Forget not sexualising Yuno, though. She's adorable and pure, yes, but that just makes it more delicious.

You guys might think that after 3-4 guys have posted about the Blue Exorcist movie with ridiculous background screenshots that you might have seen it all, but trust me, pretty much the ENTIRE movie is really like that. It's total visual art direction porn.

As for the similarities to Tekkonkinkreet... both movies share the same art director (Shinji Kimura), and Studio 4C is credited in the Blue Exorcist movie under "background assistance". So that's not surprising! :)

Studio 4c does amazing artwork. See stuff like genius party and especially Noiseman sound insect! Im not at all surprised now that blue exorcist looks so good.

I'll take the hint, JEEZ!

Highschool DXD 12:

Nice revelations all around in this one. Didn't see that ending coming ether, though I knew the guy was more then he lead on. Interested to see where this is going.

You lost, Bobby.

Actually kinda glad they lost. When you have two teams competing with multiple members of the track team, realistically you don't have too much of a chance, even if Nao is really really fast. I mean, she came withing one slip of at least contending for the win anyway, but still. Friendship and hard work will only get you so far in...how long was that, a week?

Twin imoutos and roadkill and bears, oh my!

Series continues to be good stuff. Hachiken is a better man than I am. I'm pretty sure I'd throw up horribly if I tried to
cut up a dead animal
like that. That's if I could bring myself to even attempt it in the first place.

009 Re:Cyborg

Kenji Kamiyama's latest work shows both his strengths and weaknesses as a director. He can direct a thrilling action scene, and working in a 3D environment afforded him plenty of opportunities to make use of dynamic camera work. From the opening fight on the top of Roppongi Hills, which was a good introduction to Joe's accelerator capabilities, to the fight above Dubai, up through the climax, all the action was well-directed, clear and well thought out. My favorite one was the attack on the cyborg base, which let the unique abilities of each member of the 00 team shine. I also really liked how
Joe running away from the bomb
was depicted, with a powerful sense of extreme speed. If this film had been satisfied to be a straightforward thriller, I think it would have worked fairly well.

Unfortunately Kamiyama wasn't satisfied with that, and instead threw in a bunch of philosophical talk that weighted the film down. You can feel Oshii's shadow looming over him. (It's worth mentioned that Kamiyama's script was originally written for Oshii himself to direct.) The problem is that Kamiyama does not understand what made the philosophical portions of Oshii's films work. In Oshii's hands philosophy becomes poetry and unites with meditative visuals and music to bring the viewer into another state of being. Even when the dialogue itself doesn't make obvious rational sense, there is an intuitive artistic sense that resonates with you. In Kamiyama's hands the talking is merely dry. The long chapel scene was interminable. I don't feel encouraged to ponder any of the issues raised; I'm just left thinking how muddled the whole "His Voice" plotline is. It's worse because these parts of the film feel so at odds with the action parts. In Ghost in the Shell, everything was framed in a consistent atmosphere, even the action being slow and deliberate, but here the tone leaps around. The pacing screeches to a halt before jerking back into high gear. It feels like Kamiyama's natural talents are in conflict with his desire to emulate his mentor.

Visually, the film doesn't look too hot. Sanzigen does nice work in a few places, but overall the CG and art look very bland and flat, especially compared to Toei's Asura that I just watched. There's two main issues that leap out to me. First is the shading on the models, which is very simplistic and accentuates their lack of detail. I get that Sanzigen wants their work to look like 2D animation, but they aren't able to pull it off to the extent that I've seen in some of CyberConnect2's work. The characters are unpleasant to look at throughout, and could have benefited greatly from a subtler, more meticulous hand. The second problem is that the general art design falls into Production I.G.'s gritty cyperpunk look, broadly akin to Psychopass and Ghost in the Shell Arise. The garish digital composition and overly pale flesh tones that they display show up here too. As a result, you have an artifical world that lacks the human touch - and the CG only exacerbates that. While the actual CG modeling and animation is probably somewhat better than Toei's on Asura, comparing the two drives home to me that art design is more important than animation quality per se when creating attractive anime. I think this idea holds for 2D animation as well.

My favorite part about the film was Kenji Kawai's music. Whatever atmosphere it managed to create was solely due to his excellent work, which harkened back to his Patlabor 2 and Ghost in the Shell soundtracks. He has such a good handle on how to evoke a mysterious, mournful mood.

