Man, Aiko's personality is so infectious. Doremi herself has a lot of energy but there's this wonderfully genuine quality Aiko just exudes. Subject matter was a little heavier than I'd imagined it would be but hey, it's nice to have some misunderstanding with some weight behind it.

Aiko and her father in the classroom was a sweet moment. Show must be doing something right to have gotten to me like it did just three episodes in.

After dropping most stuff from this season I now have time to go through some stuff from the backlog and this was one of them. The first episode was good, nothing was outstanding about it aside from the soundtrack, but I did enjoy it and had a lot of energy.

The music was really good though. Maybe it's because I already about it before watching the first episode, but it really catches your attention and has very distinct feeling to it. It also for some reason reminds of JRPG soundtracks.

First time the Dirty Pair actually faced real danger.

Fuck Kei, leaving her partner stranded in space just to go on some date with some loser. Nanmo, on the other hand, has attained full G status.

It's just highly effective characterization, so even though you've only known Aiko for an episode it still earned the moment.

You know considering the title of this show I really shouldn't be surprised with how lewd this show can get.

Other than that this is another great episode with some good laughs. Not as good as the first episode but hopefully as they go they bring more jokes in.

Seems like it took Chihaya's mom a while to openly support her about karuta, but better late than never. Too bad her sister doesn't, that would probably mean a lot to Chihaya. Had been wondering about the title, but Kana explained it! Sumire and Taichi continue too suffer ;_;

Well I don't care too much about Sumire's romantic woes, I'm sure it will become more than a joke at some point. But Taichi needs to get with it already before Arata finds out he can use his phone more than once a week.

Poor Sumire.

I enjoy listening to the two OSTs, whenever the tracks appear during my 60+ hours of anime soundtracks. Glad I picked them up for $3 each from Right Stuf's bargain bin.

Yeah, bought that and the Ninja Ressurection OST. Wish I'd bothered to get the Giant Robo ones though.

I am amazed at how many OSTs are still available at Right Stuf. Some of the cases may be in bad shape, but I never had any scratches on the CDs themselves. Right Stuf is even nice enough to send a replacement case to use as needed!

I have a habit of checking to see if any OOP soundtracks become available again pretty much daily. Managed to get the Akira OST recently due to this!

And so
Wang Yi has been mortally wounded. So much so that he can barely move his spear and is clearly moving on will alone.
I must say, the plan that allowed this to happen was very put together.

Jinsei 4
Pretty lewd episode. Funny thing I've noticed is that all 3 low quality shows about fanservice this season had a beach episode on episode 4 when usually, its in the latter half of the show.

Another relatively slow episode. More hints about Kuro and Miyu, more school antics, some ultraviolent dodgeball, and the nurse is more than she seems.

Gag of the week: The whole bit with the school contingent freaking out over how few fucks the nurse gives.

Knights of Sidonia 2-7

Been catching up on this on and off.

The CG and writing has already been talked about to death but there is one thing the show actually does pretty well which is UI (user interface) and Display design:

Kind of a small thing for a lot of people but those tiny bits of pointless information (to the viewer) presented in interesting fashion over holographs is one of those details about sci-fi series that I really love. It's a hallmark of many science fiction series and there are quite a few other notable anime series out there that also do this quite well such as Evangelion (and its Rebuild series), Yamato 2199 and Ghost in the Shell to name a few (I probably could've picked better examples). These are all examples of design that really drives home the feeling of an advanced society and a truly science fiction series. Sidonia uses it to its advantage in helping to create a very unique setting in space. If I weren't so lazy I'd be working on a blog with collections of outstanding UI/Display designs from a bunch of anime series. Maybe some day in the future.

G Gundam - End
I finally finished it, after God knows how long because of a bunch of stuff (mostly me forgetting about it and then I had to format my HD, needing to download everything again). I actually just wanted to post my story with Gundam as a whole.

My first contact was with Gundam Wing, back when Toonami existed and anime were relevant in Brazil. I watched 5 episodes at most since I had school at the time and my only opinion on this particular Gundam is that I think that the Gundam Deathscythe (had to look into the wiki lol) looked freaking awesome. Oh, and that the boys looked like girls.

After some airings, Gundam Wing disappeared from Cartoon Network and I've never seen a Gundam or any other robot anime on TV ever since. My second contact with Gundam was when I was browsing the internet and stumbled into Gundam Seed. First, I didn't care for it but I had a friend who loved it. Even then he didn't convince me to watch it, I just ignored it for a long time and I've only looked into Gundam again when 00 began.

At that time I was already watching a bunch of fansubbed anime and since it wasn't connect to any other series, I finally started watching a Gundam. Long story short: loved the first season, didn't like the second one, the movie is horrible. After 00 ended, I finally decided to try Seed... and I gave up with 8 episodes. I simply couldn't stand Kira, I don't even know why anymore. But my hate for him was so absurd that I said "fuck it" on the 8th episode and never looked back.

For some time, I looked into some Gundam things out of curiosity like the different "Eras" and its timelines, how many shows were made, etc. So I got some spoilers from almost everything. Then there was Gundam AGE, I watched the first part and actually forgot about it. I don't know if I'll ever finish it.

