Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Anyone here who has ordered from arcadeshock not gotten shipping confirmation? I'm getting kind of worried as it releases Friday and I haven't gotten any emails regarding processing.

Anyone here have any experience with the foehammer cases? Thinking about buying an S2 and installing it myself. How does the case feel? Hollow? Sturdy? Anything to compare it to? I have a left over madcatz SE stick that I modded so I can take the jlf and the buttons out and save a bit of money.

I have tons of foehammers. They're super sturdy. Don't feel hollow at all.

They suck at communication, though, so be prepared to have some patience.

OK thanks for the info. If you have one are you using a ps360+ or something similar. If so how do you mount the PCB?

I'm looking for one of the custom cases and they seem to be coming up a lot.

I have ps360s in most of them. I have somebody else do the wiring. I don't know anything about the technical stuff. I can take pictures if you like.

I think they are for customers ordering 2. My shipping email shows 1 package and another user over at SRK confirmed they're putting his 2 in one box. I'll update when I get mine Friday.

That's a friend of mine. :)

He's getting two on Friday and going to give me one to swap out whenever I get my order from Arcadeshock. #hype

Also get my cab friday!

What a wonderful week. :D

Hori Arcade One? Going from pad to stick can be a difficult process for a while until you get the hang of it. If you are having trouble on a dpad doing quarter circles now I believe youll have an even harder time learning stick. If you see yourself playing more and more fighting games a stick is a good investment in the long term. I'd see if you know anyone that has one and try it out for a bit before making a purchase as good sticks are usually $125+

Also the X1 is probably going to be pretty starved for fighters besides KI,MKX, and Tekken7 so I am not sure if investing in a stick is a good idea until more games are announced or if you really think you'd use it consistently.

Arcade sticks are accurate...but that's not the issue. Different people have different preferences.

My recommendation is that you stop by an arcade (if possible) or borrow a stick from a friend to give it a try before you take the plunge on a good stick. If neither of those is possible you can try to get a less expensive or used stick, just to see if you like it.

Honestly, for MKX in particular, I find a controller to be slightly easier to use than a stick (and I'm pretty casual myself). You mentioned quarter circle motions giving you issues though, but MK doesn't actually require any QC motions unless you enable it yourself in the control options. If you insist on using QC motions though and you really can't do it on a pad, then yes, I think a stick would actually give you a bit more precision with fluid motions like that.

Cheers guys.

I thought people were pretty receptive of them over on SRK but I haven't looked closely. What's wrong with them?

Most of us like/love the Hayabusa. The Kuros are the most divisive, since some like them being slightly different from Sanwas but lots of them creak and squeak and take some wearing in. Being a Seimitsu person, myself, I love the Hayabusa when you add a 2lb JLF spring but the damned Kuros I just cannot use.

Customs still didn't release my Gamerfingers. At this time they won't be here before the VLX. Kind of ridiculous. Bleh. They take every opportunity to take my money.

Interested to replace the stick and maybe buttons...is there any particular size I need to go for or is it just preference? BTW Sanwa or Semistu (or how you spell it)

The buttons are 30mm, so for snap-ins: Sanwa OBSF-30, Seimitsu PS14 K, GamerFinger HBFS-30-G2.

For a lever, most anything should be compatible: Hori Hayabusa, Sanwa JLF/JLW, Seimitsu LS-32/40/56.

It's all up to preference. The Hayabusa and JLF are quite similar, so if you have either of those and want something different, you might want to look into the Seimitsu levers. Unlike the directly actuated microswitches on the JLF and the Hayabusa, Seimitsu uses levered microswitches for a shorter throw and a stiffer feel. Personally, I love the LS-32, but as I said, it's all down to preference.

The ones that came in my Fighting Edge were passable, though by no means exceptional. However, the ones that came in my HRAP4 tended to squeak and sometimes stick. Previously, I used Sanwa buttons exclusively, but over the past few months I've switched to GamerFingers, and now I run those in all my sticks (including the soon to arrive VLXes).

