Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

quick shoutout to arcade shock. ordered a ps3-ps4 adapter for my friend who is going to UDF for Curleh. they accidentally sent a ps3/4-wii u adapter. emailed them and they sent out a new one right away with quick shipping and emailed me a prepaid return label. all this within a couple hours of my first email to them.

good shit, will def be buying from them first from here on out.

They're the only place I buy from right now. Nothing but positive experiences with them.

Just got the 8bitdo arcade stick (Sanwa version) along with their SNES bluetooth dongle to use with my new SNES. I really highly recommend it. I've used a HRAP EX-SE for years, and was curious to see how the Sanwa stick and buttons felt compared to the Seimitsu ones I'm used to. Honestly the difference is nowhere near as great as I expected, pretty minor as far as the stick goes. I still think I prefer the Seimitsu LS32, but that's probably just because I'm used to it. I should note I don't really play fighters, lots of shmups and action games.

Anyway, the stick is great. I was worried that it looked a bit cheap, and while the plastic around the sides sort of is, the bottom and top surfaces are great, and it has an overall really nice buld quality. JLF stick and normal Sanwa buttons. Can be used wirelessly with PC/ios/android/mac, and if you have a dongle, older systems, including my PS3 (can use the SNES dongle with a microUSB cable). Also can be used with the USB cord. Unfortunately the SNES dongle doesn't allow you to remap default button assignments, but the good news is they mapped all 8 SNES buttons to the 8 main buttons on the stick (the tiny start and select buttons also work, but who needs 'em). Problem was they were all off by 1 from what I want, so I opened it up and rewired all the buttons clockwise one each. Now my Super Metroid control setup is perfect, exactly like I've had it set up for years on an emulator with my EX-SE.

In short: This stick is great, good build quality, looks good, connectivity with the widest range of platforms I know, and probably the best choice for easily using a good stick with old consoles.

Yeah, Arcade Shock is legit. They even got my JLF in a day ahead of schedule (I.E. today).

Arcadeshock has been my goto for the past 3 years. Their exclusive/import sticks are nice for someone like me who buys too many.

I've had nothing but good experiences with Focusattack as well and will go to them if they're having good deals or arcade shock is out of something.

They even threw in a bunch of Darkstalkers stickers, which was a pretty cool touch.

Having a problem with my te2 I'm getting double inputs from the stuck when I move forward, backwards and up when I'm going threw menus. It's happens randomly. Any advice?

What's your button map for Super Metroid? I wanna try it with my HRAP.

Really been eyeing this one. Thanks for the impressions.

Which model of the TE2 you got? Sounds like a common PCB error that was happening with some of the later ones. Could always check the wiring on your stick to make sure everything is in the right place.

Hey guys talked to a couple people and they also think it would be cool idea to have a listing of shops in the OP.

I'm leaving an hidden link in this post (quote to see). Hopefully an open edit will go smoothly with no vandalism, else we'll have to resort to something more controlled.

Hope everyone that can will contribute ;)

...

Good idea. I added my bit.

using a shorter shaft, everything sits below the gate & base, meaning i can actually fit the JLF into the stick.

now to start meddling with the PCB in order to swap out the buttons and wire the JLF.

Hopefully there will be a brook converter for Switch eventually. It would be nice to play USF2 on a stick but I'm not going to buy a separate HRAP for it.

I have the ultra sf4 one. It's really annoy getting dashes when I don't want them and random inputs. buttons are fine

Cool. I added Arcade Shock, Focus Attack, and Paradise Arcade Shop. I think the details are correct, though I'm not sure if FAS ships from Minnesota or from Hawaii.

Paradise Arcade Shop is in Minnesota and that's where all their stock is (they moved back to MN couple years ago now, I think?) - really nice folks. I happen to be local, so whenever I need stuff I always end up picking it up and then talking to them for like a half hour at least.

I'm just gonna wait for a new Hori stick. People were saying the Fighting Edge was being teased, and that looks pretty solid from what little I've seen of it.

I use this:

[shot] [jump] [run] [aim up]
[item] [canc] [menu] [aim dn]

Because the controls are remappable in SM to an extent, you just need to make sure the L and R buttons are where you want them, because those are the only buttons you can map aim to. And obviously start is not remappable.

Yeah, that's happened before on those. I'd know, I have one. I'd check your wiring to the JLF, if you have a spare JLF just drop it in and make sure nothing wonky is happening there.

If not you might have to hit up Madcatz and good luck with that.

After playing with my newly installed 1mm actuator and 2lb spring in the Hori Rap4, and i can honestly say that i like it more than the default stuff in the hayabusa stick.

besides a little time of getting used to the tighter gate and better response in shmups , i hardly feel any difference when like playing a fightgame like UMvC3 for example.

thanks for the advice again guys!

