Watched all for Inuyasha movies today, to prepare myself for the final season.
Anyway, the movies were alright, typical movies based off of long running series, I'd even say they're better than most Bleach and Naruto movies. I got a little nostalgic seeing all the characters interact, it's been a long time since I've seen some Inuyasha.
I'll probably start watching the last season tomorrow, I heard it burns through the manga really fast, so I'm looking forward to it not having any fillers at least.
And then I'm done with Inuyasha for good.

I don't see how this is unrealistic.
Americans tell people what to do on Earth, it stands to reason they would tell people what to do on other worlds too.
Yes, I know, Americans are evil. But from a science fiction perspective, it's pretty dumb because of its obvious hypocrisy.

Was it all the way back to season five? Wow, I guess you have to give them credit for keeping the show going so long then. Speaking of Canadian,I saw the two movies that came out afterwards and in one they are in a ship in the arctic where Daniel is mentioning each time there is a temperature drop.

Even though all the characters are American and he never asks at any other point before, when Daniel gets to minus forty Mitchell asks "Fahrenheit or Celsius?" to which Daniel replies they're the same at that temperature. The fact of how they did that just made me really roll my eyes.
Yeah, the first time was the move from Showtime to SciFi, then it was just a ratings game and last minute renewals.

I really don't remember that temperature thing though. lol

Okay, I guess I can see that stance towards shows like Fate/Zero.

Yeah, going back to Anime melodramatising matters I found that even in American shows, like a sitcom, focusing on teenagers or the teenage characters really did the same thing. I found it kind of annoying, yet on the other hand actually quite true. When I was in highschool I noticed how many of the kids would dramatize the same smallest things.

Even Family Guy in one episode where Peter or Stewie goes to highschool there is a song they make up that ends with the line "These problems matter." Poking fun at how teenagers are.

On the topic of Sawa
purging
, talking about the ramifications of those actions I can see as a mature topic but just the performance of those actions in general, to me, aren't very mature. To me it's maybe kind of like when people purposely, temporarily cut off the oxygen or blood supply to their brain as a way to get high. Again, how to deal with these actions might be a mature topic but just doing it in general to me is the opposite. You're not showing you're mature at all and able to handle things.

I guess we'll probably never get those types of shows that really deal with these topics and have to be satisfied with the odd show like Usagi Drop that somewhat deals with more mature themes but still has some anime trademarks about it.
Being mature and handling mature topics are two different things though. And of course, for some people self-destructive behaviour is emblematic of some other underlying problem that is out of their control.

I mean, I think Glee is horrible and their "Asian father is against music and wants son to be a doctor" storyline was the shittiest thing ever, but I can believe that being an out teen in high school could be the worst thing ever next to being the only ethnic kid in an all white town. Of course, Japan barely touches on race or sexuality, so those two stories are basically out of the equation, but there are other things that they can do that are more socially aware and specific anyway.

Really, the most controversial topic that these things do address is teen sex and teen prostitution (which came up twice last year in Colorful and KamiMemo at least), and even that seemed a bit academic because it wasn't about the characters themselves, but attacking the whole idea of expectations. In Kimi ni Todoke, one of the characters is hit by her boyfriend when she breaks up with him, but it's not something that's really addressed in the anime.

I suppose I'm the person who would find Usagi Drop a bit more interesting if it focused more on why the mother chose to abandon her daughter in the first place. But of course, adoption stories are meant to be feel good stories. Especially in Japan, I suppose, since it reinforces notions of family.

(Speaking of which, because of the Meme talk yesterday, I just noticed that there is an inordinately large number of single mothers in nerd anime. I suppose that adds to the whole MILF fetish more than anything else though. :p I suppose Meme goes into her life as a single mother very slightly, but she seems to be the exception).

Bakuman is pretty good, definitely check it out at least, its rather fresh, compelling and addicting and the third season this fall.

Eh. Unless the characters finally got over themselves and don't have that "we can't see each other until we're famous" rule, it's just going to be dry manga production porn and that just wasn't interesting to watch since it's as reflective of reality as the "Gorilla" that draws the Gintama manga in the Gintama anime.

New girl is just awesomely nice and cute. Old girl is cool and cute. Win win.

Thats true. I'm enjoying the hell out of Accel World still.
I don't find Haru to be insufferable or annoying. He's just a normal kid.
I dont find Chiyu to be annoying either. I wish we would see more of
Scarlet Rain
though. I'm definitely buying this series on bluray/dvd if it comes out. Its so much fun.

Edit. I'm off to bed for real this time.

Geass starts out with Votoms-style robots, and stays there for most of the first season before power levels get shot to hell. On the other hand, once they do the show is a never-ending stream of one-upping whatever happened last time on every level, not just mechanical design.

Gundam for beginners is pretty much the movies of the original series (Mobile Suit Gundam, Soldiers of Sorrow, Encounters in Space), Zeta Gundam TV, and Char's Counterattack.