The ending was really weird. Even with the philosophical talk, the film managed to stay fairly grounded until taking a sudden swerve at the very end.
They died - no wait, they're all alive! In heaven! Or not! Maybe it's a new world created through someone's prayer to His Voice? Who knows!
A completely baffling choice that sums up the unsatisfying nature of the film. I really hope that for Kamiyama's next project he doesn't try to overreach himself and stays with what he's good at.

Futari wa Milky Holmes 5

You know, this wouldn't be so bad if the Feathers were even half as stupid as the Milky Holmes were in the first 2 seasons.

I don't know much about the games, but I have always associated this franchise with a group of 4 girls being hilariously incompetent and failing at everything they do while displaying a very special kind of idiocy.

That's nowhere to be seen here. Instead, we're given just another generic magical girl show that I really should have dropped by now.

I'm such a sucker for dead parent episodes. I don't know why. And this was no exception, despite recently finishing off Cardcaptor Sakura which, in my opinion, handled these episodes absolutely beautifully. They were never not amazing and heartwarming. This wasn't quite as good as those, but it's still one of my favorite episodes so far.

Also sounding the cajun alarm: this episode had flashbacks to Yayoi when she was five.

This was a really great episode. Lots of great moments between Mikage and Hachiken, and
the deer scene was powerful stuff.
Really enjoying the adaptation so far.

Anne of Green Gables - End
It's over. ;____;
The final episode was as fantastic as the whole show, I still can't believe I reached the end and I'll not be seeing any more of these characters.

I don't think I've been as emotionally involved in a show since... actually I can't think of anything else right now. So engrossing.

Well, anime goes on, but Anne was very special. I believe I will be revisiting the show many times down the road. Takahata, you are the best. I'm glad we will be able to receive a grand parting gift from you this Fall (or next year, whatever) ;__;

Much like Queen Beryl back in the day, Sailor Galaxia has proved to be an incompetent ruler of evil.
She could have at least waited until Siren had given away Moon's identity, but nope. Actually, this episode reminded me a lot of Jadeite's last appearance, down right to the confrontation at the airport/airplan.

Poor Crow-san.
Ami-chan: a true sentai otaku. Yayoi twenty years before Yayoi.
Best Sailor Senshi.
What's up with Seiya acting surprised at Moon being Usagi? He already figured it out like ten episodes ago!

Holy shit. Minako is a BOSS <3

So I just finished translating episode 7 of Devils and Realist. I never thought I would be looking up ancient Babylonian herblore just to get an accurate translation for a line.

The shit I do for you people. XD

It wouldn't work considering Punpun isn't human...
Well he is but...
It's complicated.

If you've read the latest couple of volumes (the tankobon's not for sale yet but magazine scans are out there) your statement is pretty accurate, and I'm not talking about the bird/tetrahedron avatar.

Randy's video watching scene felt awkward to watch but then somehow this made me laugh for some reason...Otherwise mindblowing episode.
as a Patrick fan I teared up. Of all the ways to go and he even reached out for the solar thing too while the OP song one played. Wasnt he supposed to be victorious, not slashed in the back and explode? :(

They should really stop touching whatever they find randomly laying around/falling from the sky. Never know what's going to be one of Majorina's inventions.

Yayoi had the bast solution.

Well it is (sometimes) called Cure Girls Do Dumb Things.

Chousoku Henkei Gyrozetter 30

Adamant Titan was a silly antagonist (as expected of Touma of course), but then
when Kakeru was stabbed in the middle of the the Final Burst (IN SPACE) right in the heart. That was way too intense for this anime. I was shocked. They should have ended the episode on that moment and left us wondering if he died or not for another week, would have been more powerful.

How odd... it's like this thing came from another world.
A completely 2d mecha in the middle of Gyrozetter's mediocre 3d. And it wasn't 2d only for a single shot or anything like that, even while moving it was 2d, although it didn't get much screentime... It really made me wish the entire series were animated like that...

Stella C3-bu 7

Oh no, someone's
using airsoft guns for evil, and Sonora winds up injured and unable to take place in the big tournament as a result!
This is nearly enough to kill the whole team's motivation...except that Yura, feeling partly responsible for what happened, ends up burning with enough motivation and DRIVE TO WIN for all the other members put together. And how!

So Yura single-handedly rekindles the competitive flame in the rest of the team through the power of INTENSE TRAINING REGIME. Yura in instructor mode is quite something to behold. She doesn't hold back, that's for sure.

Now all the teams are assembled, and the C3-bu is ready to take on anything. Bring on the 24-hour tournament! *waku waku*
