So, in the end, after having watched Futari wa, Heartcatch, and Smile Precure, I'd probably have to put Smile as my least favorite. I didn't hate it, and it had its moments, but it just played things way too safe and didn't allow its characters room to develop or play off of each other. And when the show is focused solely on the main five girls, that's a huge problem.

When Toei releases their Sailor Moon reboot, they said (supposedly) that they're aiming it at an older audience than the Precure franchise. I hope they also realize that they're going to have to do a lot better than Smile Precure if this is the case, because while I generally enjoyed it, it will not be enough.

Precure Series Rankings:
Heartcatch>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Futari wa>Smile

Precure Precure Rankings:
Marine>White>Sunshine>Sunny>Moonlight>Peace>Blossom>March>Black>Beauty>Happy

Precure Mascot Rankings:
Porun>Potpourri>Candy>Chypre/Coffret> (grand canyon of >'s) >Hammer to the Balls>Mepple/Mipple>Drowning in a Vat of Elephant Feces

Precure rankings put Peace a bit low. Otherwise good (not that Ive seen enough to know just initial reactions to them). Cure White is pretty far up there because Honoka is love.

Also your mascot rankings are correct. Everyone else is just wrong.

I totally forgot about the wubwub though, and I was genuinely surprised at the ending. Although, of course they
have an out with the medley race
. The "tragedy porn" aspect of the show is still its worse part though, inasmuch as it's almost become a point of parody now.

Also, these characters really are just anime girls in male form. Which is different from the pseudo "third gender" characters like Hideyoshi and Saika in terms of being girly boys made to appeal to anime fans... they really do act like anime girls from YuruYuri or Yuyushiki or Auira or K-On! or whatever. It's funny to watch. lol

Yeah... Rei getting all giddy over swimming form is something I wouldn't find out of place in one of those kind of shows.

You should watch Jewelpet Kira Deco, as it doesn't play things safe at all, quite the opposite, and the characters have plenty of room to play off each other in all kinds of delightful ways.

Blossom is so low ._. A bit surprised at Black's ranking though.

Ojamajo Doremi 46

Talent shows in both the human world and the witch world (latter required human abilities over magic). And it turned out to also be a level 2 exam!

Everyone passes, and their wish allowed Doremi to be a level 2 witch, bypassing level 3.

I like Yayoi. She's cute and all. Just really wasn't enough there with her for me to justify putting her higher. If she had a better supporting cast, maybe she would have been able to shine brighter. Course, she couldn't top Erika. Erika will forever be best Precure.

I guess this is sort of the opposite effect where having glory around you makes you look a bit more unremarkable than you should. Again, I like both of those characters. It isn't til I get to Beauty and Happy that I'm like "Eh....nah", especially with Happy. I could put Black above March, but it would have just seemed wrong to have three of the five Smile's at the bottom. I guess episode 42 put her over the top.

Sankarea's issue is not one of budget, or of art or animation, but of direction. The strong direction of the first three episodes that focused on character drama gave way to bland direction focused on mindless ecchi. Well, when you've got a first-time series director, especially one who hasn't had the best environment for training, it's not surprising that there'll be some problems. Fortunately Shinichi Omata learned from the experience and is doing a much better job on the present Rozen Maiden.

At first I was gonna go, "ha! wrong guy!" then I looked it up and saw that Hatakeyama is a pseudonym for Omata o_O Why would he do that? Is working for Deen that embarassing that a SHAFT guy would want to hide it?

Well In Black's case, she's pretty similar to a large cast, although she was someone who didn't really embrace being a Cure (but I do snub her for having way too much screen time in the sequel though). But Blossom didn't... have glory like the others.

Some people just want to use psuedonyms for whatever reason. (See Kigami at KyoAni.) Omata seems to have decided to use the Hatakeyama name when he's directing a show. Before he was at Shaft he worked on hentai, so if he was going to be embarrassed about something the time for that has long passed.