I... like the kuros.

Me too man, me too. I think some people are just really picky with their buttons, which is fine, but they might go too far and confuse "I don't like x" with "x is bad". Or maybe there's just a lot of variance between buttons. I know the squeaking definitely exists on mine (but it's not really noticeable when playing), but I've never noticed any of the sticking that some people talk about.

They're inconsistent, IMO. I didn't have any issues on my regular HRAP4. I got the Kai, and it squeaked a LOT and felt the buttons were giving me some resistance. It started to hurt my fingers after a while (note: the original HRAP4 did not do this).

My buddy, who got the HRAP4 too, told me my Kai was really squeaky and bothered him too. If they don't squeak, they're just as good as the Sanwas.

I got the Gamerfingers because some people on this thread swore by them and they quickly became my favorite.

Well, you are in a thread with people spending hundreds of dollars on these luxury items. People are going to be picky. :)

Also this.

I'll have to try a set. I have some friends who got sets of them and love how they feel.

Oh, you're totally right. People aren't wrong to be picky about these things, for sure. I just think that *some* of the complaints surrounding the Kuro's are kinda overblown, and the negativity might deter some people from buying the newer Hori sticks when they might actually not even notice the difference between buttons.

I really want GamerFinger buttons for my VLX but I just can't work with the octagon. If it were any stick but the VLX, I'd probably be okay with the GamerFinger design. This is the peak of first world problems, I know.

You might be right, but in general, I think people in this thread are really good at explaining why they don't like the buttons (or parts in general), and always frame things with YMMV.

And there are people like you to balance it out! It all works out in the end.

For gamerfinger, am I buy the cap, or the mechanical pushbutton?

I'm happy with how they look in my HRAP4. If I really can't stand how they look in the VLX, I'll just replace the art, though that's only as a last resort.

You get the whole buttons. Now, the microswitches are interchangeable. By default, they come with Cherry MX Red microswitches. If you want to change the actuation force, feel, or sound of the buttons, you can simply buy new microswiches and swap them out. Personally, I've tried both the Red and Blue microswitches (and I have experience with Browns in mechanical keyboards), and I prefer the silent linear red switches that come with the buttons out of the box.

Here's a pretty useful video review that includes a comparison of the different switches:

Ahhhh c'mon. Just leave FedEx already. Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeave!

Edit: Is there such a thing as a good converter for Xbox One? I have my Round 2 stick I use for PC.

My roundhouse and triple kick buttons on my stick have gone out. On 360 these are the left and right trigger buttons. I open it up and replace the buttons but it still doesn't work. I don't think it's the terminal plate, because other buttons work. Could it be the PCB?

After seeing close up pics of the VLX im happy i didn't buy.

No brushed metal no buy.

On a premium stick i would think it would be a different mould than the same materials being used on the HRAP

Hrap is all plastic. Vlx isn't.

Vlx weighs 13lbs. Hrap weighs 5.

Yeah that would be awesome. Also do you have your stick modded for ps4?

I have one modded. Did a Padhack for it.

Here is the ps4:

Dont know what board this is, but it's smaller than their stealth line:

I love foehammer sticks. I have like 6 of them. This is after selling a half dozen, lol.

Well I finally got my tracking email but everything is blank and has no scheduled delivery time or anything. Guess I'll find out tomorrow afternoon.

I... like the kuros.

Me too. When you've spent your formative years using whatever the arcade had, whether it's half-missing because of a cigarette burn, or a Track and Field with raised hemi-guards (to stop rubbing with an egg from a novelty to :) ) or jams now and again if you push too close to one side, you can get used to anything. I've said this before regarding sticks, but I honestly think some of you guys are far too fussy with your controls.

You ought to try playing using those buttons on Missile Command, then you might appreciate Kuros a little more :)

I just spent 300 dollars on a stick. I'm going to make sure everything in it is exactly how I want. There is no 'too fussy.'

I grew up in arcades. I had no control over what I played on then. I do over the sticks I'm spending hundreds of dollars on.
