I don't mind that trope but it wasn't handled well in Yamato. My biggest criticism about the show (aside from balloon ship CG early on) was that it seemed like the Garmillians in general needed just a little more character development to better sell some of the angles presented.
You missed my edit on the last page. lol

Also, I think everyone else was great. Including Domel and some of the more cartoony villains. I just think trying to redeem Dessler is a bit of a joke.

oh i see it now lol i was surprised she ultimately didn't but leaving multiple missing villains would probably raise too many questions than a misplaced Berger.

I loved Domel too but I really wanted to know more about his life and relationship with the one girl if I'm remembering right. It's not like everything needed to be expanded on as I assume quite a few were just holdovers from enemies of the week of the original show but for the ones with focus, I think it would have been nice.

Well, the girl was in prison but at least she's free at the end. It just seems like everyone got a wrap up except that Jirellan who ends up sudukoing in front of Dessler.

Hyouka ep 1 (rewatch)
still the GOAT Kyoani show

Chitanda is a much more interesting character than i remembered her being, and Satoshi's narration sets up the driving force for the first part of show without feeling like your typical "let me explain everything!" exposition

Oreki is still the star of the show though
Until Mayaka ofc
and with the foreknowledge of what happens later, his hubris and denial sets up a lot of room for him to grow in a completely natural way, while he shows enough depth even in the first episode to avoid feeling like a gimmick.

One of Hyouka's strengths is that it doesn't need life-and-death drama to sell it's characters and their motivations. Since real life doesn't work the way your average Key show does, it's much easier to empathize with characters who exhibit natural and believable development over the course of a show.

None of it would be possible without the fantastic work Kyoani put into their animation and direction to allow the characters to show off believable, subdued emotions that a show of this caliber needs. And the background art is fantastic too!

I can't believe i thought this was boring once....

PSA: watch this if you haven't, you deserve a treat!

Angry Grimace

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "does something taste funny to you?"
Working!! Season 1, 1-10

Fun show, although Inami's androphobia seems less funny and more just kinda sad, given that she's basically non-functional in society. I have yet to see anyone else comment on the show (since the first two seasons were a long time ago), but I'm like 99% sure there are a ton of people who hate the show solely because of Inami since she would be a legitimate liability to have literally anywhere in the world outside of a women's prison.

And when the sister asked if Takanashi is into getting hit, I don't think either Inami or the sister came out of that with the wrong idea because I'm pretty sure Takanashi does in fact like getting hit.

It's not as good. :C

Especially if it's animated, the animation and colors ruin everything. Mangas are fine.

What did you think of Alex, from Gangsta?

I havent watched Gangsta yet.

It's perfection.

Not quite. Suu isnt there yet and neither is Papi, although I know, they iwll be introduced later. But the first episode is thusly not perfect :p

Sentai license Monster Musume.

10/10 comfy. Cute reintroduction to the characters. Marching OP = best

Gangsta 01

Took me a while to realize these were the MCs, but they've got a good amount of charm hidden away. Surprised how little discussion this is getting elsewhere seeing as its manglobe's. Top candidate seasonal waifu.

Charlotte 01

So much happened this episode, feels like 2-3 episodes worth of plot you'd see elsewhere. Sequence in the middle where the others are introduced was great art wise. I like how everyone's power has a Shyamalan flaw to it.

Bikini Warriors 01

Pretty funny. Not sure how long the joke can carry it, but it makes sense for the <5 minute length since it also looks like they're spending the animation budget where it counts.

Wakaba Girl 01

It's a crime episodes aren't normal length. Fills out my four cute schoolgirls doing cute things withdrawal perfectly otherwise.

Twitter rumors have it that the new Gundam will be directed by Goro Taniguchi (Code Geass) and written by Hiroyuki Yoshino (Code Geass, Guilty Crown). Could be... interesting?
The sequel to GC we never know we need...Fuck
Lol, that's the first time I've heard that sentiment from someone getting into anime, usually it's the opposite.

I don't really understand though. I just watched Angel's Egg (a movie, though) yesterday from 1985 and it still looks amazing.
You should watch the Patlabor Early Days OVAs and Movies too. The intro sequences of the movies look fucking amazing.

Yamato notes
So I was a bit bored and decided to scrub through the end of Yamato again, and as the montage at the beginning of the movie kind of showed, Berger really did have a pointless Red Shirt "death" in the series at episode 20:

gkzBSekl.jpg

That's literally the last time you see him... and the way he unceremoniously disappears makes me wonder if they had the movie written all along and basically planted the seed there for his return in a post-Dessler/pre-finale context.
The old military guy(s) who piloted the aircraft that deliver the drill bomb in ep 20 (and also disappeared in the cloud like Burger's aircraft carrier) makes a return in the movie too.