Rather working for SHAFT (and producing hentai) is too embarrassing so he took up a pen name to hide it.

She's a major character who's in practically every episode. Plus Sawashiro plays another major character (Opal) who's in a lot of episodes, and a minor character (Chite) who shows up a couple times.

Is it safe to say that there's no real continuity between the series? I can only assume so much considering Kira Deco is one of the couple that are actually subbed.

Ah this episode was great . pallas was making DAT FACE as she was thinking "don't touch me mongrel" was quite cute but the face of jealousy was cuter and deadlier.

Saint%20Seiya%20Omega%20-%2068.jpg

The "don't touch me insect" face - pallas version ... DAT FACE

It's one of these episode when you know that this can't last forever and then suddenly ...

-koga stay with me
-i can't stay with you , i have to fight
-But you said that you would protect me
-Listen i'm a saint of athena and that's my priority.
-So you're going to abandon me....

And then everyone face was like this :

1372091458170.gif

it's super revelation time !

PRICELESS !! SUPERB ! AWESOME !
You could clearly feel the "sh*t got to hit the fan" moment here ... and even eden went with a " what a evil cosmo" just to prove to everyone (if that wasn't obvious ) that she wasn't kidding around.

ah this episode was 99.99% subaru free and even haruto didn't talk ..in short it was a PERFECT EPISODE

or i should have said if the animation wasn't so crappy.
Horrible portion of the characters animated at a time , dubious use of background and special effectsin order to stall time..the first part was quite bad , they only got slightly better afterwards for the showdown in the second part.

but the end got me quite hyped and that's what matters

Cure blacks main failing is that she isnt Honoka. But thats a lot of precure failings.

Yayoi is probably in the top 5 most adorable anime characters ever. thats saying a lot.

Ojamajo Doremi 47

It's an AIKO episode, but this one doesn't trigger as much feels (thankfully)

Aiko realized that her mother really didn't remarry, so she tries to stop the arranged marriage. Unfortunately, the new waifu had the brains of Hazuki, and liked the honesty of Aiko. So magic failed here.

Jojo and Space Bros have some visual weaknesses, due to being low budget and one being a long-running show, but they have solid direction most of the time and strong direction for pivotal moments. Can Gifu Dodo claim that?

I think so. It's typically the animation direction, I think, where the show suffers and everything is ugly as hell as a consequence if that makes sense. Imagawa's script has been solid so far with how it frames the story as two old friends reminiscing over drinks in the moonlight. Mad Pierrot is the only other person alive today that might be able to corroborate this!

Her main failing was that she ate up screen time like she eats up food. Some of that could've been used to make Hikari less awful at least.

Surprised no one asked why I didn't react to his placement for Peace.

Toriko Episode 115 Toriko's New Crisis! the Creeping Main Body of the Four-Beasts!
tumblr_mrwxx5m8yp1qbxqfpo1_500.png

Like the last episode this was just as good if not, even better. Whoever did Zebra's attack did a great job, that attention to detail on pumping up his arm with the wind or smoke effects vibrating intensely through the attack and after made it feel special. Otherwise ready for what they will do against this one.

Sain seya omega - 69

In this episode we had 2 very good flashback on 2 entertaining character of the omega franchise , yuna & soma ... it was very intresting an entertaining.

The animation was nice ,so nice that it looked like soma was the star of the show when it clearly was yuna and even she got the luxury of lecturing the main bad guy
I got a Mana from dokidoki precure sense of "deja-vu" but it was alright ..because yuna gave this lecture proudly , fiercely and while she was badly injuried , making the whole scene much better than one could imagine.

So for those who are unaware , here are some sain seya rules :

1- raise your cosmo
2- if you don't have cosmo energy left , burn the remaining cosmo
3- your cosmo is stronger if you have to protect your comarade
4- if you can't burn your cosmo , burn your cosmo in order to burn your cosmo
5- Friendship while burning your cosmo is also quite deadly.

