Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

I dont think it' dead just not a success

Well, could be classified as both.

Almost no developers want in on it, and with support dropping like flies, it's fair to say "dead", though obviously their own 1st party titles will suffice for them, so you could also say not successful.

I'm still down for dead, though.

Big developers don't want to suppose it. I feel it's a bit unfair on the smaller companies to be consider a non entity. We really should move on from such a narrow minded outlook. It's on a similar level to "mature games for mature gamers" way of thinking and how it is holding the industry back.

Stop it with the Ridley pics. We need more Daisy

I don't think there will ever be an opportunity to use this gif in any meaningful application, so here

Man anyone else excited to try out Bowser?

Bowser? I was never too into the tank characters. Except Ganon in Melee I guess. I usually prefer the faster-but-still-kinda-powerful characters, Marth and Falco. It will be interesting to see how the speed affects gameplay, what with SSB4 being between Melee and Brawl in speed, supposedly.

Anyone else think Vaati should get in? He's been in three Zelda games, twice as the chief antagonist. Most supporting characters either play a smaller role or else don't appear in that many games.

Playing some more Melee...

I miss Young Link. Toon Link essentially replaced him but in no way are they the same character.

I'm not so much a fan of Toon Link and his playstyle, but Young Link I find a lot of fun to play. I think Project M did a pretty nice take on Toons, though.

Can you preorder this from gamestop yet? Either version? Just won a 100 dollar giftcard from there and might as well use it.

He'd have a better shot if he appeared in any of the main 3D console Zelda games, but he's far too minor a character to be playable. The few villains we do have are major recurring characters whose histories span decades (Bowser, Dedede, Ganon) -- Vaati doesn't quite measure up. I'm not against adding new villains in general, but I just don't think there are any bad guys left warranting playability outside of maybe Ridley and K. Rool.

You know what I really want that's not going to happen? A special edition that includes both games, a soundtrack and an artbook. /drool

Any sort of "ultimate Smash 4 pack" with both games would be right up my alley... I'm buying both of them Day One anyways, so any sort of perk would be nice.

(If there isn't a package deal I'll probably just go digital.)

This post makes me wish for some sort of big pre-order package with an art book, soundtrack, and an OVA series like Sakurai did for Kid Icarus Uprising along with both versions of the game.

I would drop some serious coin in an instant for it.

Eh? I mean, sure, they play differently. But the play style of Toon and and Y.Link are pretty much the same. Hit and run, projectile keep away. I find them both to be little booger heads.

I've been playing TF all day

and for the love of fuck sakurai better not give DK his voice from this game

it's horrible

Tropical Freeze is fine. He actually has personality.

In any case it's better than the hellish squeals he's had in thr last few Smash Bros.

He seems like he sounds pretty good in the game... It can't possibly be as bad as his Mario Kart Wii/7 voice. Just terrible. I'd take his Tropical Freeze voice over generic gorilla sounds any day. But above all else, I'm really hoping that Bowser will actually use his voice from the Mario games instead of Godzilla's. It just comes off as lazy.

Donkey Kong has the same VA in Mario Kart Wii/7 and Tropical Freeze.

Basically, I believe that Young Link is just a more versatile character that is capable of being played offensively and defensively, and you can see the differences in both Axe and Armada's Young Link (if you enjoy Melee tournaments).

What really helps Young Link's offensive capabilites are not only Melee's physics, but the fact that Young Link technically falls considerably faster and has greater mobility, giving far faster approaches. Young Link's down aerial can be controlled horizontally and doesn't butcher his aerial speed, making it a viable finish to a combo. He's actually just an all around stronger character with more finishers and set-ups than Toon Link (Toon Link's lack of KO moves usually forces a defensive, projectile heavy playstyle... until they see it's time to up-smash).

But what really sets them apart for me, is...

The glorious Hylian Kick! This blessing does everything! It lasts forever, it's decently powerful, can string combos and is capable of destroying characters with bad/telegraphed recoveries. Similar to Sheik, I love chasing characters deep off-stage with one of these. It's a great offensive and defensive move, and I wish Toon Link had it.

Oh yeah, and because of Melee's physics, Young Link's recoveries are pure awesome when you get creative with tethers, bombs and wall jumps.

If Wolf is in the game, he better get a new Final Smash move.

Wolfs new Final Smash is the Ground Master! This super awesome tank is a Star Wolf Speciality! It can even hover off the ground and is totally different from the Land Master!

Project M has you covered.

Looks pretty goofy with Toon Link's traditionally stubby legs extending out like that, but I guess it's no different than all the stretchy limbs we're seeing in Smash 4?

Just for the hell of it, here are my five most wanted newcomers (after Villager, Mega Man, and Little Mac):

Realistically, only Pac-Man, Dixie, and maybe Toon Zelda are plausible.

I still think Toon Zelda is more likely to be playable character out of all Zelda Characters due to the history that she got cut in Brawl.

So do I, but I'm just worried that there might not be a Zelda newcomer at all. Being a major series doesn't always guarantee a new character (see Mario in Brawl).

If Wolf is in the game, he better get a new Final Smash move.

I think I've said this before, but I'd like to see one of the Star Fox characters use their Arwing and just pass by the stage once or twice and shoot lasers/drop bombs just for variety purposes.

These are good. I'm down for all of them. I'm only down with T. Zelda if she comes with Tetra though, otherwise, we don't need Toon Zelda.

Even though I genuinely believe Toon Sheik was planned for Brawl and not Tetra (the files wouldn't be called "Toon Sheik" for no reason), I don't necessarily think eight-year-old plans are indicative of what Sakurai has in store for the new game. Tetra had a prominent role in Phantom Hourglass, which was released after the Brawl cutoff, and I think that could be enough for Sakurai to ditch Toon Sheik and come up with a Tetra move set. It's not terribly hard to do, either -- the cannon and catapult make for easy special moves.

Plusle + Minun could make sense... they were in Brawl data and it would be good to advertise
