Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Mario is Japan

I think I would rather have 5 new stages than 10 untouched old stages...

OOOH Smashboards lol

"If I was making SSB (and I hope to do that one day), I'd jam pack it with as much as the game could hold. 60+ characters, 50+ AT, all stages from 64 - Wii U and the games after it, and almost 2000 trophies spanning ALL of Nintendo's gaming history leaving no stone unturned. I would make it the greatest SSB of all.

EDIT: And costumes for each character."
To be fair the only part of that that would be all that ridiculous is the 2000 trophies. Not that I'm expecting 60+ characters, but it could happen.

Poor kid.

You can't successfully balance a fighting game with 60 plus characters.....
And Smash Bros. has never been known to have particularly amazing character balance. So...

Plus, UMvC3 managed to be balanced enough for 50 characters, with a decent team behind it I think they could pretty easily make a game approximately as balanced as Melee with 60.

"balanced enough"
>Hidden Missiles
>Zero
>Vergil

but then again team games actually allow characters to cover their weaknesses better than 1v1 games (alternatively known as "slap Doom on a scrub team and it'll be halfway decent cause lolmissiles")

A traditional fighter is mucn more straight forward and So what? Just because smash hasnt been well balanced in tne past doesnt mean they need to throw the baby out w/ the bathwater. That last part is a fucking Pipe dream and you know it, not to mention there are still only a few competitively viable chars in melee anyway.

With your remarks about Sakurai's decisions and comments like these, I feel you are particularly unqualified at judging whether Sakurai's choices are good or bad.

When looking for fighting games with good character balance, UMvC3 is NOT a game I would be looking to :P Not that a fighting game has to be super balanced to be fun (though too little balance and the game will beer towards train-wreck territory) but it certainly helps and the larger the roster + more variables, the harder it is to balance.

Don't care what anyone says but there are a few stages that NEED to come back in glorious HD.

-Hyrule Temple
- Onett
- Fountain of Dreams would look BEAUTIFUL
- Poke Floats (2)
- Lylat Cruise

We NEED

- New F-Zero Stage in Glorious HD
- Swapnote stage because Nikki
- Pushmo stage that works like Tetris
- Improved Pirate Ship
- New Wario Ware Stage
- W101 Virgin Victory flying around Blossom City
- etc.

Thanks. You said it better than me and less antagonistically.

you have high hopes for a guy that thinks giving Link a meteor smash on his dairs could make him OP

Edited for accuracy.

It's okay Victoria, maybe the game will be balanced by making the entire cast OP with 0 to death combos.

What better way than to make every character ridiculously powerful?

I would like to emphasize that I would definitely prefer a smaller roster with more balanced characters to a larger one with little-to-no character balance - Skullgirls is my favorite traditional fighting game for a reason, after all. All I'm arguing is that a 60+ character roster is somewhat possible. Likely? No. Possible? Yes.

I mean, what about the inevitable Smash Bros. 5? 6? The roster kinda has to expand as the precedent has been set for it to, and that would require a rather large roster eventually. And, given the choice, I think the team would prefer more characters to a more balanced game - they're selling the game primarily to a casual market, one that they can easily advertize new characters to. They... can't exactly advertize "excellent character balance!" to that market. Not nearly as well, anyway.

I totally agree, since there won't be HD remakes. Even then, 5 brand new stages would be superior

I'm curious to see what Sakurai decides to do. If he doesn't inject past stages with graphical steroids they are going to look nasty.

You don't know how smash 4 characters are currently balanced PR exactly what the physics are like so how do you possess knowledge of the context in which Link having a meteor smash would or wouldn't be OP when he made that comment, hm?

yeah but then people will complain about 0 to death combos, checkmate

also if I switch my avatar to Luigi, will you start calling me Luigi instead :P

How about a Wonderful 101 stage with a 101 stage hazards?

- Emphasis on Fountain of Dreams!!
- Poke Floats (2)
- Lylat Cruise
- Luigi's Mansion
- Corneria

Added to this!

Well you make a good point with the next iterations after 4 and 5 (3ds & wiiu, respectively) but since sakurai most likely won't be at the helm, it is a moot point.

We are talking about Sakurai attempting and wanting to create an actual balanced smash game for once and recognizing his short comings in the past. 60+ roster would be an enormous step back to that end

I think Sakurai teaming with Namco Bandai "should" help with balancing characters even with the roster being big. They do a pretty damn good job with Tekken..in tourneys I regularly see an abundance of different characters in high rank fights or placing high in tourney play.

I feel like little Mac will ultimately be proof of namco bandai's positive fighting game experience influence over smash 4.

He dodges projectiles in multiple ways and has at least 2 or 3 moves with super armor for gods sake

Not to mention super meter

nothing new today

Usually these apparently uneventful pics have interesting commentary, let's see what Sakurai says...