So this episode based on frienship and betrayal it worked perfectly ... Don't underestimate frienship power !!!

see this :
Saint%20Seiya%20Omega%20-%2069.jpg

Plot haxxor in anime #2 friendship

This guy above didn't know about frienship... so he was lectured , beaten & defeated....next time you'll stop being a bad guy and you'll go study friendship.
This episode was subaru -free & haruto-free
Thus It was "PERFECT"

Hmm, well, with direction I'm not talking about the script so much as the pacing, the editing, the music selection and timing, the coherence and structure of the storyboard as distinct from the quality of the art. You can have a decent script but other parts of the show - besides the art or animation per se - can prevent that from being enjoyed properly. I think of how the poor music direction in Hyouge Mono made it unwatchable for me.

I'm probably just dumb, but I never really made the connection with the theme of music in this show until that scene of Aiko's dad playing the harmonica for her after her mom split. Kinda reminded me of the scene of Masaru's dad playing the trumpet for him before he left for Europe, though that was a bit of a different situation.

So the Level 6 exam was just to see if they could get magical spheres after they ran out? Is it the same for everybody? If so, it would kinda seem the path of all apprentice witches is similar. Anyway, badass new wands.

I laughed when Doremi gave Majo Rica (Punyu-chan) to Pop to get back at her for all of her mooching getting Doremi in trouble.

Generally, I think the former is alll fine. It's just that it's really so ugly at times it's entirely overbearing. Not to say I'd recommend this to anyone in spite of that though as it fills this weird niche of manly sengoku bromance that I don't see as generally appealing to most as the show goes on.

I really don't know what to say because I don't know if the bombastic, absurdly passionate, and ultimately cheesy nature of the material disqualifies a show from being able to claim genuinely good direction in the eyes of a serious critic. I vouch for it being good for what it is, but someone else may think that all of the raw emotion and camp damn the show to bad/lowbrow status because it's easier to direct something unsubtle than something reserved and nuanced.

Revolutionary Girl Utena The Movie: Yes indeed, a most curious creature this film is, filled with so much bizarre surreality and dense symbolism even the mighty pretensions of Evangellion would find itself choking. Still, I rather liked this, unlike the series which made me feel like I needed a sits bath after watching the damn thing. Yes, I readily acknowledge the series is a far stronger narrative work, it also made feel like i was getting coldcocked in the stomach and the brain.
So much messed up insect. So unclean, so unclean. Granted that is still here but Kato gets his comeuppance rather quickly and deviously ignominiously.
Yea, the car sequence is bloody odd, but only slightly odder then the fucking architecture of Hogwarts here, good god, how do more people not fall to their deaths?

The piece of music that plays during each of their spell cast has different versions for each character. Doremi's features piano(harpsichord), Hazuki's features strings(violin), and Aiko's features woodwinds(harmonica).

Also the pervasive use of notes on witch stuff, their written language, the style of the show logo, etc...

Oh great... someday I'll need to make a Precure Ranking....

That should be fun.

I never even bothered. Don't think I'll start now.

And I can see Russia from my house.

And today, we find out that no one but the nerd can use a computer, so this leads to devestating email results where she has to dato everyone.
She almost wiped their minds before being stopped since she'll get decked hard for performing it on so many people.

Nerdy Nakita also has a disc with pictures of Onpu. First word to mind: "creepy".

One more Curse item to go.

I realized that much, and I know the musical notes in their wands and on their emblems and such, as well as Doremi's name, and that their spells' music correspond to the treasures they mixed their wands with. I just didn't realize just how prevalent music actually is in the show, like evoking emotional moments like with Aiko's dad and Masaru's dad.

As you'll find out later, Doremi's mom used to be a professional pianist.

Just because something is lowbrow doesn't make it bad.

Onpu used magic for good for once
and her charm breaks as a result

She apparently knows a lot about trains, she's probably a Thomas the Tank Engine fan.

Really setting up for the big finale.
