Tragic victim of fan death
Fanaticism for his own waifu has driven him insane. Is there a crystal in Asuna's budget that could ever cure him?

I don't believe in waifus. It's a stupid concept and a stupid thing.

Fate Zero is EXTREMELY dark.
Its something very good but that someone should watch over time because it might wear you down if you watch too much at one time.
Then again I cant say much cause I marathoned Saikano. Im masochist.

You're not a masochist. Narag is. Did you marathon through GC?

You're a strange one, you know that?

I know... I'm sorry but the Code Gease Euphie arc fucked me up something proper! I haven't been able to watch many series with developed characters are killed off regularly after that :( I've stopped watching Gundam anime altogether. I haven't even seen Another! I still want to believe I have a pretty eclectic taste though.

But your average western anime fan is a teenager watching shit on tv, so I don't see how that hurts my "argument" when Cowboy Bebop got tons of exposure over here after being aired on tv for what feels like years on end (and when Samurai Champloo was chiefly known for being done by the Cowboy Bebop guy.)

Unless you want to count non-anime fans (which you don't, for some odd reason) in which case Kon is inarguably well-known and mainstream, relatively-speaking.

I actually misread the poll. I thought the poll only included the top directors of movies.
Sue me, it's 4am in the morning
There's a couple of problems with this poll anyway as an indicator of popularity. The first being that it's self-selective on a self-selective website, similar to the Japanese poll earlier. People who browse and especially vote on ANN are not going to be typical fans or even typical otaku. That means it's going to be skewered a certain way. For example no way is Kon more well-known than Anno. The second problem is that this is a popularity poll not a survey. Third is that even then, you're looking at a less than 10% number. So this is a bad indicator regardless.

The reason I don't count non-anime fans anyway is because there wouldn't be an argument. He straight up isn't mainstream among non-anime fans. There is no way on Earth I would believe he's mainstream unless you can cite something that proves otherwise. People might know Paprika mainly due to Inception but that's primarily it.

Motohiro is a Japanese live action director who has worked on TV dramas and movies for over two decades. His specialty is in doing cop procedural style shows with organizations and a tight cast of characters. Many of his TV dramas ran on FujiTV, so I suppose he would be a familiar face to the network when it comes to material such as this.

Maybe when noitaminA wanted to produce a scifi cop procedural anime series, the noitaminA producer went to him to spearhead the project?

Actually, it seems that bad picture is the main animation design key visual. :(

What we can hope for is that the actual show looks a lot better when it is in motion and with backgrounds.

That actually sounds cool assuming Motohiro didn't run the Japanese equivalent of Law & Order.

As for the bad picture being the main animation design key visual, well fuck. Hopefully there's a lot of shadows.

That doesn't look so much like procedurals as just cop dramas(which is good). I mean it sounds like the show is probably going to be more along the lines of a drama knowing Urobuchi so Motohiro directing those in the past should help. I wonder if he's like the specialist of the group(like military specialists for shooter games).

No matter how many pictures of Asuna he posts, she will never return his love.

I fear he may be too far gone.

War. War never changes.

Is this still about Kanna? The more hung up on this you get, the more she'll remain a punchline.

Anime girls don't go anywhere. There's nothing to fight about.

Good, fun stuff, a JRPG style romp through a fantasy world, filled with all the tropes, but very self aware. The pace is great, which makes this show pretty easy to sit through, and it can get genuinely funny at times.
I also like the look of the show, it fits it well. Oh, and while the animation isn't actually good, it's not bad either, so there's never a huge discrepancy in the looks department between episodes like in Saint Seiya Omega. It never reaches the lows of that show's animation, so I guess that's something Toei did good with this one.

More people should give this one a shot.

Sword Art Online 10

Wow, this was all over the place. As for plot advancement, it was pretty damn important, but the way things played out was just... odd.

So it starts with a really cool duel. That's all well and good, but then some other stuff happens. Now I thought
Kuradeel going nuts
was pretty awesome and tense.
The guy actually kills someone, nearly kills Kirito, then begs for his life like the coward he is. So it's all going to be very satisfying when he gets taken back and arrested or whatever they do with the law system they got in place, right?

Wrong! Kirito kills the dude. Well hey, that's cool too as long as the guy has some kind of "I don't want to die speech" in his last few seconds alive. But wait, the guy goes out with a super smug line, sapping the satisfaction out of the scene and cementing his status as the most hate able character in the series. Which is awesome! It takes effort to make you hate a fictional character so much and that guy fits the bill. Now I'm thinking this is going to lead to some crazy emotional breakdowns from Kirito, who just killed someone in the game world for the first time. Instead, what do we get? Romantic comedy antics!
That just seems... wildly inappropriate to me :/

All this talk of "dark" anime has the unfortunate tendency of reminding me of ANN reviews.

If you haven't quite had your fill of ufotable Fate animation, have a look at this offscreen footage of the main Fate/stay night Realta Nua Vita OP (Nicovideo account required, probably), captured from the latest Machi Asobi animation event in Tokushima:

If you squint, it kind of looks like a creditless OP for an ufotable Fate/stay night anime, doesn't it?

;_;

That last bit bothered me a bit as well, but I think it can be explained by
how "clean" death is in SAO
and how Asuna was there to lick his wounds. A little emotional support goes a long way.

I don't know, after 2 years of
trying to avoid killing people, you would think he'd get accustomed to the way it works in that world and be devastated when he finally committed the act.

SAO is kind of unsettling with the triviality of death considering what is apparently happening irl.

ufotable can't turn Fate/Stay Night to something 'good', no one can. it might look better but that won't help with the source material. They have to a write a new route or something.

If Asuna wasn't there, he probably would have been.

I don't think they've trivialized death at all except for
Klein and co VS the PKers in episode 3.

looks like even ufotable can't make him 'look' good, he still looks like a moron he is. I didn't like him in last episode of F/Z either XD

It's true. :(

Waifu wars (that includes best girls) are silly if you can't back it up. At that point it's just a dick waving contest.

Poor Kanna. Always going to be remembered as the childhood friend who got rejected.