It's over now, unfortunately. :(
The link just goes to Razer's main page now, but this was it:
https://insider.razerzone.com/index.php?threads/insider-ces-2017-appreciation-event.19519/
It's was a 24-hour thing the Razer store does every year around CES. One item for 50% off if you signed up for their webpage. I remember signing up a couple years ago, but everything sold out and the site crashed. This year it actually worked and the stock lasted.

A Panthera for $100 + tax shipped was a steal. It looks like an easy stick to put one of the Brook PCBs in.

Damn, I would have definitely bought one. Thanks!

Is there a way to reduce the throw and/or increase the tension in my stock JLF? Or is there another stick that's tighter with smaller deadzones? I feel like I have to throw the thing around so much to hit all my inputs and it feels so loose.

Also, I know this is an Arcade Stick thread so hopeully ok to ask a fightpad question: Are there no good fightpads out there for PS4 these days? I'm just seeing the Hori Fighting Commander and the revised version of the Madcatz FightPad Pro. The HFC is supposed to be OK but "cheap" feeling and I've heard about issues with diagonal inputs either not registering properly after a while or just being really tight and hard to hit. The MadCatz is supposed to be improved over their horrible prior edition but still not great - not comfortable, button positioning not ideal, d-pad complaints.

I wanted to get a new Fightpad, but I don't think there are many good options. I tried the Hori pad, but I thought the d-pad was too small and stiff to be comfortable. I ended up trading it back in. No idea about the Mad Catz one with the improved d-pad, but I don't like that it has triggers, which doesn't make sense to me, the left stick being close to the d-pad, and I don't trust their quality anymore.

Not directly an arcade stick question, but I'm putting together a cab and need some art printed. I'm looking to do a SFIICE homage and require custom bezel art. I've already consulted local places (Kinkos, Staples) and they refuse to print anything that's been copyrighted.

Any ideas? I don't mind going through an online business.

Yep. I don't need the analog stick or the triggers. Their explanation is that people may want to play non-fighting games with it so it should be a capable of analog trigger inputs. What?? I can't think of any game you would ever want to play on this that needs a trigger.

Honestly I wish I just had a DS4 with six face buttons and L2/R2 buttons. I actually don't mind the DS4 d-pad at all (which was a big surprise to me).

Get a Seimitsu stick.

Yeah, sounds like you want a Seimitsu, I have an LS-32 which seems to be the most popular, and I love it. You can indeed mod a JLF:

http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=41451&start=0

to be even tighter than a Seimitsu. Also in that link is the engage and throw for popular Seimitsu sticks; LS-32 is actually the loosest.

If anyone is interested in this arcade stick please PM for more info.

I bought it on impulse because it looks cool and different. It's built well and the sanwa parts as just as good as ever. Normally goes for 235. I'm only asking 100 plus shipping.
It comes with 3 other replacement art tops and the tool to remove the plexi.

I read the TOS and didn't see anything about not selling stuff on the site. Hope this is okay.

I currently have an SFIV TE stick for my 360, but primarily game on my XB One. Now that we had a baby my disposable income has gone to nearly £0, so I can't afford to add an XB One compatible stick.

Thanks to Christmas, and backwards compatibility the amount of games available to me that I would ordinarily use my fightstick has increased exponentially, and I'm really REALLY missing using my stick.

How viable is tunnelling, using the Xbox app on my laptop? I tested using my pad without any batteries in by connecting it via USB to my laptop and saw either none or imperceptible lag. Can I expect the same with my stick (can't test til I get it out of storage).

For what it's worth, I don't play competitively at all. Just single player stuff so far. I just can't keep playing Killer Instinct Classic with this fucking pad anymore!

Do seimitsu buttons have a habit of wearing out quickly/getting kinda stuck? I couple buttons on my stick started getting harder to press smoothly, so I just replaced the set with some spare sanwas.

How long do buttons typically last anyway?

if you are just playing casually the xbox app streaming is good enough tbh. i wouldn't use it for tournament practice or anything but for just messing around it's just fine.

Seimitsus actually tend to last me a lot longer than Sanwas. Probably just bad luck either way.

I tend to change out my buttons every 6 months to a year depending on how they do. I also happen to play a whole lot more than an average player too though.

Thanks. I've only noticed lag when streaming a game to the app (whilst the missus bogarts the TV). I'll have to dig out the stick this weekend when I get a chance, and see how I get on. Just glad to have found someone who's tried it already.

I'm not sure if this is what you're referring to, but in my experience Seimitsu buttons sort of have two levels of tension when they're new: very easy to go half-way down (which still usually registers as a press), but then requires a lot more tension to go all the way down. With time this goes away, and that "halfway" point disappears, and they're easy to press all the way.