Monster Musume 1
Pretty boring first episode with the only saving grace being the brilliance that is Yu Kobayashi. And to think this shit is comparatively tame compared to what happens later on.

tame is an understatement. How would they adapt the farm scene? Surely that would be a bluray only OVA sorta thing.

Yeah, I've seen DFrag. I ended up really enjoying it... I have a few volumes of the manga too. To be fair, DFrag took a while to grow on me as well, so I'm gonna stay on the KKK train to see if it too grows on me.

I thought you had, but wanted to make sure. I personally went from Defrag to KKK anime and found it to be actually more tame lol. But Im liking it so far.

Monster girls are the new ship girls, except at least thirty times better. Sorry Ein.

Ship girls werent that great to begin with.

Mushishi 2: 13-14,16-17
Turns out I accidentally watched 15 before those episodes. -_-

Great show like always, and man there are some amazing concepts for the Mushis. Like the one that
absorbs you if you step on its shadown, and you become its shadow while the person that was the shadow appears with the memories gone, the premise of this one gives me the chills.
Honestly I wish Doctor Who would rip off some of the ideas because they would make some great monster concepts. ^_^

Mushishi 11

Skipping ahead since this is mostly episodic and doesn't matter! Someone of a Princess Mononoke vibe from this one which I'll assume is both sourcing the same sort of folklore. Of the few eps of this I've seen so far, the truth behind Mujika's role on the mountain and Ginko's acceptance of the bittersweet reality of it all might have been the most tragic yet. Igaashi outdid himself with this ep.

Dammit Narag, you can't just skip episode 7 like that, or any episode for that matter. But 7, in particular, is my favorite!

You did id Ichigo, from the bottom

Awesome closure for Ichigo story, even more awesome with all the "passing the baton" theme in the climax, dat encore, last scene, and everything.
With Ichigo finally surpass Mizuki and now its her turn waiting for Akari, its give me chill.

Truly worth it watching this show for 100+ eps, so good.

Yeah, I just assume they were still aboard the ship and managed to escape death. I suppose if you don't watch the movie, you could just assume they all died since he's so relatively minor by comparison.

Gintama 165

I could've gone for a full live action episode.
This, and a few other shots of other studios, is why I think anime must be poverty. You compare it to South Park studios where they have this huge office in the middle of Manhattan and you wonder if they shouldn't just start making satire instead of semi-pornographic monster girl animes. lol

Working!! 4

Really funny episode. Souta's family is so amazing~

Souma with his FBI skills was pretty amusing too (as was Inami pummeling him).

Million Doll 01

This show is actually better than I expected.

Aside from the horrible quality (one liveshow basically consisted of two different frames) there aren't any major flaws. The setting, an idol blogger repping his favorite group on the internet is actually refreshing to see and the main hikikomori girl also has some great voice acting (I think she's Nozomi from Love Live!).

It's also really short, 8 minutes or something, I recommend it.

Really ? Satoshi's lines always felt about as subtle as throwing a brick through the library window. "Hey this is our protagonist, this how he feels, this is his motto and modus operandi. Oh the episode is ending ? Quick Oreki, let me quickly explain why the actions you undertook today signify the break from your usual character and the start of your arc (which we have already spoiled in the opening but no matter.)

That was very much in line with his characterization though.and his behavior towards Oreki who's somewhat lethargic and needs to be talked to like that if you want a non-awkward conversation going on.

That said, I don't quite remember how on the nose it is in episode 1, a rewatch is for me in order anyways. But Shinsekai Yori first...and then I'm currently finishing up another excellent show I heard rather little about previously.

Hey everyone!

I thought I'd just pop by here and ask if anyone can give me some good anime recommendations.

I'm an absolute novice when it comes to anime. I only watched DBZ to completion in my younger years. I watched the Persona 4 Animation series last year because of how much I enjoyed Persona 4 Golden. Recently I've watched Toradora! and Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches due to a friend's suggestion. Enjoyed both and now I'm looking for more. They don't have to be romance related at all, it was just the taste of my friend. I'd also like it to be relatively new as I don't think I can deal with blurry anime unless it's DBZ haha.

Welcome! Its difficult to say what you would like or not so I will go safe and suggest Fate Zero to start.

Sore ga Seiyuu! - 01

Granted I haven't seen Shirobako yet, but I guess this is similar in which it follows the production process. Only this focuses on voice acting and features more.. moe?
It was kinda interesting with the information dump throughout by the doll on how stuff works, and I'm going to assume it's accurate. ED was pretty nice, got surprised by the sudden Angel Thesis!

This is a show showing how voice actress process works? That seems kind of interesting. Shirobako touched on it but not heavily.