My second full Gundam anime was actually Gundam Build Fighters. And I loved every second of it, making me even import a Gunpla. The more relaxed nature (no deaths, space nazis, just kids battling) and the awesome fights hooked me into it . So cool! Much because of Build Fighters, I decided that the next Gundam I would try would be the most "absurd" one, that is, G Gundam.

My knowledge of G Gundam was the WITH THE HELP OF KYOJI video and the fact that Mark Gatha voiced both Mega Man X and Domon. Of course I watched it in Japanese, I like Gatha but not enough to watch anime with English voices. From the beginning, I saw that this was a very different Gundam and when I heard my first "Shining Finger!" and that epic song started playing I knew that I had found my favorite Gundam.

Without spoiling anything, this was simply fun, from the beginning to the end. The combination of awesome fights, OST, some silly Gundam designs (Nether Gundam and Matador Gundam ftw) and DBZ-like attacks really put a smile into my face. And they didn't even need the robots to battle, specially guys like Master Asia. Even with all of its "absurdity", G Gundam takes itself pretty seriously and the final episodes were surprisingly heavy, making me pretty sad for some characters. I kinda expected more of the "final battle" but it was awesome anyway, I can't complain about it.

I won't ever forget the Shining\God Fingers, their themes, Kyojiiiiiiiiii, Schwarz appearing out of nowhere, the East burning red and all other little things that made this such a fun ride.

Now, I don't know where I will go with Gundam. Will I try the original timeline? Will I just try another spin-off? Or maybe I will just wait for the new Gundam Build Fighters and Reconguista. For now, I'm putting a rest to it.

Next on my "old anime that I think I have to watch" list: Utena.

Kingdom 38 Season 1 END
What a fantastic way to end the season.
Wang Yi might have died but his spirit will live on. Teng has inherited his army and Xin his spear.
Diao is dead set on becoming a tactician. And Xin has risen in ranks once more - now commanding 300 hundred men.

If it weren't for the CG I can honestly see this being more well liked than what it seems to be here. Sure the first half is a bit rough, but once you get around that, it truly opens up and is something great.

Argevollen Episode 1

Everything about this is so rote that I didn't even bother watching other episodes.

Tokyo Ghoul Episodes 1-3

So they are vampires, right? I mean, they have certain gimmicks, but we can all agree that they are day walkers. I still find it to be an interesting show. The censoring is a bit heavy handed, but I don't need to see every bit of gore to understand a situation. I like it so far.

Sword Art Online II Episodes 1-4

Who are these characters? I kind of fell asleep during the first episode, but I don't think I missed that much. Things are finally picking up pace in the 4th episode, but it pains me to see Kirito
round out his harem tropes by being mistaken for a woman.
How is he not famous by now?

Aldnoah.Zero Episodes 1-4

I really wanted the princess to stay dead. I know she has to be around to be a way to bridge the two sides, but damn I was really hoping they had the balls to kill her off in the first episode.
The coolest mech show this season.

Akame ga Kiill! Episodes 1-4

I was surprised. The first episode really grabbed me. The ones after that were predictable, but I enjoy the characters so I don't mind in the least. I especially like the
odd homosexual feelings
the main character seems to have. It's a fun twist on the harem trope. Everyone has their baggage, but they are very open at the same time. It's been the biggest surprise of the season for me.

Zankyou no Terror Episodes 1-4

Seems like everyone is a terrorist these days. It's the cool thing to do. These guys do a good job at making things explode in interesting ways.

Tokyo ESP Episodes 1-4

It's mutants in Tokyo. What's there not to like about that? Add to that the guest appearance of a giant katamari and you've got me hooked.

Rurumo 4

Is it just me, or does every single harem series where the protagonist actually has male friends, have at least one major plot point about finding a place to hide porn?

not really sure how you get to them being vampires
they don't drink blood
they don't mind the sun
they don't have just two fangs o_O
you don't need a wooden stake to the heart, nor decapitation to kill them
they are ghouls.... as they say in the title of the show o_O

honestly I would have went with intelligent zombies that aren't dead... before vampires o_O;

Tonari No Totoro - Hey, my first Ghibli movie. We had our final in my Japanese class today. Since class is three and a half hours and the test only takes about an hour, we watched a movie for the rest of the class. Naturally, this is aimed at a much younger demographic than myself, but I still found it very enjoyable. The animations were really fantastic. Two things I had issues with 1) I think neko bus should have 4 legs, and 2) it felt like the movie ended kind of abruptly. When the ending came, it seemed like there was 15-20 minutes missing. Overall, very good, and I should probably get around to seeing some of the other Ghibli stuff.

Love Lab 7
Funny to see Riko's little bro so infatuated with Maki. Also funny were Suzu's comebacks. Looks like the newspaper club is going to be a background conflict for now.

she does.

If by winning you mean
ended up with that nothingness of a wet noodle protagonist then, no, she really truly didn't.
Her character went to shit after going full dere anyways.

