Yet, none of those ever made it back to the main Mario games. It just doesn't seem like the teams handling the main series ever look at the additions made by the side games. It seems to be a strictly one way street even when they easily could have been used by the main series rather than original concepts/characters.

I somewhat agree although typically the sports, party and kart original characters could've been substituted for actual characters that have been in the mainline titles(koopalings instead of koopa kids, baby bowser instead of mini bowser, Lakitu, Noki, Lumas instead of Baby Peach and Baby Daisy, etc.). I wouldnt mind more characters from the rpgs spilling into the main games and spin offs though.

Dang that's a good amount of people. Yea we all had some unrealistic crazy picks that gonna come back and bite us. I had a good laugh yesterday seeing Waluigi but I think his fans showed me he has some redeemable qualities. I still don't think he's right for Smash but I see him as more of an actual character now in a sense...slightly.

Yeah, surprised they didn't with Smooth Moves. He'd easily fit in and actually make him a bit more relevant. I dunno. It's kinda just like Daisy. She made one main appearance, and ever since... nothing. Nintendo is strange with Mario characters.

I think the Koopalings took a lot of his spotlight, but it's a bit too early to say if he's been phased out. He did appear in the Galaxy games, after all.

EDIT: Oh weird, after posting it went back to Fox and Samus again. Sakurai doesn't even like Waluigi being on his website for longer than a few hours I guess?
 
I love how, under the Waluigi picture on the main page, it says there's a new character approaching, making you think Waluigi actually joined the battle.
 
I get the feeling Ridley is playable this time. The cries for Ridley since 2008 have been acknowledged.

Sakurai isn't oblivious to the fact that he's one of the most requested characters. Same reason Little Mac is playable.

Little Mac is playable because he recently got a new game and it's a Nintendo franchise that deserved to be repped. Ridley won't be playable because he's too big.
 
I have a feeling Sakurai's aware Ridley is a highly-requested character from the west, just that it's a matter of whether he sees it worthwhile to spend extra dev time getting such a complicated character design-wise to 'work' in Smash Bros.

To a lesser extent I guess there's the 'Sakurai Japan don't give no shits 'bout Metroid' aspect, but after Little Mac's inclusion was obviously geared more to the western fanbase I don't know how big if at all an issue that'll be.

If I were making a Smash Bros. game I would revel in the ability to make a bunch of people very happy by putting in their favorite characters. I feel like Sakurai would be the same way - if he can include a fan-favorite without too much trouble, he will.

He just has the draw the line due to roster limitations and limitations in what sorts of characters make sense in his eyes. Villager is a perfect example - he knew Animal Crossing players would be happy with a rep, but he couldn't think of a way to incorporate him in Brawl so he did everything but a rep for AC. Now he thought of a way to include him and did.

I just thought he would be hilarious because of how purely awful he is. It's not just that he's an awful character, but there's something so pure about his awfulness that it loops right back to being amazing. Just like Tommy Wiseau.

On a side note, I love your avatar. Rui needs to be appreciated more.

Would they have the time to compile separate Pokemon models considering that Brawl had 31 unique Pokeball models?

At E3 for XY, they revealed that they basically had HD models of all the Pokemon created, and used those to make the XY ones. Like they showed a very nice model of Noivern.

They're probably just the XY models in higher resolution. There was a panel or somesuch where Game Freak showed how they were making the models and they started by making them really high-res so they'd be easy to scale.

Dedenne looks like it has an interesting attack, though I'm not fond of the Pokemon itself.