Opening: I LOVED IT.
Ending: See above.

Monster girls finally get animated.

And it was beautiful.

9or0xDZ.jpg

And with the announcement of a new Monster Girl game.

All I need is to see greatest girl Suu.

And I can attain enlightenment.

I would like to congratulate you on showing great restraint :D
Maybe you will survive after all!

Hanayamata

Anime of ∞.

Ha -na
Na -ru
Ya -ya
Ma -chi
Ta -mi

These are the 5 girls that make up Hanayamata and this anime is simply amazing. When I was acting a little silly a week ago, Cajun and I were talking when he linked me the OP for this song in it's full glory and I fell in love so hard; I listened to it nonstop for at least 5 hours. I was captivated by the song and going into the anime, I had no idea what I was in store for.

The main girls of Hanayamata are Hana and Naru, though the other three are also mains without a doubt, it's because of Hana and Naru that Hanayamata is what it is. It's a great story about fitting in, about doing something that you want to do because you just want to have fun, not doing things that you're forced into or that you're burdened with. The way it's told really reminds me of myself. Like Naru, I always had/have difficulties fitting in, I'm shy and quiet and it's hard for me to just break out (it's why I say silly things sometimes). I didn't expect a story like this at all and it really touched me; made me very emotional, even though Hanayamata is probably an anime most wouldn't shed a tear for. It's very uplifting, very happy and the struggles that the girls are presented with feel so real.

Naru isn't the only one with these fitting in issues. Hana, our exceptionally pretty and beautiful blonde girl of the show; the one who really sets in motion of getting the yosakoi group together, has had the unfortunate trouble of trying her absolute best to even find people interested in yosakoi, always putting on a brave face and just going for it. Tami, the refined and very wealthy girl has always been faced with trying to please her father, to be the princess she thinks he wants her to be. Yaya also has trouble dealing with the problems of being accepted, she's like "a lone wolf, but is really just lonely" (Not my words, the great Naru said that, the whole scene was absolutely brilliant). Machi has issues dealing with her older sister and the "troubled" past that she was involved with.

The issues feel real and sure, most of them could honestly be anime clichés that everyone has seen a hundred times over, but the way it was presented to me, just really touched me.

Now the issues aren't even important to the story, not really. The entire plot of Hanayamata is to get enough girls interested in yosakoi to then form a club and finally enter a festival that's three months away and perform a dance. We start with Hana and Naru, then Yaya joins, followed by Tami and lastly Machi. I haven't spoken about her yet, but the last important person to Hanayamata is Sari-sensei (Machi's older sister, also sounds like her name is Sally). Without Sari-sensei, Hanayamata would have stopped at a stand still. She's a very pretty young lady who really puts faith into the 5 girls and when everything comes together, it all just works so well.

The story is simple, the issues the girls face aren't important, but the combination of it all works so well, I mean, it really just works. It's also incredible how during the first "festival" the girls entered, it didn't go to plan at all, it shows this realistic view that just because you practice and try your best, you may not nail down the performance for when it comes time to show your stuff; heck this can be an anime cliché too, but again, it just works and makes sense.

The art style used in Hanayamata is gorgeous, incredibly pretty; the type of art that makes people happy and even squeeful by the sight of it. The animation is good too, but I can't say that it's without flaws. I normally don't have much to say about animation quality because I don't know if what I'm looking at is bad or good, due to how I view the anime, but there were a few flaws in how characters were drawn in certain scenes and some of the environment detail too; I won't say it's a detriment to Hanayamata though, it looks so good and with the art style used, it's not a big enough deal for me to knock it down, just an observation. I will say though, the first episode is one of the prettiest in all of anime that I have ever seen, the Sakura petals flying all over the place, the quick dance with Hana and Naru, the way it's all shown is just fantastic. The show itself is also incredibly pretty and once again, red blemishes on the girls to exude this innocent and "pure" feeling, I love that so much.

I also don't normally comment on cinematography, but in Hanayamata, it was really well done; I know in anime you can draw whatever you want to showcase feelings and it's easy to drive a point home, but all the cuts to showcase the emotions the girls were feeling, so well done. The shots of legs/feet showing reserve at times or the withered flowers followed by cuts to the girls themselves, there was a clear cut reason for just about every scene shown in Hanayamata, not a single frame wasted and for that, huge props to the guys that did that, it was amazing.