The real winners
ended up dropping the show after the first (and only good) arc.

Since both Jinsei and Yama no Susume are on YTV, I wonder if something with the channel has to do with why Funi hasn't announced anything about the former and why CR's been stalling on the latter for weeks.

Did the show take a dump in your cereal as well?

How do I get anime gaf sama to accept me when I don't like watching cute girls doing cute things?
You're not alone brother. We are few in numbers. But we must hold the wall.

How could he not have seen that bomb-in-the-container trick coming? Guess it's to be expected from the leader of a group of Waldo look-alikes.

Love how they extorted their boss at the end by putting the prism in the microwave.

Serei tsukai no Blade dance - 03

I can't..

This anime is soo generic , i really can't find anything original in this.
Everything is Soooo predictable i just can't... they try to balance things by using "misunderstandings" but that only make it even more generic.
The fights are Unintresting and the magic system Even more boring .... 3 eps and i haven't seen anything that seems like something cool , powerlevels or something like that.

The animation is painfully average , the music is boring and the dialogs!! Omg the dialogs !!

I can't.
3eps in, that spirit dies and i'm here ( why should i care ? )
Your partener died because of your recklessnessand your refusal to see reason , so you're going to do something more reckless ?? WHAT ?

The background of the MC , aka the "strongest blade dancer" but nerfed as hell would have been cool , if there was something else to spice things up.As it stand between the horrible crying flame girl , the rich princess ice girl , and the honnest student concil president i'm troughly BORED.

There 's only so much time i can facepalm while watching an anime episode before i get an headache.

The Devil is a Part Timer - END

That was a really fun anime! To keep things short: The main characters were all fantastic, the narrative was funny and facetious (even the dramatic episodes were dripping with self awareness), the script was phenomenal, the OST was notable because it made mundane scenarios hilarious by playing dramatic music, and overall it was a relaxing experience.

The show's premise and Maou & Alsiel's growth makes me think of that old saying.

"It's not who you were yesterday, but who you'll be tomorrow that matters."

PS: I hope to god that Best girl Chiho won last years Best girl of the year award.

Edited due to clarification.

We got to see more about 2 members in our nonfunctional group:

26868.png

Yuuri for example, despite her sweet personality, is seemingly a vengful and spiteful person if she's crossed. This being the case, I can understand why she was avoided by the other girls in her class... Because they were right. She's only cute and cuddly around boys. If you cross her and aren't exactly her friend, who knows what you'd be in for. I mean really, she harbored ill will (even going as far as avoiding him in one scene) towards Kominato because he took her cupcake not knowing she was going to save it for later.

10331.png

And then there's Murao... A completely different can of worms. In the last episode she showed she was the avoidant type and clearly didn't want to talk unless she felt like it, so I didn't mind when she was insulting Kou, because he totally deseirves it. But later on in the scene shown above, it completely shows why she told him off in the first place. He caused trouble for the person she likes (RIP in pieces Kominato's young heart). If it were just some random boy, it's one thing. But, since it's
Kou's brother
, that creates a ton of social issues and he knows it. He even tells her he'll be there for her as a teacher and nothing else. Thing is though, is that the word always is used. Meaning it isn't the first, second, or probably not even the third time he's had to tell her this showing that it's a constant issue with her.

In a brief conclusion, Yuuri's otherside might not be so bad as long as it's for comic relief (although it's really disheartening for her to feel things like that). But if the subplot between Murao and the teacher grows or becomes the only reason why she opens her mouth I'm not going to be sure how to feel about it.

Ao Haru Ride 4

The setting of this episode honestly felt off. I could've sworn the last episode they were selecting class rep, etc. And to just throw them in the first field trip feels off... Like something was skipped.

I am gonna go ahead and squash this because people keep saying this. At the end of the last episode they were told right after they were selected that they were going on a "Leadership Training Trip" that week/weekend. As a matter of fact they all reacted to it differently at the end of episode 3 because Tanaka-Sensei was going to lead the group.

So nothing was skipped.

Edit: Other than that good write up. It's nice to get to know some of these other side characters but also see the two MC's progressing too.

Ah. I guess watching all of those episodes of Kingdom made me forget that small detail.

At this point I just want Kominato to have screentime too. He deserves it.

All the top runners for Best Girl of the Year were in Yamato
and Gundam Build Fighters
.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann 27/Last 30 minutes of Lagann-Hen

I feel like saying a lot here would be overmuch, and sort of contrary to the style of the show, so let me simply suffice with the statement that if Neon Genesis Evangelion is meant to subvert and deconstruct the Super Robot genre, then Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is meant to epitomize the very heart and soul of it. Like G Gundam, there isn't an excess of subtlety to the show; it wears its heart on its sleeve, and the common theme of pressing on in hardship and never giving in to despair, but building upon every succees, is spelled out loud and clear in the show. There's an evident love of the genre built into the entire series, and that love is what enables it to so completely mesh the over the top, stupid fun and the endearing story of Simon's climb from a coward digging in the dirt to a man unafraid to challenge the world itself.
