Difference with the Luigi direct is he and the Direct was never hyped up by Sakurai, it was only the Sonic the Hedgehog and Rosaline, and the only time he used Miiverse and the PotD to hype up the Direct was with Rosalina, so... Pretty sure we're not getting Diddy Kong this week.
Got a few ideas on the reveal:
Diddy + Dixie: Definitely the most likely, especially since Tropical Freeze is release in Japan today. Plus, Sakurai reference Valentine's Day, and Diddy and Dixie are a couple so...
Palutena: Sakurai did kinda sorta tease this. If one were to disregard the supposed leak, there'd be no logic to guess this. More of a hunch than anything.
Yoshi: If Yarn Yoshi and Yoshi's New Island is given some exposure, I can see this happening.
Shulk: Mostly due to the X announcement, could follow on from that ala Mario Kart 8 from Smash Bros last Direct. Reaching.
Bayonetta: Platinum has a presence, but mostly the same logic as Shulk
Captain Rainbow: Peach created a rainbow in the daily picture. Yep, that's it.

Honestly though, if it's anybody other than the top three, I'll be very surprised, particularly with Diddy and Dixie.

Nothing says he can't. But there's also nothing to say he has to show something Donkey Kong related this week. He could also tie Diddy's reveal into the NA/EU launch, sort of like Luigi and Dream Team.

Hoping that the Valentines Day thing was just to throw us off and they're going to show a long trailer for the game. Bunch of characters in motion showing off their moves and how they've changed.
CGI vid spliced with gameplay. Shows off some that haven't been shown off yet, and then starts announcing characters we haven't seen. Multiple new ones to set the world into talks about Smash Bros and a tentative release date that just says "Summer 2014" or "Fall" or whichever.
I'm getting my hopes up, I know, and it's probably just a recap of DKC with Diddy being shown- but hey. Diddy is back! And I still won't be able to play as him very well.

So I randomly came across vocal arrangements of Kirby music and now I insist that at least one vocal arrangement per stage in Smash.
(It also sounds better than the operatic version of Green Greens that only consists of the word Kirby over and over again that I imagined)

If Sakurai keeps complaining about how early this direct is, why would he drag his ass out of bed for nothing more than a Diddy reveal? I know I wouldn't. Maybe he won't be up though, but the wording in his Miiverse caption makes it sound like he will.

Not necessarily, remember Pokemon X & Y release with no Pokemon rep revealed. They could always hold Diddy of until the NA release of Tropical Freeze.

I think rainbow beam effect is one of customization aspect of Smash, but I could be wrong tho. It look so beautiful so I can't wait to get my hands on the game and see what they can do with the graphics.

Directs are pre-recorded you know. He doesn't have to get up for this just to make an announcement.
Also 7am isn't really that early for the average worker. It's when I get up and I go to work later than most.
So if they show footage and a newcomer today, I'm gonna do the analysis thing in GIF form again (I hope no one minds). I have a question to ask for those who are interested.

Could be an interesting idea. Along with the new coloured knockout beams to reflect who one, custom attack beams would also help distinguish who is who in the chaos. Or you could have a match where everyone has rainbow power!

I think it's been said that their relationship is up to the player, but I believe in an interview for Melee, Sakurai said that he imagined them as being lovers.

Didn't Sakurai say something about the effects not being final on peachs attack. I forget what he said for the Up Tilt picture with the hearts. Or that is the Ribbon one I was thinking of?