Sound/Music..... Well as you know, I fell in love with the OP and really that's how I felt about the music in Hanayamata. Throughout the episodes there was great BGM, but what made it so good was the use of the OP in an instrumental variation. Certain scenes would play out like they should and bam, you can hear that amazing OP in the background, really giving weight to what's happening on the screen. I'm purposefully linking the full version of the OP, give it a listen to. It's quite honestly OP of ∞ for me (I'm most definitely hyping this song to hell and back, but I love it). I've been focusing on the OP on purpose too, it's not like the ED is bad, because it's not, it's actually quite good, but nothing like the brilliance of the OP. The rest of the soundtrack is good, but "ahhhhhh"...... that's how I felt everytime I heard the OP come on during an episode.

The yosakoi dance. It takes all 12 episodes before we're shown the dance in it's all glory and my goodness is it worth it. We literally watch a group of girls who know next to nothing about yosakoi start with just the naruko (Clappers), then the recruitment of other girls, followed by creating costumes and training; constant practice to get the choreography down perfectly. When Tami works on the music for their dance, and when we realize that it's the OP that they're performing, tears shed. When we see the girls get recruited and see how the girls all face their issues, tears shed. When we see the dance in it's entirety, especially with how it happened, tears shed. This show is not sad, it's not dramatic, it's not even something to have tears fall for, but my goodness did I love it.

I'm overhyping this show to the moon, but I can't help it (Take the gifs I made for Kiniro Mosaic (another AOTF) and transplant them all over this one, so good). We need more seasons, we need more dancing, we need more music and costumes. I absolutely love it and it could be considered average by everyone in the world, I won't let that stop me from enjoying this at all, ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ~~~~~~~~~ Honestly. (We also need more seasons of a lot of things I've watched lately......)

Monster Girls - Episode 1

Ecchi, lewd, so good, it could make a great hentai for sure. Miia is super hot and the orgasm at the beginning, amazing. The protag, or darling for all I know, is a really kind guy, but man it would be so hard to not give in... Lamia being cold blooded is really hot, gives many reasons to cuddle and get close to.

Art style is really really good, I love how it looks like, stunning design. OP and ED are really good, love the Love Bomb the OP has, ED sounds bad ass.

Really nice that the censoring isn't that bad, makes it worth watching.

Can't wait to see Papi and Suu, <3.

Bikini Warriors - Episode 1

4 minutes of pure lewdness, thank you very much. Not really a fan of the huge breasts, but I will enjoy this one anyways, the lewd was fantastic. The moaning was really good too. Mage <3

Sora ga Seiyuu! - Episode 1 (Seiyuu's life)

Ichinose is super cute and the way she talks to her doll is amazing, gifs could be made from how she interacts with the doll! Ichigo is sooooo adorable, *squeeeee*, love her already! Rin is adorable too and it's funny to see the youngest girl have the most experience, that's really funny; all the girls are really really extra cute! I love how it's a show about just being a voice actor/actress/seiyuu, it's really interesting and if this is anything like how it is actually done, that's cool.

The art style is mega cute, the sounds are okay too, not enough to judge really. The seiyuu though, are fantastic. It's interesting to see a show about new seiyuu working the job, but the seiyuu performing are actually really good, the whole thing is just a lot of fun.

One of the best OP's ever too, it's so much fun I love it, same with the ED. This is an anime to watch if you want some laughs and are looking for extra cute things.

A great Slice of Life this season. After the lewd and ecchi, my heart is now purified, but only just a little!

I knew before, it's why I'm watching it!

Hanayamata was a personal favorite recently, and I cant wait for it to be released on bluray at some point. The OP is way too catchy and perfect. The artwork is just gorgeous, even with the shark looking girl. Its all so pleasant and calming to watch.

Centaur's Worries will get an adaptation one day, no worries

I really hope it does! I can think of one person who would squee like no tomorrow if it gets adapted.

MONSTER MUSUME EVERYDAY LIFE WITH MONSTER GIRLS 1

Why is it all caps Crunchyroll?

Anyway, it's not particularly funny, but I appreciate that they pull everything off without clunky censoring. Fans of the genre will enjoy it.

I'll be alright without it, though. This could be a straight backlog season for me.

I think the first episode was extremely tame and I hope it continues that, although seeing how the manga goes, Im sure it will start flashing boobs everywhere soon. Then the real risk to this thread happens.

I guess Bikini Warriors is inevitable. I don't see how you do anything with this concept after this 3 minute episode though.

Enough said.

Bikini warriors seems like the most boring concept and Im not sure how long they could sustain it.
The seiyuu show looks fairly interesting though.

Pretty good first episode. They really nailed the visuals ,the story and characters are good, too.
Let's see where it goes from here.

Charlotte - EP01
I'm not sure about this one.I need to see a few more episodes before I can make up my mind.
Code Geass-ish powers with a harry potter spin is certianly not the worst idea ever.

Monster Musume as a whole is really generic. The way it's executed is so dull that I don't understand why you would come to this over real monster girl porn if that's what you are after.