The original TV series isn't bad per se, but there are a lot of portions that aren't anywhere near essential and some huge production difficulties. The movie versions were made only a year or so later, with the director having enough pull to yank out some of the toyeticness, the art director out of the hospital and taking a much stronger role on the project, and the funding coming from Bandai's teen and college-target model kit line rather than Clover's action figures.

Zeta can be clunky and drag in portions, and is very '80s in others, but the movies are a decades-later project with new footage that doesn't really match and a retcon happy ending. Gotta go with the TV.

CCA is a work of excess by pretty much every definition. The director is completely off the leash by this point, and occasionally treads the line between uncut inspiration and George Lucas. The visuals are extravagantly funded and it's still one of the prettiest animus out there now; even the CG bits holds up well by modern standards. And the mechanical design is the best of both worlds, with influence from both '70s and '90s star designers.

Of course, all that's if you want to learn about Gundam as a thing in and of itself. If you just want a drama where Earth and space colonies fight a moderately-gritty war with some pseudoscience, the niche Gundam fills, you can just start with the SEED HD remasters.

Edit: Really reaching for a metaphor here, this is the "go get FF5 and FF6 Advance" or "practice your DP inputs on SF2 Turbo" answer for someone who wants to learn all about the series. SEED HD is the "There's the new FF7 PC port"/"Wait for FFX HD Classics" or "Hey, MvC3 is on sale" answer.

I think its kind of sweet and romantic and cool in a sort of interesting way, though I think their rule doesnt apply for like emergencies, etc.

Divergence Eve 11
This episode was nothing but sadness and flashbacks. I guess the happy days are all behind me now. At least I have the ED to cheer me up at the very least...
Oh and I guess they explained why everyone's tits are so big. Well, kinda.

Maturity, bitches.
Is anyone else still watching Utakoi? Finally got round to watching episode three. Similar thing happened with Horizon where I just never felt the incentive to keep up until I basically just forgot about it.

Divergence Eve 12
What in the flying fuck is going on? You'd think with just one more episode left I'd begin to understand things, but I'm more confused than I've ever been.

Fate/Extra Saber in Fate/Zero

Has this video been posted before? It's a clip of a scene from the second episode of Fate/Zero, where Saber and Irisviel are talking while Kiritsugu and Illya are playing outside but Saber is changed to be more like her Fate/Extra counterpart.

Bus Tour guide Yoshinoya is a motion sick Yoshinoya.

The girls all head to the zoo while
Sae
keeps lying about her love life! Afterwards, Hiro wants to oil up elephants...Wait, what?

Scene transition between the field trip at the zoo and Miyako conversing with Yuno back at the apartments afterwards. (Of course, having something charmingly silly to say) For instance,
a seal takes a liking to Sae at the aquarium section of the zoo. Miyako then comments on Hiro having the physical resemblance of a seal. lol

The Yoshinoya factor was strong in this episode (not that I'm complaining). This consisted of Yoshinoya. Well...

being Yoshinoya!

The girls talk about her after she leaves the apartment. In fact, they talk about her for the remainder of the episode! It seemed like a blatant excuse to show more stills of Yoshinoya "cosplaying"!
(not that it's a bad thing)

Overall nice consistent experience as usual. A Yoshinoya episode (or half-episode) was a a solid idea.

Ilya is so fucking cute its unbelievable.
also Saber sounds...really different. I don't remember how sounding like that.

Divergence Eve 13
In the end I guess
everyone on Watcher's Nest try to flee while evil french guy makes Misaki joins with the ghouls to try and learn the secrets of the universe but dies a painful death while Misaki somehow creates new universe/s where everyone gets sent to?
Oh, it all makes sense now!
No it doesn't.
The show really wasn't that bad really, just a shame it was made in the time that it was. I guess that's that, now on to Divergence Eve 2: Electric Boogaloo!

I'm glad you appear to have enjoyed it. I should probably have warned that it was depressing first.

It's definitely easier to make a film with a self-contained plot feel consistent with its series of origin when the series is largely comprised of episodic content itself. Films adapted from long-running shounens with contiguous plots never quite feel "right" to me; probably because even when events are marked as having occurred between X and Y plot points in the source material, the idea of new threats suddenly appearing and then never being referenced again is never exactly believable.

btw, I honestly haven't broken my oath on Getter Robo Armageddon. I'm buried under currently-airing stuff that I have to catch up on first before I can get back to that!

Saber in Fate/Zero is voiced by Ayako Kawasumi but that's obviously not her as you mentioned. She's supposed to sound different though because she's Saber from Fate/Extra.

Saber in Fate/Extra is voiced by Sakura Tange. She's probably most famous for voicing Sakura from Card Captor Sakura. Kind of nice that it works out they're both named Sakura. She also appears at the end of the eighth episode of Carnival Phantasm, once again voicing "Red Saber" as she calls herself.
