I still haven't found a single show really worth watching this season among CR's lineup... but hey, that means I can spend the time I'd have spent on seasonal shows on better things, like catching up on MHA!

Nothing wrong with cutting into the backlog you haven't touched in months, or maybe years.

So I can think the Wife and I have finally settled on what we're keeping up with this season:

The Carry Over:
MHA S2
ReCreatora
Sakura Quest
Ninja Girl

The Best Stuff:
Aho Girl
Made in Abyss
Welcome to the Ballroom
Princess Principal

The Okay Stuff:
Love and Lies
Saiyuki Reload Blast
Vatican Miracle Examiner
Fastest Finger First
Altair: A Record of Battles
My First Girlfriend is a Gal
Gamers!

Still feels like a weaker season, as a number of the Okay Stuff titles don't feel nearly as strong as they really should be.

Honestly, more people diving into backlog stuff this season would be a welcome change of pace, really.

More chances for people to watch Majin Bone.

When will the New Game season dub go today on FunimationNOW? 12-1 pm EST. I hope 12pm because I'm on lunch and want to watch this while eating.

Is there a classic anime discussion thread on GAF? I'm just getting back into watching after Castlevania then burning through the first half of Little Witch Academia on Netflix. In particular I've been looking for lists and hit upon this Reddit list:

https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/wiki/recommendations

in particular the 'by year' section, because I'm wanting to rewatch some of the shows I saw back when I was a kid and work my way forward. Showing my age, I was in 4th/5th grade when Mazinger Z came on TV and 13 when Robotech came over. After that I caught a few more in HS/college like AD Police, Bubblegum Crisis and Akira (of course).

This thread seems focused on the new releases? Anything for old people looking back and then going forward? I'm not bound by genre. SciFi, Romance, Horror, whatever works for me as long it's a good story.

But people do talk about olde anime.

I hope you will watch VIFAM. I miss Daba Myroad kun :(

The old classics are allowed here too. It's not like we're bound by the season.

Fun Fact: Some of the most well-written anime out there are aimed at grade schoolers.

In fact I'd say they're more mature than 90% of the "adult" anime made today.

You are probably 100% correct. Anime without otaku pandering and standard tropes is rare..

OK, cool. The title made it seem like it was for newer releases. :)!

Nah, yoi're good. I'm always watching 4-5 older shows at a time...

This season I'm following:

Carryovers:
My Hero Academia
Re;Creators
Sakura Quest

What I've Definitely Liked so Far:
Aho Girl
Fate/Apocrypha
Kakegurui
New Game!!
Tsuredure Children

Waiting on the Dub For:
Gamers
Restaurant to Another World

Probably will drop if the next few episodes don't impress me:
18if

I dont know what makes me sadder, people dropping 18if, or Dive!! not being on lists. The anime that really push what it means to be an anime are never liked or embraced here. These anime needs to be praised.

It reminds me of people missing the celebrated Hand Shakers.

18if's first episode wasn't good and that's why people are dropping it. Also you were literally the only person on the planet praising Hand Shakers.

Dive! is okay so far and I'm still curious on where it's going. It's an intriguing sports anime so far but I can see it going either direction at this point. There are some parts I hope they focus more on like how focusing so heavily on the sport is already messing up the MC's social life and then there is the stuff with MC's girlfriend which I'm still curious what they are going to do with that.

Interesting as a form of entertainment, yet completely wrong.
Hopefully the MC realizes his error, though I get the sense this show won't go that route.

Made In Abyss 2

Still nice, the show does a pretty good job on heightening the mystery of the abyss. Unfortunately, they didn't make a raid this time, so this wasn't as stunning as the last episode, but it looks like things will start rolling for real on the next one.

Made in Abyss Episode 2:

Yea, this show continues to impress with both its artistic design and its world building, both of which both continue in earnest, as does the character construction of Riko. That being said seems we are not wasting time as some obvious events given the hint have transpired to move the game much further then expected for the next couple of episodes.

Most of the ones I'll list below double as a comedy. Silver Spoon is one of those shows that is extremely funny but also aim to teach. Regardless all of these are top notch.

Barakamon
Space Brothers
Great Teacher Onizuka (though it has a bit of ecchi it's still one of the greats)
Hyouka
Shirokuma Cafe
Usagi Drop (only watch the Anime for all that is holy)
Working (all three seasons)
Aishiteruze Baby

I liked Working!! and Barakamon they were both pretty good slice of life

Kids on the Slope is also fantastic, if you haven't seen it yet.

tyvm, i'll report back if I latch on to any of those

Sakura Quest: 5

They finally got a concrete idea, it's a small step considering how long it's going to take but a step nonetheless to making changes to the town. I thought the talk Sanae and Tatsuo had was good and I thought the group giving Sanae her space without being overly awkward about it was good too along with the words of encouragement for Yoshino. And the group overall chemistry is building nicely.

Knights & Magic 1-2

An isekai anime whereupon a nerdy loser with a set of skills he's particularly good at dies and gets reincarnated into a fantasy world as a cute shota in which his only problems are that he is too perfect at everything he does and all the girls want to fuck him. What a novel and interesting concept this is.

I want to say that the method of his demise in the real world is wrought by the ever bloodthirsty japanese trucks randomly appearing out of nowhere that have claimed the lives of countless characters over the years and whose reign of terror continues unabated but for the life of me I can't even recall anymore if that was indeed the case.

Made in Abyss 02

A largely exposition episode on the world and characters but it's tapped in my interest once I understood how integral the Abyss is to the world and Riko. Particularly, towards the end seeing Reg appear amidst the records.

I would comment that there are segments of exposition that come across as odd in the way they are delivered but that's probably just me nitpicking. I'm not a fan of Gilo's narration of her mother's story - it doesn't come off like he handled it with a degree of sensitivity it deserves, rather just him reading it out bluntly.

Riko is a pretty impressive character - I really like her personality in general and it's interesting to see that her relationship with her much revered mother isn't entirely obvious.

It continues to look great!

Riko's backstory reminds me the issues affecting children exposed to the Zone in Roadside Picnic. That's a good thing. Show remains stunning too.
Okay firehawk, okay.

The art design for this show is outrageous.

I really could have done without the (very) brief moments of 'loli' content, though. Not sure why they had to exist at all?

It's a shame that they seem to want to remain faithful to the source material. I really hope this won't ruin the series' reputation.
